Now that his caretaker role has ended for Leon Corstens, does anyone know what his plans are?

I think he was looking at renting his own stables in Flemington but I heard that a while ago...

Surely Aquanita is not taking him back on!! Left there after a dismal effort, has been suffering depression, is renowned for treatment of staff (hence huge turn overs) and walking out of Malua. Maybe he can take over Vasil's team.

The remarkable life of Mary Sadler ended on Friday morning with her son John confirming her death at the age of 110.

Sadler said his mother died peacefully on Friday morning.

"She turned 110 on the 12th of January and she'd had really good health up until then but a few months ago she had a bad fall and been struggling ever since," Sadler said.

"It got to the stage that it's a happy release and over the next week or so we can celebrate the great life she had," the Caulfield trainer said.

Not trying to kick up a hornet's nest. I've never met the bloke.

Just noting the series of 0s in the G1 and G2 columns and the avg $400k purchase price.

I think the guy from Avenue Bloodstock who bought the 3 big bangers with Sadler is one of Hong Kong's biggest owners. Maybe Sadler might only get the honour of pre training/preparing those ones for HK.

Even so, he still got 4 other good ones on his own up at the MM's. He certainly looks the odd man out in the Top 10 buyers list at No.7.

Fairly sure he has trained for some heavy hitting HK owners for a few years.
Gets all the hard yards done, and if good enough, they are taken to HK to race.

Satorial Splendor to face first-up test

Trainer John Sadler is waiting for the day Group Three-winning colt Sartorial Splendor puts it all together in a race.

He hopes that might be during the three-year-old's upcoming preparation, which is scheduled to begin in Saturday's Listed Kensington Stakes (1000m) at Flemington.

Sartorial Splendor has two wins from seven starts, highlighted by the Group Three Red Anchor Stakes at The Valley last spring.

He is one of two three-year-old colts who will take on older horses in the Kensington.

Last year's Silver Slipper winner Time To Reign is the other three-year-old in the field, while Group One winner Microphone is being saved to run in the Australia Stakes on Friday week.

"It will be really interesting to see how he shapes up this time in," Sadler said.

"Obviously we're hoping like mad he has taken the next step. If he has he's going to be extremely competitive. We feel he has, but we don't know he has.

"Saturday is a really interesting race for him."

After Sartorial Splendor won the Red Anchor on October 26, Sadler backed him up a week later in the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) but he was a well-beaten ninth on a soft track.

"I don't think he was suited to the wet track but he was beaten a long way," Sadler said.

"Perhaps you just put a pen through that and we might have been kidding ourselves running in a race like that.

"But I've always said he's the best galloper I've trained, not the best horse. He's far from the best horse I've trained at this stage.

"When he can get it all together maybe we'll see something special.

"It's what he's able to do on the (training) track on his own, I've seen that he's the best galloper I've had but you don't have to look at too many of his runs to see that he gets it all wrong (in his races)."

All Too Royal heads the weights with 58.5kg and was favourite in an early market on Wednesday at $2.90.

Sartorial Splendor, who carries 54kg, was $6.50 and Sadler will use the race as a guide to the colt's targets.

"For the rating he's got (78) he doesn't come in that well at the weights and he's running in this race because there was nothing available for three-year-olds over 1000 metres," Sadler said.

"This is the race we had to throw him into but in saying that I'm happy to be running."

When John Sadler moves to his Pakenham stable complex in the coming weeks, he will do so with a new training partner after it was announced son Tom is set to join his father as co-trainer.

Tom Sadler, 26, rode over 230 career winners on both the flat and over the jumps in his career in the saddle and is now set to form a new era for the stable, who are preparing to depart their Caulfield base.

“I couldn’t be more excited to have Tom join me,” John Sadler said in a statement.

“He has been incredibly fortunate to learn from Australia’s leading stables particularly with his full-time roles with both Gai Waterhouse and Danny O’Brien and these experiences, along with his riding accomplishments, will hold him in good stead for a future training career.”

Sadler, a multiple Group 1 winning trainer, confessed however he would remain as hands-on as ever.

“But I’m not going anywhere,” the media release professed.

“I will be as hands-on as ever as continue to work diligently in building a consistently successful stable for our clients.”

Tom Sadler departs his role at Danny O’Brien’s stable where he has spent the past two years to take on the exciting opportunity.

“My professional experiences in working full time for Gai has provided me invaluable knowledge in training quality two-year-olds and my time as a jumps jockey allowed me a firsthand understanding of what’s required of staying and endurance horses,” Tom Sadler said.

“The learning opportunities Danny provided me were invaluable, especially his expertise in training young horses and his success with stayers is right up there with the very best.”

The training partnership is set to be formalised by Racing Victoria with the duo to train under the banner of Sadler Racing.

One of the stables most promising gallopers Starry Legend is expected to step out at Caulfield on Saturday.

John Sadler, one of the nicest buggers you'd meet, Tom should do well working with a decent talented bloke like John, just hope he doesn't go to fat like so many trainers sons, I doubt it, with John's work ethic that wont happen and Tom it seems is a chip off the old block.....good luck fellas, may you train plenty of winners.
