The sad thing is he'll probably 'do a Watto' with a classic desd rubber performance, look decent against Pakistan at home and we're stuck with him again. |

Test bowling average of 44, and probably far higher against elite nations.

Mitch Marsh will come good.
He is a better player than his figures suggest. |

Always had a suspicion that djebel and jamal were indeed one and the same.

Maybe Marsh could be converted into a T Alderman type swing bolwer if he squared up his delivery stride a little and uses the different widths at the popping crease , he just doesn't use angles as much as he could IMHO imperative if one doesn't have sheer pace to deceive , he has it mix it up a little if he is to be in any way a asset to this side, I will give him one more go. These conditions and the Duke ball should suit his action.

This happened ...
Three Injured After Ashes Victory Inspires Group Of City Workers To Have A Net SessionSome of the lesser complaints today from a group of Old City District workers have been that they feel ‘stiffer than a boogie board’ and ‘tighter than tetanus’. The more serious ones come from three of their mates who didn’t make it into work today. Inspired by the impending victory in last night’s Fourth Ashes Test, a group of friends threw caution to the wind and met up at the nets in Machattie Park down the French Quarter yesterday afternoon. Without even so much as a warm-up cigarette, one of the men padded up (sans box) while the others ran in and bowled as fast as they could at him. Balls were flying everywhere. Some short, some fuller than a bloke trying to throw a rock into a tree to dislodge a football. From side to side, many bounced twice. Some none at all. A couple clanged against the stumps and others were carted up and out of the net. One even shot back at the bowlers, forcing them to duck and scream when they knew they should be trying to catch it. Until the first injury, everything was fine. Express pace bowler Max Freenow, an insurance adjuster at Allianz Betoota, almost immediately tore his stone-cold pectoral tendon and had to start bowling spin. A short time after that, another quick bowler hit the batsman on the sternum with a full toss, forcing him to retired hurt. And in the fading light, with the seriousness of their injuries starting to dawn on them, they decided to call it a day. But with the final ball of the session, Tim Reston, a When asked by our reporter this afternoon if they regretted anything, the group said no and were actively planning their next net session. More to come. |

Despite a positive enough scorecard on Day 1 believe it was a massive error to put the Poms in.
Though only time will tell.

WHY were those openers chosen yet again???
At least we should have tried out Khawaja. In truth, Lyon would have been a (much) better option for opening.

Every OZ innings is the same.... Openers - bunnies Smith & (sub) - respectable score Then more bunnies show up. And then tail wags a little bit.

I would have ditched an opener (better if both gone) and got Starc in.
A useful all rounder = better batting performance than we were getting up top. A fresher bowler AND a good chance of cleaning up the British tail.

According to Langer, Marsh was picked for his bowling. OUR BOWLING'S NOT THE PROBLEM, you spanner. Marsh did well with the ball but a 12yo with a tennis ball could trouble this English lineup. We need to select for batting- the bowling all-rounder never works.

If I was Starc I would be filthy with Langer and whatever other morons were responsible for him playing in 1 out of 5. Fairdinkum

There has to be a story behind why your best fast bowler who took 10 wickets in his previous Test match cant get a run. He took 18 wickets in his previous Ashes series in England in 2014.

As recently reported in the press we all should be reminded this Ashes series is played between the fourth and fifth best sides in the world, NZ, South Africa and India all outrank these two teams. In days gone by any Ashes series would have decided the best side in the world, but those days are over.

Supposedly the theory is that he leaks too many runs and they want other bowlers who don’t Moronic |

The prime problems re this test aren't for the most part related to Starc imo.
Rather more importantly: Kwarjar should surely have replaced one of the openers; The batting lineup without Smith is simply sub-standard; and Why the hell did Paine ask England to bat first, given we'd always be chasing or defending with the bat? |

Surely to bowl after winning the toss would not only have been the decision of Paine, the captain, but Langer, the coach, would have had as much say in that decision.

You certainly would've though so.
However media reports quote Langer as being surprised at the decision, before quickly (at least publicly) backing his captain's right to make the call.

OZ second innings begins no different t.o what the form guide indicates.... The interest here is can Smith and (sub) can stay out there and make this at least worth following

Didn't last the day... Wade got his ton but then found it difficult to regain his composure and try and bat to the end of the day. As I expected OZ just not good enough to win the series and lucky Smith played like someone possessed and with a mission, OZ could of ended up losing this series 0-3 or 0-4. Boyz need to come home and recover.

A very entertaining series between two flawed teams that were extremely evenly matched.
I enjoyed it but I am glad its over so I can get to bed at a reasonable time again. |
