Historic day today. For only the fourth time in 230 years the House of Representatives voted and passed a resolution to begin formal impeachment proceedings against a sitting President.

How’s the opinion polls going PT? The crazed Trumpsters are not going to be enough to get sone of Republican senators re elected so enough may turn on Trump to actually get rid of him for good if public opinion is strong enough against him. I don’t think Trump will resign like Nixon.

Opinion polls strongly support impeachment Baguette, around 54% and 49% support impeachment and removal. At this stage Nixon was around 38% and Clinton 35%, so Trump is winning bigly on the impeachment support race. Opinion will determine where it goes. They need Republicans to put Trump's interest behind them to convict, and for personal interest through public support for Republicans to turn on him. Today he has Republicans in tight states at the White House and he is giving them cash payments to not convict him(Politico). Incredible how corrupt the system is. I still think censure is a better option but the evidence is so startling that conviction is a real option when public testimony starts in a few weeks. That is what turned them against Nixon, overwhelming evidence of criminality that Republicans could not defend. This current crop of Republicans is much worse than they were in the 70's though.

Yes back then there was still the ethos of what’s good for the country being important. Not so much now. I think once the public hear the various witnesses the polls in favour of impeachment will only get wider. I think it’s fascinating to try and work out what Trump will do. Take them all with him would seem the most likely at the moment.

I think the first actions will be to throw Rudy, Sondland and Perry under the bus and contain the damage...Sondland and Perry particularly. Rudy has exposure in many counts and countries. The thing that may save him is that he is central to everything illegal that has gone on involving Flynn, Manafort, the Turks and their Russian oligarch friends. He is really dirty and could bring down a lot with him.

You really don’t believe that your 67% participation in these anti-Trump threads and your nonsensical diatribes can be characterized as thoughtful, do you? Thoughtful intelligent exercises have logical, realistic, and timely conclusions , not ad infinitum hopelessness. |

Open hearings to start next week or two Whale. Even Trumpkins who are starting to drop off the Orange Traitor will be shocked at what comes out. My tip is that Mr Mueller will be the star of the show. All the stuff coming out from the closed door testimony has echoes of his work. |

Sounds like Mueller held back the best stuff for when it does the most damage.
Or maybe the shackles are off now that impeachment hearing have started and he feels he can let it all out

He was shut down by the corrupt Barr but not before he farmed out a lot of investigations to ther jurisdictions. Barr has tried to knock them down but all this Giuliani/Ukraine/Turkey stuff that is coming out is his work passed on to the House Intelligence Committee through the Mueller/DOJ counterintelligence investigation McCabe and others.

Don't worry Shammy, not even Diogenes and his famous lantern could find an honest Republican in Washington to convict this crook, even if he murdered someone on Fifth Avenue in front of a hundred witnesses.

The impeachment inquiry is going swimmingly. Lots of people having been deposed and one notable one revising his deposition due to criminal exposure for his lies being exposed. Almost all of the transcripts have now been released and it is not pretty, what is coming from them. Republicans are now huddled into a corner trembling and shouting that they dont want to play any more. The process moves into the next phase next week when public testimony begins. Here everyone can have the opportunity to hear directly from witnesses what they know or saw. Actual lawyers will be conducting the questioning of witnesses.

Apparently as thing gets even worse the circle the wagons around the traitor strategy is to throw Rudy, Sondland and Mulvaney under the bus. This is going to get fruity fast.

Things are moving at lightning pace, so fast now Trump hasn't been able to build any dishonest narratives and get his lies to stick with the brainwashed(Doc and stayer aside)
As the impeachment inquiry moves from the 6 committees conducting investigations and hearings into the Judiciary which presides over impeachment, some technical stuff gets dealt with this week. Constitutional lawyers and scholars will address the committee and the guidelines, definitions explanations etc will be laid out. Trump has been invited to attend or send someone in his place. He has till tomorrow to notify and till the end of the week to advise Jerry whether he will be defending himself or not. Democrats Give Trump a Deadline for Deciding if He Wants to Defend Himself During ImpeachmentThe White House has one week to decide to decide if it will participate in the impeachment inquiry hearings. In a Friday letter, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, informed Donald Trump that the committee will be considering obstruction of justice charges against the president, and that he must notify Congress by December 6 if he plans to mount a defense or call witnesses. “Please provide the committee with notice of whether your counsel intends to participate, specifying which of the privileges your counsel seeks to exercise,” Nadler wrote. The letter comes after two weeks of explosive impeachment hearings in the House which included testimony from Bill Taylor, Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, Fiona Hill, and Gordon Sondland. The House moved to begin impeachment proceedings against the president after news broke that Trump asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter in exchange for foreign aid. dDespite confessing to the quid pro quo, Trump has continued to refer to the hearings as a “hoax” or a “witch hunt.” Impeachment hearings will resume on Wednesday. more, |

If it's all a big hoax then he should join the party and mount a credible defence with credible witnesses. Can't be worse than the dogs breakfast his defence has been so far

The final response will be next November maxie. If he makes a mockery of this it will only add to the 50%of Americans who want him impeached and also removed from office.

Next November...yes.
The Senate trial is political and Republicans will likely rally around him and acquit him, but McConnell has to make the political calculation of how many Senators and possibly control of the Senate he is prepared to lose with an unpopular decision. That makes it not such a certainty.

Senator Harris will be able to commit all of her energy to the Senate trial should she leave the Presidential race. Still leaves 17 capable candidates and one Russian asset if she withdraws.
