interesting move by aidan obrien to back up magic wand in the mackinnon. Has there ever been a precedent for a horse to run over 2 miles and then back up 4 days later over a mile and quarter?

Considering the Mackinnon has usually been run before the cup, no, there has been no precedent, with no mare running in the Matriarch, which was usually the main 2000m race on this race day.

However a horse like Zipping, who won at 2400m, would give you good guide to whether she can win or not, especially as she is more suited to 2000m.

Regarding a horse dropping back sharply in distance & winning (at an elite level) was Super Impose in the autumn of 1991.

He ran last in the Tancred Stks over 2400m & then a week later won the Doncaster over 1600m. What an awesome warrior he was!

But as for 3200m back to 2000m, I can’t think of any examples.

I'd say Tulloch in the Autumn of /58 would go very close but not quite, Sat 1-3/4 mile , Monday back to 1 mile beating good horse and Doncaster winner Grenoble, following sat.up to 1 1/2 mile , phenomenal horse, won all three easily.

I’m surprised starcaster didn’t choke down. Currie wouldn’t know what initiative was if it bit him on the backside.

Both started favourite and got rolled, A o H every chance , I'll give her a rest so she can win one lol, S. A. inside barrier was of no help as he tried to jump the fence soon after turning for home , taped on both front joints and big in condition , he'll keep but needs " making"imo.

Great to see Halvorsen win the last for Robbie Griffithswho most would know had serious surgery about two months back and is still recovering.

A real fillip for him and the stable after struggling just a tad in recent months. Star

Apparently Steve Baster and trainer Glen Thornton got into a bit of strife in the mounting yard after the last race....very interesting
