Do you even know what is required to access the Mahogany Room at Crown as an interstate/overseas player? Surprisingly little. I’d be the lowest of low rollers in there I’m sure.

Society need more reveals. How can you criticize BJ, at least he is looking after dependents, and those who say he brought it on himself with divorcing, well hello, that happens quite a bit nowadays.
This is the sort of reveal i'm talking about. This is the REAL haves and have nots.

'I'm A Female FIFO Worker On 6 Figures And I Own 1.5 Houses'

Meet the woman with a six figure salary, looming debt, and an addiction to essential oils. In our new How We Spend It series of (anonymous) audits we're diving into the way women earn, save, waste and spend our money.

But also the reality of debt. Because beyond what we splurge on and share – like wardrobe investments and ‘gram-worthy travel – we’re rarely honest about our bank balance reality with ourselves, let alone with one another. So let’s talk money.

The Basics

Occupation: Maintenance Supervisor

Industry: Mining

Age: 33

Location: Western Australia

Salary: $117,000 (plus a 10% bonus, depending on how the business performs)Want to peek inside a woman's purse? Read about the 21-year-old who lives alone with water views or the 27-year-old with a chronic health problem and a 6-figure pay.

Payslip: $6440 per month (after tax)

Rental Income: $15,730 per annum

HECS: N/A

Super: $156,000 ($710 per month)

Debt: A lot! Over $600,000 (my rental property mortgage, plus half of the mortgage for the property I share with my partner)

Savings: $15,000

The Monthly Expenses

Mortgages: $2,900 ($1700 for rental and $1200 for half of main residence):

Insurances: $350 (car, rental property, health, and half of the house)

Living amenities: $72.50 (which is half) every six weeks for a replacement gas bottle. We are on rainwater and have solar panels, so no other expenses for these.

Phone: $120

Internet: $75 (half of the total bill)

Netflix: $18

Spotify: $24 (for two accounts)

Savings: I don’t have a set amount I aim to save. I have my pay split automatically. I pretend that my rental property is not earning an income, so the total amount needed to cover all expenses goes into that account, sort of like forced savings.

Self-care: On my essential oils addiction I spend about $50 a month. I don’t go to the hairdresser or beautician - I do it all myself. I sit in my infrared sauna and listen to music a few times while I’m home on break, or do a face mask and have a cup of tea.

Credit card: I have a limit of $7500 and pay my balance every month. I would usually only use my credit card for big purchases, so that I can hold my savings in the bank for a bit longer.

Pets: I pay approx $100 (feeding and worming two dogs, then feeding about ten chooks, two ducks, three geese and three quails).

MONTHLY TOTAL: $3635.30https://www.whimn.com.au/live/money/im-33-a-fifo-worker-and-own-15-houses/news-story/9ea051be7c100762af62d68348e57315

"Phone: $120"

How do you manage to spend $120 a month on a phone? For $150 you can get 12 months unlimited national and international calls + 80GB data on the best network.

expanded version.

What does it mean to think philosophically?

5 Answers
Sampurna Dhar
Sampurna Dhar, former Assistant Software Engineer Trainee at Tata Consultancy Services

To think philosophically means, in the vaguest of senses, to introspect about life in general, humanity, creation, and other abstract puzzling topics present in today’s world. Some say the grander and more abstract the topic, the better the wheels of philosophy begin to turn. But thinking philosophically is not the same as thinking logically or thinking emotionally, though it involves both of them. The questions thought by philosophers have equal measures of passionate curiosity and analytical thinking. But it is not mandatory for a person to receive formal education in philosophy to be able to think or speak philosophically. Thinking philosophically usually comes naturally- if you find yourself pondering about questions bigger than your surroundings or your day-to-day activities, then at some level you are using philosophical logic to think. Don’t forget the fine line between thinking philosophically and overthinking about something. People who overthink obsess over the same problem in the same perspective with the same limited options. People who think philosophically go to the depth of the problem to understand it then find alternate perspectives for the problem and thus increase their chances of finding one or many solutions.
