This comment from Tony, either misquoted or sour comment ?

As we are essentially replacing Jamie Kah, we needed someone who is different to her and someone who is better than her, Vorster is the package deal,” McEvoy said.

ETA: Title needs to reflect content in order for the search to work for most of us who won't remember 'slapped down' as a reference to McEvoy or Vorster.

Could be sourness but it makes sense to want somebody better.

So who is this Vorster ?

Appears contrary to earlier comments from both persons Raymondo.

The alleged statement from McEvoy reflects extremely poorly on him imo, if simply because there was absolutely no need for it.  Maybe the immediate success of the Clarken/Kay combination played a part.

South Australian jockey ranks will be boosted with the news that Singapore-based, South African-born Barend Vorster will be moving to Australia to ride for leading trainer Tony McEvoy.

McEvoy put out an expression of interest in early November last year, after South Australia’s leading jockey Jamie Kah decided to freelance, rather than be committed to the McEvoy stable.

While receiving interest from some well-established jockeys based in Victoria, Vorster was the clear top selection for McEvoy.

"At 41 year-of-age, he brings a wealth of experience having ridden all over the world and he’s an easy sell to all of my owners," McEvoy said.

His experience and knowledge will be greatly appreciated in the South Australian jockey ranks, having ridden in over 6000 races, winning four Group 1’s, four Group 2’s and fifteen Group 3 races.

"As we are essentially replacing Jamie Kah, we needed someone who is different to her and someone who is better than her, Vorster is the package deal,” McEvoy said.

“He’s ridden all over the world, he can get down to 50kg, he’s strong with both hands, he’s just at an elite level."

Vorster will move to South Australia in the next few weeks and will be based in the Barossa full-time, alongside of McEvoy’s apprentice Chris Caserta.

Surprisingly with interest from jockeys based in Victoria and internationally, McEvoy received no requests from any South Australian-based jockeys for the position.

I thought it were common sense to want to replace someone with someone better.

Bookies framing a market as we speak....how long will he last? Tony couldn't make his Sydney stable work, who in their right mind would move to South Oz? it's on the verge of collapse, Ms Kah would cut the mustard anywhere, anywhere. I hope she gets an offer from a leading VIC/NSW stable, or up in QLD in the warm......but for Tony to say that, if he was not misquoted, doesn't say much for his character then does it? Ms Kah improved Tony's profile, not tother way.

The guy’s decisions are a bit confusing - leave NSW to concentrate on SA, complain he can’t get horses into MM although any race win anywhere would have got them in there, get rid of a jockey whom he was combining with quite successfully. Why?

Judging by the fact that McEvoy has ZERO starters at the Magic Millions this weekend, I am not surprised
Gambling has brought our family closer together. We had to move to a smaller house.

Would anybody know how many horses he has got from MM to train in the last 4 years or so. Must be a lot of owners scratching their heads to see this massive stable sitting at home on this Saturday.
Yet I am sure he will be buying up like crazy again this week.

Maybe trainers should have a licence that allows them to train a certain number of horses. The big trainers don’t train all the horses, then run franchises. Owners will get sick of paying for champagne and getting Prosecco

Whereas Prosecco can be good, you’d be upset if you paid for Dom and got Prosecco instead.

Barend Vorster has finally been given a Visa allowing him to ride for other trainers.
He was previously restricted to riding just for McEvoy

That’s incredible to be on such a restrictive visa. Never thought that possible. The otherjockeys will be losing a few rides

Jock might of made a mistake? But horse had no petrol in the tank! It ran very ordinary!! Jock can be blamed for a length or 2 but I think horse was not sent there in top form?
