If you look into his breeding? He is not that obscure! Yes he came from obscurity!! But all the right names are in his pedigree? Have not looked at what black typing is there.

Nothing until the 3rd dam, a few placings here and there. 4th dam was a very nice horse, wakeful winner, oaks/guineas placed.

Every once in a while they get rain in that area....

Hope they have a few drinks at that watering hole!

Chicquita is hissixth day.  She was an out and outer winning the 1000 Guineas, VRC Oaks, JJ Liston S, Alister Clark S, Craiglee S, Edward Manifold S, Wakeful S etc etc)  The Chicquita line gave us Eskimo Prince (Golden Slipper, Rosehill Guineas, Hill S, Canterbury S, AJC Sires' Produce S), Mansingh (Tulloch S, NZ Derby etc), With Respect (Wakeful S) and other stakes winners like Market, Monekea, Awesome, Easter (Spring Champion S), Mr Danamite, Honey Be Quick (Silver Slipper S), Revenge.

So back in the day a great family.  It goes back to Silesia the dam of an Epsom Oaks winner who is the daughter of Galicia the dam to two greats.  Bayardo (Dewhurst S, Middle Park S, Champion S, ST Leger S, Ascot Gold Cup etc) and Lemberg (Epsom Derby, Coronation Cup, Middle Park S, Dewhurst S, etc).

Yes no ones knows Terango but he did have stakes class placing twice at G3 level. Before that we have Not a Single Doubt, Kenmare, Imperial Prince, Rego and Star Kingdom.  No failures there.  Then when you look at Terango you find Akhadan a son of Danehill from a sister to Best Western.  While his dam is by Sarajaavo a 1/2 to Copper Rocket (RN Irwin S G2).  His female line goes back to Harvest Home dam of four stakes winners including Harvest King (Australian Cup, Melbourne S, King's Plate (3), AJC St Leger etc).  While her second dam was even better.  THe imported Barley foaled Maltster (VRC & AJC Derby,VRC All-Aged S, Ascot Vale S, C B Fisher Plate and an outstanding sire).  Like the female line of Terbium his sire goes back to Anonyma dam of Lonely (Epsom Oaks).

So I'll be interesting just how far Terbium's class will carry him.  Maybe a challenger for The Autumn Sun afterall.

How wonderful to see a non commercial but carefully planned pedigree, produce such a promising horse Clap The breeder deserves every success Tongue

David Brook of Birdsville (the Brook family are icons in Western Queensland) purchased Terango at the 2004 Adelaide MM yrlg sales. It was another of David's astute purchases.Terango cost $6K , won 7 city races & twice s.p & over $200K.
David has been an avid student of pedigrees for more than 4 decades, has an encyclopaedic memory & has made many an astute purchase over the years. He decided to put Terango to stud in order to breed some sound horses with quality for Western Queensland racing. He placed Terango at Greg Lesnikowsky's property "Strathwood Park" in the Adelaide Hills
David then set about sourcing a couple of mares. He deliberately chose Serene Lass because of the female line of Grey Sovereign in Not a Single Doubt. Thus he commissioned Adrian Hancock to purchase The mare (in foal to Monaco Consul ; now races as Gracena) at Patinacks dispersal.
The price?  $2000

And now he has the Birdsville Bullet!     Easy when you know what you are doing & can look deep into pedigrees

the so-called obscure breeding of Terbium is very reminiscent of the back story of the great Redelva, another outstanding success from Sa this time by an unraced sire. The Varcoe family knew exactly what the were doing when they put his pedigree together. They were aided by one hundred years of horse knowledge.

Great write up about the connections and the success of this "obscure" steed. Isn't it warming to see a horse who broke his maiden at Strathalbyn and in 5 weeks is winning a G3 in Victoria. Gives croweaters something to cheer about even though it may be irrelevant to some here.

Not everything can come up as grand as Godolphin plans with his mares but this result is especially huge for the ones in the sport who have absolutely no chance competing against the Blue Bloods of the sport.

No not easy but it can happen and is great when it does.  I've been rattling on here for years about female lines.  The great ones can always be bought back even when it looks nothing is working.  But you also need luck on your side.  Also the family was only a couple of generations from very good and a few generations from great blood.  It just shows how quickly a $100K or $200K horse can become a $2K horse.

Nice to see this guy return to the winners circle today at Morphettville.

Not sure if there’s any suitable races in SA over the next month, but maybe the Stokes yard can find a suitable race for him at the tail end of the Vic spring carnival.

Can't believe he finally won when I backed him. Interestingly, they opted to get back in the field as opposed to racing on the speed. Maybe that's the secret?

No it's not the secret, there is no secret, the horse just picks and chooses when it tries.

Sacked.....again.

Consistent & trying hard with yet another placing today at Bendigo.

I shouldn’t complain given I was on him each way today, but geez he’s always running into a few better ones in recent starts.
