Interesting, scratched from a G1 due to the sale but the money never came through and now is a run behind in his prep. Frustrating situation for owners.

Sounds like a light Sydney campaign, Randwick Guineas and/or Rosehill Guineas, they sound keen on the Golden Eagle.

He would not have done anything here.

At least up there they are a fair chance of going to reasonable trainer.

Not another one of your trainer has no idea claims...

Perhaps his trainer does have an idea.

Trainer Murray Baker doubts Madison County can make Saturday's Randwick Guineas a Trans Tasman stoush for the ages.

New Zealand's best three-year-old takes on Australia's premier colt The Autumn Sun in Saturday's race but co-trainer Baker isn't expecting an upset.

"I wouldn't think he'd have the class," Baker conceded on Wednesday. "He's a pretty good horse but I don't know if he's got much chance."

Madison County, who has won four of his eight starts in New Zealand, including two at Group 1 level, is one of eight rivals in Saturday's $1 million classic to tackle the hot favourite The Autumn Sun, who will start at odds on in his search for the rare spring-autumn 1600-metre Guineas double.

Baker said Madison County might find the best Australian colts tough to beat but he said that the owners had little option but to head to Sydney for the autumn after a sale to Hong Kong for the horse fell through last month.

"We've run out of races in New Zealand," Baker said. "He's a handy horse. He's won about $600,000 in eight starts in New Zealand. He's the leading three-year-old as a miler and he hasn't had the best of luck in some of his beaten runs.

"He's a Pins and they are very honest, try-hard horses."

At his most recent start, Madison County ran third in the Karaka Million 3YO race behind Long Leaf but Baker said the run was good.

"When he ran third in the $1 million race, he got a long way back in the running. He couldn't have won if he was Phar Lap, but he finished strongly.

"Hopefully he can run on into the placings and we can look to going to the Rosehill Guineas with him."

Considering his last start was a defeat to Long Leaf who has shown he is several lengths off the top 3yos this season, it'd be a bit rich to claim he could beat the best of them over here.

Well, I think he should be more worried about the fillies myself.

Wow, what a run and slaughtered by Tommy, what was he thinking, giving horses of that calibre a start like that? He dragged him back to last, with a run in transit he runs second at least.

The trainer wasn't confident before the race, probably told him to go back and be running on at the end with a view to other races. Was flying home though.

They may hope The Autumn Sun goes to the Ryder or the Ranvet and the Rosehill Guineas field falls away a bit, might be his chance, they have said he's not having many races this prep with a view to his 4yo season.

You wouldn't do that in a million dollar race Jacko, you'd want them to have every chance, especially from barrier 5, why give that up? he has the speed to be there, he wasn't given that chance.

Now into $8 second favorite for the Rosehill Guineas, he has sure shortened up since the race yesterday, I wonder if this move is fuelled by thoughts The Autumn Sun may race in the Ranvet or Ryder?

FWIW, my thinking is there is a better 3yo over there that's been slaughtered by trainer's Team Rogerson and a few jockeys.....More Wonder, should have won 3 Gr1 this season and why oh why Rogie put a claiming apprentice on in Gr1's is beyond me.......He's been thrashed so probably wont come to Oz, although Rogie told the press he was going to take on Winx?.......the best 3yo crop in years, on good tracks that is and the weather has turned over there.

Yeah was running some good races but don't know why they kept lining it up in everything, especially the Derby.

Rogersons best " horse" has always been his 9 horse floats, so reliable and consistent and by far his best earner over the years, he's a horse trader and would put a glass eye to sleep imo.

Just on this guy.

My info is that if TAS runs here they will switch to the Tulloch, and give him a similar prep to Jon Snow into the Derby.

Is there late noms for the Derby? Because he isn't currently nominated or even in the market for it.

Yes they can pay a fee for late nomination.
I think it’s about 50k

Hope the injury set back isn’t too serious.

Does he perhaps now look at the Doncaster Hcp? Or maybe something like the Frank Packer Plate & Brisbane winter?

Only a slight cut to the hip apparently.
Stewards ruled out because of the blood, which required some treatment to prevent infection.
Should be okay to race next week, unsure which race they have in mind.

Thanks SD, glad to hear it’s minor.

Suitable races next week would be the Tulloch Stks (G2 3yo 2000m) or the Royal Parma Stks (G3 open age 1500m).

There was talk of the Tulloch into the Derby a few weeks ago.
