Hmm, not exactly the battle of the champions. Am I correct in saying there is one open age G1 winner there- In Her Time- Galaxy? But besides Redzel and Nature Strip I can't think of any significant no-shows.

Not sure why they've changed track with Redkirk Warrior this prep. Flemington straight fresh seems to be where he's most effective.

Looks to be a year to tackle the race with a 2yo.

The 3yo's really need to step up here to show that they are a good crop!

A flying 2yo Filly with 42.5kg but who would ride it?

Apprentice jockey Chris Caserta is wholly embracing his ‘’chance of a lifetime’’ after the 23-year-old was confirmed as the rider of two-year-old filly Jedastar in the group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes on February 16.

Under the weight-for-age conditions of the 1000-metre sprint, the veteran of just two races will carry just 44 kilograms and Caserta said on Friday he’s already had a flying start at reducing his weight from 48 kilograms.

‘’It’s 44 kilograms in 16 days but it is do-able,’’ Caserta said. ‘’I will be able to do that pretty comfortably.

‘’I have been walking around at 48 kilos at the moment and that is having a decent feed going to the races so having a decent sweat and getting down to 44 won’t be a problem and I told him (Kennewell) that I will be as strong as an ox come race day.’’

‘’I’ve always tried to stay a natural lightweight for an opportunity just like this or for a Cox Plate with those three-year-olds,’’ he said.

‘’I am obviously not going to let him (Kennewell) down or let his team down so I will be in personal lock-down and that’s it.’’

Caserta has moved to seventh on the South Australian metropolitan jockey’s title with 12 Adelaide winners already this season after moving across from Victoria on loan to trainer Tony McEvoy and he harbours hopes he can ride another 32 metropolitan winners to outride his claim.

‘’I’ve been over here with Tony for nearly five months and things are really starting to shape up over the last few months,’’ he said. ‘’I’ve been riding winners at nearly every meeting I go to and getting plenty of support from trainers over here.

‘Until then, it’s 16 days of effort and commitment to reduce his weight by almost 10 per cent.

‘’I’ll be sticking to coconut water and celery sticks,’’ he said.

Hmm, the wfa scale I just looked must be wrong or out of date. It says February 2yo @ 1000m gets 45.0 minus 2.5kg for fillies.

It's at Pureform.

Star Kingdom filly Ritmar won the Lightning as a 2yo in /59, yanks grabbed her ,
Meadow Mist colt Misting won in /58 as a 2yo, got rolled by Star Kingdom colt Skyline in the Golden Slipper ( couldn't get 6 fur. and was odds on)

Normally I'd put a line through any 2yo taking the older horses at G1. Field doesn't look that deep this year so may be a chance.

Written By looks like the one who is suited by the distance. I'd like to see him hard against the outside fence but they don't do that much anymore.

Suited by the outside draw and our combined wisdom,   We have a nice winner waiting for us come Saturday.

Just bizarre. How many cracks at a Lightning do they think they’re going to get with this horse? And with the weakest field in recent memory...

Bad news for you SC is that I’ve also had a nibble 26s at DQ. Stunning performance down the straight last day of the Flemington carnival when fresh, drawn to get a similar run here. Sure this is stronger, but it’s not that strong. For interest sake, in a race drained of interest, and quality.
