When they try to land on all 4s vs. front then hind, after every jump, as did Goodwood Zodiac, you know they're sore over the back &/or sacroiliac He did well to stay on his feet & fight on for 4th.

Goodwood Zodiac should’ve been pulled up.
Was an awful watch, couldn’t lift his legs at the jumps at the bottom of the hill. He needs a decent spell. |

I saw Sir Lopez in the yard on Friday night and thought gee thats a fit looking horse, then I saw the trainer... certainly knows how to train a stayer!

Joshua Reynolds is very one paced.
4000m hurdles will be his go. |

There’s a 4000m hurdle at Ballarat on GN Steeple day in August. But kudos to Brett Charry with Mr Coyne. I think he’s only got 2 horses in his stable, this guy and the stable stalwart in Grassini. |

If he was allowed to stride today he probably jumps a heck of a lot better and has that race won a long way from home.
Instead it was turned into a relative sprint home asking both winner and runner up to jump the last 2 poorly despite what Ric likes to call. |

Track looked in great shape for a June day! Some pretty good racing. Maybe Casterton should be holding a few more meetings during the winter?

Agree, it looks like a great old English jumps track. Plodding around in the mud.

Symon Wilde is looking at sending his star jumper Gold Medals to the US
$400,000 steeplechase at Far Hills, New Jersey on Oct 21. “The jumps over in the US would suit him because they are in between our hurdles and steeples.” Quarantine conditions are favourable and would allow for him to travel back in time to be prepared for next years Annual. |

Great to see two-time G1 winner in Gallante get back into the winners circle.
Cruised home to win the Awapuni Hurdles 2900m. Would be great to see Rogie come back over the Tasman for some of the Australian feature hurdle races in the next few months. Although the NZ Grand National & Great Northern Hurdles are more likely targets this season. |

I think we might have just seen Patrick Payne’s next Grand Annual horse win the maiden Steeplechase today - Sweet Lullaby. Whether that’s 2020 or 2021, not sure as she’s only currently a 4yo.
Part owned by form analysts Deane Lester & Mark Hunter. Great stamina pedigree too - by Monaco Consul from a dam line featuring Don Eduardo, Touching Wood & Fairs Fair. |

Thanks SD. Pays to watch the horses in the mounting yard. Whilst Speedy Jax was an abject failure, it was nice to see local jumps stalwart in Barry Brook win with Searaven.
As for my other tip in Euroman......an amazing job my Jarrod Lynch to stay aboard. Really showed the benefits of the new flexible plastic running rails. And a fantastic finish between Double Bluff & Andrea Mantegna. And 150/1 shot ran the race of his life for 3rd place. |

Big meeting at Hastings NZ today with 5 jumps races including the Hawkes Bay Hurdle over 3100m & Steeplechase 4800m.
We get to see 2016 Sydney Cup winner GALLANTE in the Hurdle. The Steeplechase field is only a field of 7 but it’s interesting that all 7 runners have the blood of the mighty Sir Tristram running through their veins - with sires like Zabeel, Yamanin Vital, Zed, Colombia & Sunray all represented. I like CHOCOLATE FISH, he’s 4th up from a spell and excels at these marathon trips - no wonder looking at his breeding - by Colombia out of an Ardross mare! And locally we’ve got 3 jumps races at Casterton - he’s proving a bit costly for me in recent starts but I’ll get on POLICE CAMP again in the Steeplechase. |

I think he did gallop on riderless. Looks as though he started to get up and his stablemate Primostrat bumped into him. |

Who Says Im Ready Slow to begin. Fell at the nineteenth obstacle. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have blood present in both nostrils however it could be attributed to external trauma. Stewards notified co-trainers T & K OSullivan that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced with the result of an endoscopic examination. The incident will be referred to the Jumps Review Panel.
Primostrat Bounded at the start. Over raced in the early stages. Made a faulty jump at the fifteenth obstacle and knuckled on landing. After jumping the nineteenth obstacle was retired from the event after being checked to avoid the fallen horse. Failed to negotiate the final obstacle and was eased out of the event. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. The performance will be referred to the Jumps Review Panel. When questioned R Short explained after making a faulty jump at the fifteenth obstacle the gelding failed to respond to his riding. |

How about the flawless exhibition given by POLICE CAMP yesterday. Glad I stuck with him again at 7/2 win - thanks PC 👍. Sounds like he’s going to the Thackeray Stpl at the Bool next Sunday. Not sure he’s up to the top chasers this year, so probably prefer him back at Casterton in August. He’s only a young horse & can see him being a Grand Annual type in years to come.
And as for CHOCOLATE FISH in the Hawkes Bay Stple, well he was finishing powerfully for 2nd place & only just starting to warm up at 4800m! He’s a marathon specialist and right on track for the Great Northern Stpl over 6400m. |

AL HARAM is definately an interesting runner in that maiden hurdle at Te Aroha today. As is 2016 Herbert Power Hcp winner ASSIGN.
And I’ll be very interested to see how TALLYHO TWINKLETOE goes at his Steeplechase debut. He won the NZ Grand National hurdle way back in 2015 and was then off the scene for 3 years, before coming back last season to win another hurdle. |

From Te Akau:
Al Haram (6 g Sea the Stars – En Public) – Shaun Phelan; won a hurdle trial on 10 June at Cambridge, and sustained a big run for sixth last Saturday in the Rating 82 2100 metres at Ruakaka. Making his jumps debut in the $10,000 Maiden 3100 metres, he has an experienced rider aboard and brings the best recent form on the flat. |
