This suggestion by a reader was in this morning's press
"PERHAPS an increase in unemployment benefits for those who sign up to the Newstart cashless card concept, but no increase for those who opt to remain receiving dollars into their bank account, might be a better idea? I believe it has a great deal of merit.

I would be surprised if any of the jobs Newstart recipients claim they applied for, unsuitable or not, are ever checked. That would take staff.

Tell me Doc, how much you reckon these “bludgers”have to spend each fortnight after they’ve paid their rent & groceries?
You happy to give them another $75 a week if they get it on this card? Didn’t think so.... |

Speaking of bludgers, no parliament again this week. They have only sat about 6 weeks all year.

What's the point - "Elbow" just bought a new hat, and he won't listen.

Happy for the legitimate ones to get that rusty ... so long as we send the others back where they came from. The biggest problem is that we spend more money on Public Servants whose job is to act as interpreters and ensure that the Dole Bludgers understand every cent of welfare that they are entitled to, and how to avoid their "New Start" obligations ...

pt, for someone who is so much for change you are VERY out of step as the majority would wear the BASEBALL type caps.
I wager even YOU were them. An akubra looks good, but it does make Albo look like old farmer Joe. And Scomo more of the people. You are coming across as DESPERATE.

Unfortunately for you pt, wearing a cap makes the Prime Minster more relatable, identifiable to the people.

I wore a baseball cap for two summers - I knew it was stupid as a method of sun protection but it was handier than a hat - and got skin cancer on one of my ears.

It won't matter what "Elbow" puts on his little round head, how straight his teeth are or if he loses the specs ... he will still look like "Bill Shorten Lite".

He’s certainly acting like Bill Shortern lite atm.

Labor's biggest problem is that they keep getting close, but all that means is that they retain all of the "usual suspects" who were there during the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd/Shorten debacle. They would have been better off if there had been a Liberal Landslide, and they could have cleaned out all of the deadwood.
They are like a bottom of the table football team - they celebrate the close losses, think that they can keep the same roster, recruit the odd high profile loser (KKQuota), keep the same culture and game plan, and hope that things will change ...

Is this part of the reason for the AFP raids? Rogue public servants?
Public servant loses free speech High Court case over tweets criticising government's asylum seeker policyUpdated 16 minutes ago A former public servant at the centre of a landmark free speech case has lost her High Court fight after it was found tweets she sent critical of the Federal Government breached the public service code of conduct. Michaela Banerji argued she had been unlawfully fired in 2013, from what was then the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. She had operated the Twitter profile LaLegale, which frequently posted opinions critical of the Australian Government, its immigration policies, and its treatment of immigration detainees. Ms Banerji was sacked from her role for breaching the Australian Public Service (APS) Code of Conduct, after an internal investigation linked her to the Twitter account. She took her case to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, which found her sacking had impeded her implied right to freedom of political communication. But today the High Court unanimously ruled that was not the case, because APS rules were consistent with the Constitution requiring an apolitical public service. More to come.https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-08-07/high-court-free-speech-public-service--banerji-decision/11377990 |

So her govt workplace contract over-rides her free speech rights?
Good thing Christians are paying Izzy's legal bills.

After one tweet her boss Sandi Logan tweeted back:
"Ms Bannerji retweeted a response from another Twitter user who said:
It was Mr Logan who raised concerns Ms Bannerji was using the LaLegale Twitter handle, and that she was placing the department "at considerable reputational risk." |

Sandi has a point. He is no friend of this govt or what it has done in the name of his old department, but he is an institutionalist and is right in saying she should have gone through channels instead of venting on social media.
