Hope Single Gaze comes through OK. They keep talking about Kathy but no report from trainer or anything to say how the filly is.

Here is a question for the market buffs.
If Preferment is at the odds of $5.50, why is Awesome rock was assessed @ $34, when in their prior meeting carrying the same weight, Preferment won on a Protest?? This is just for my own learning. Will appreciate any replies. Thanks PMT I'm on United states |

Maybe because he hasn't started for a month.
Maybe because he's a non-winner/professional place-getter. Maybe because the bookies got it wrong. Time'll tell. ps think this might be the wrong thread for the question, but have done the same more than once.

Gee she was lucky, though it probably doesn't feel that way right now poor thing. That was a nasty fall with the horse rolling over her twice.
So gad the mare is OK as well. |

Yeah a fall like that can end up with a much worse outcome. Good to hear her injuries aren't more serious. |

Good to hear she will be ok but of those that want to whinge about about a jockey when the result doesn't go their way just spend a moment to think about this..there's more to racing than winning and when 1000 lb of horse falls on a jockey no punter who lost a few bucks can imagine the anguish and pain of the jockey and their family.

Heard today that she does NOT have a broken collarbone or any other broken bones. Only issue is a punctured lung.

Yeah, I heard them say she could be back withing 3 weeks. No broken bones but a punctured lung.
Very lucky girl, after the horse basically rolled on her, from what I could see. Wonder how much the vest helped ?

Good morning! I just want to let everyone know I'm overwhelmed by your support and kind words!! So a quick update is that I'm still in hospital at this stage with a drain in to clear the last bit of air and blood from my collapsed lung. Hopefully it comes out today as long as my lung is fully inflated. Waiting to see Dr David Duckworth when I'm cleared from here to check on my right shoulder. Don't think there are any obvious breaks but possible tissue damage.

KATHY O'HARA - was involved in a fall on the home turn during the Australian Oaks at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 9th April 2016, when aboard Single Gaze. Racing NSW's Dr David Duckworth reported Kathy punctured her lung which has been treated with a tube. Kathy also has fractured her collarbone that probably won't require surgery.
UPDATE (4:30pm) Thursday 14th April: Dr David Duckworth has advised that Kathy sustained an injury to her Sternoclavicular Joint which requires corrective surgery. Dr Duckworth will perform the operation tonight. UPDATE (8am) Friday 15th April: Dr Duckworth has advised Kathy's operation went well. He had to reduce and reconstruct her sternoclavicular joint dislocation. She will be in a sling for 4 weeks and out from racing for 8 to 12 weeks. |

She rides very well , she rode a Group1 winner over the carnival and a 4th in the Doncaster on a horse who was more than a 100 to 1 . I wonder how many girls have ridden in the Doncaster .
