Yet England’s director of cricket Ashley Giles said that he was not bothered by the issue and did not believe an extra run was crucial to the outcome.

“Not really,” he said, per the BBC.

“You could argue the last ball that (Trent) Boult bowled was a full toss on leg stump and if Stokes hadn't just been looking for two, he probably would've banged it out of the ground anyway.

“We are world champions, we have got the trophy and we intend to keep it.”

Ashley Giles is a right royal lollipop!

The other thing with wickets not being counted, is why have wickets at all.

Just have Warner and Finch bat for the fifty overs and see how much they score, bowled and lbw and caught does not matter.

Then in the second fifty overs just have Kohli and Dhoni or Morgan and Stokes, or Williamson and Guptil, bat and see how mauch they can get.

That’s because the game is massively slanted in favour of the batsmen. The farcical lbw is prove of that

Agreed there, the wickets should matter.
Teams should just let their bowlers bat first and go bash and crash
New Zealand wasted 3 batsmen that didnt get to bat.
As the rule stands, as wickets dont matter, you should make sure you use all your batsmen, so send in the bowlers to bat first, one of them might smash a big innings. Even if just a handy quickfire 40 runs, better than not being used at all

Despite this, the law is, New Zealand won, the overthrows were simply meant to be 5 runs.

Hard to believe after the tied scores in the 50 overs and the super over that the title was decided by the number of sixes / fours hit in the 50 overs.

I will not bemoan England the win but I agree that NZ should have won and it has nothing to do with the overthrows.

If you have a cricket score there are wickets and runs. So why we use only the runs as a winning total. The English were bowled out in their fifty overs, but New Zealand had two less wickets which tells me that they were the better team for the match, so no power over or countback should have been required.

But I guess I do not know what I talking about!

New Zealand won the World Cup.
The umpires made the wrong call on the overthrows.
England was meant to be given just 5 runs, not 6.
The batsmen hadnt crossed yet. prior to fielder releasing ball.
Umpires were completely wrong.
The rule is in black and white as a Law.

Its New Zealands World Cup.

There is a theory that it's a bat first tournament, so I guess that's why.

I heard the commentators saying both sides wanted to bat first. I won’t pretend to a cricket expert but I’d have to ask why? Surely they would have had a fair idea the ball was going to do a fair bit?
