    Posted: 19 Mar 2008 at 9:12pm

Russell Cameron, who left Australia in 2003 to train in Macau & has spent the last 3 years training in New Zealand in partnership with Gareth McRae, has been granted a licence to operate again in Victoria. Cameron, 49, confirmed he will be based at Riverend Park on the outskirts of Melbourne, but also retain his NZ partnership with McRae at Pukekohe. Cameron explained: "It's come about through one of my clients going into a joint venture with the owner of Riverend Park." (Mar 19)

The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

have a look at what he had in the first race, where it came from to travel in that race , and the form it had leading into that first race,(and what assistance as a red red hot fave it gave to holding up Sporting Hero's price)  then have a look at its "bad luck" out of the barriers...oh an ps i never made any mention of sportings second race

That's great, was always a fan of Russell.
Istidaad kicking strongly, he's 2 lengths clear, Crawl gets out from a well back and old Mustard is grinding home... Hang on, Treasury Notes gets out from the back and she'll blouse them all!

Yeah I used to love backing Russell's in races they had been set for.

And he is a trainer who is happy to go for the small chocolates and live off the punt, welcome back sir Thumbs%20Up Thumbs%20Up

As for Brian Jenkins I think some horses and jockeys have been lucky to win Melbourne Cups but I also think Brian Jenkins goes into that category.

Just mentioned on racing.com that Russell passed away this morning aged 61. He had been fighting dementia for a couple of years.

Hell of a nice guy and could train , had one with him early 2000’s and was a straight shooter , knew when to bet .
The only problem with backing winners ? You never have enough on....

Farewell to a true gentleman. Russell was a hell of a good bloke, gave us our first fully owned city winner when Kiriwake saluted at 80/1 one day :) Always good for a spare box when we traveled one from interstate to run in SA. Heaps of fun when we visited for the yearling sales. A really lovely man. RIP Russell, I am glad your suffering is over. xxx

Spot on VSP, I knew Russell from his days when they used to bring horses over to MEL and stay at Brian Ralphs, Ted was a great Dad and mentor to Russell and Russ was one trainers son that inherited the ability gene, just a lovely friendly, genuine nice man.......Torment is over, fly high Russ.
