A group of us play skins for $5 a hole. Usually 4 of us of similar handicap.
Not happy with the format as quite often we find the best player is not winning the cash due to the jackpot nature of the pools

Do any of you have any other types of gambling formats we could use?

Dunno if the Doc plays for cash, but I do know he has a wicked slice.

Always ends up on the far right of the fairway.

LOLClap

You could give these side bets a run ...

Front 9, back nine, overall, nearest the pin, nearest the rough - must be on the fairway, sand saves, least putts ... golf is a good walk ruined unless you get the cash!Wink
In reference to every post in the Trump thread ... "There may have been a tiny bit of license taken there" ... Ok, Thanks for the "heads up" PT!

Pretty sure if you played in a group with my mates,we’d make sure you had 2 caddies.
One to cart your “pgf slammers”, and one that we paid, to count your shots.....

Settled on a few of these options

Stableford
It’s straight forward. With a handicap at say 30 the score card tells us which holes you get 2 shots on via the “index”. The index rates the holes on toughness. 12 hardest holes we get 2 shots.
Points are won as such.
6 eagle
4 birdie
2 par
1 bogie
0 double bogie
-1 triple or worse

So on a par 4 where you get 2 shots means this

A Score of 6 minus 2 shots handicap = a par so you get 2 points
Simple.
It can also be used for skins or overall points. Can be fun in 6 hole blokcks for skins

Skins
Everyone is committed to a $ outlay. Let’s say $5 per hole for example

If holes jackpot twice, nothing changes but if we get to a 3rd jack or a 4th an UNDESERVING player is eliminated.
After 2 jacks the player with the worst score on those 2 holes is eliminated from the jackpot
The reason being, if I shoot a 10 & a 10 and the others shoot 3& 3 making it a half I don’t deserved to have a chance at winning the triple skin. I still contribute my $5

Fives
Points awarded as rewards for good golf whilst keeping you in the hunt after an errant tee or chip shot. Can be played as a skin format as individual holes or over 3 hole brackets. Also over total points at the end of the round for ease of scoring. Player 1 may score 50 points to player 2 who scored 35 thus $15 is paid out at the end of the round on a $1 per point basis

This game actually requires players to play by the rules. That being the furthest away hits first regardless of if you are on the fairway or green. A point lost on many social golfers
1 point awarded as follows for 3 executions

First player to the green.
The player closest to the pin after all balls are on the green regardless of score.
The first player to get the ball into the cup
Lowest score for the hole gets 3 points
Worst score gets a -2

Values
Another points system played as skins, hole groupings or overall as with the fives format.

4 points on offer to be shared for lowest score per hole. If 2 players shoot a 4 then they get 2 each. If 3=1 each
Greens in regulation 2 points
1 putt = 1 point.
Fairway hit = 1 point
Bunker minus 1
3 putts minus 1

Could even play with adjustable handicaps game to game if playing stableford, eg each round winner goes in 2 shots, second in 1, 3rd sits and last out 1.
