Thank God for the Chinese and the Arabs, we wouldn't have much of an industry without them, long may they rule.

Bonjour, I think we would still have an industry, it would just look a lot different.

It would be interesting to debate the pros and cons of the influx of this foreign money.

What motivates the mega rich to come here and spend it acquiring properties and horses?
Is it a money making exercise for them or is it all part of a greater picture we fail to see?

Maybe it is just ego driven.

Are the consequences good for the industry overall or will their interest wane over the next decade or so?

I don't want my questions to seem xenophobic, I just want to know if this is the way of the world and we just go with the flow!!!

By Chinese I meant HK and Macau,...being facetious of course..... I wouldn't give tuppence for mainland China, they don't figure with me anyway, run by a despot, a horrible regime that still kills people without trial....animal welfare is non existent, look at the dog meat markets, then again, UAE is no better, The Sheik does what he wants, his daughter is missing and no-one gives a damn, google that one, another bunch of Despots that we suck up to...not me, but you know where I'm going......I wont fly Etihad/Qatar or the other owned by Mr Godolphin, it's my own little way of saying until you join the human race and act like it, you can go.....yourselves.    IMO of course and let the sycophants cry, or worse...it sickens me.

Forgetting your xenophobia for a moment, Yulong is owned by a Chinese businessman from mainland China.

the entire sport is corrupt from top to bottom, degenerate scumbags everywhere, picking and choosing which ones to talk about is quite funny, our own backyard is probably just as bad

UAE x I saw a report filmed on site that showed all the little boys they keep in a dismal compound to ride their racing camels đŸ« sold to them by poor families. Buggery going on by adult men. It’s supposed to have been stopped but they proved that it had not by being there secretly filming scenes they were told not to. It’s haunted me ever since, the kids were only 5 years old and a little older. They fed them as little as possible to keep them light to ride their prized camels. Yes the sheiks rule unfettered by anyone! It’s haunted me since the day I watched it, wish I had t seen it 😕
Not forgetting the many horrific acts of cruelty during their Endurance racing which the I/national community & FEI turn a blind eye to e.g. two broken front legs but still upright on its' cannons for hours 'till a vet came. That one was bought from Australia Angry
Editing as it's the "Yulong" thread.

Good on ya sister, I'm sick of the sycophants crawling up their backsides. That wonderful racing town in England, Newmarket, is so s**t scared of Godawful pulling out as it would cripple the town financially that they 'turn the other cheek' to the Arab operations ''misdemeanours'.......so what he pours gazillions into racing, why are they above the law......then again, the miscreant that runs China, he and his crony's do what they like, plundering the Pacific praying on their naivety and desperation......but hey sister, you wait, they will come on here berating us, racists we are, no we are realists.....the poor bloody Chinese that can't leave, those that do and they hunt them down, no freedom of speech, and yet these racing people pretend just how great they are.....did they ever stop to think, just one...where did the money come from?.....for all the horses........? just once.

What has all that to do with a private Chinese person, and a huge racing enthusiast, establishing a presence in the world of racing and breeding, Australia included?

Heaven forbid that he, together with Coolmore, Godolphin etc, might facilitate thousands of jobs (directly and indirectly) in Australia, and contribute many millions of dollars to the Australian economy.

Where and how do they make their money ?

Bonjour and Sister Dot ask pertinent questions.

Of course the racing industry turns a blind eye.

That's xenophobia, plain and simple Djebel: "dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries".

One can't, or at least shouldn't, condemn the individual because of the alleged actions of the State.

Do we criticize the Coolmore Magniers because the UK is the second biggest arms manufacturer in the world and enjoys huge revenues at the expense of millions of deceased persons ?  Unlikely.

Should we have condemned Robert Sangster when he entered the Australian industry because he made gambling millions at the expense of others less fortunate.

Coolmore and Godolphin have been great for racing and breeding in Australia and there's no reason Yulong will be any different.

To be a billionaire in China you would likely have to be in the know with nefarious peoples .

When people, Sister Dot, have seen evidence suggesting poor human rights we should not turn a blind eye to that.

Godolphin's boss whilst a hero to the racing industry has questions over his human rights record including his actions regarding his own daughter.

It is probably a shame it has taken the Yulong thread to get people to question things.

You can't answer the questions can you SC....you just can't, and and like all left wing, socialist types when backed into a corner you trot out the ''comparisons''....Yulong is Chinese, they are communists like it or not, they shoot people without a trial....there should be no Chinese millionaires, as the wealth is meant to be spread equally, so therefore we want to know how Yulong and Inner Mongolia got their big bucks, honestly? then show and tell......The Arabs are ruthless, google the Starwood Group Dubai, and the rape of the Aussie girl, how that went? and all the other crap that happens there. I'm lucky. with Mrs Bonjour we operated a global travel company, we got to see the machinations of the UAE, up close and personal.....I only went to Mainland China once, to Beijing, two days there to receive an industry reward, what an experience......they do shoot people there you know, and hang them, many innocent poor buggers that tried to right wrongs......don't dare use Coolmore as a comparison, it makes you look silly, think about it.

I’m not condemning or critiquing Yulong in any way. I admire Yulong and wish them well.
The thread went in a broader direction. I simply commented on a very sad situation, which, in the real world, is actually happening right now.
If u think it inappropriate, feel free to edit it out.

Sister Dot I see and agree with where you're coming from in both this precise and other broader issues.  And they certainly are two separate issues.

As for Bonjour, how about answering my questions, lest you be accused of convenient double standards:

Do we criticize the Coolmore Magniers because the UK is the second biggest arms manufacturer in the world and enjoys huge revenues at the expense of millions of deceased persons?  Should we have condemned Robert Sangster when he entered the Australian industry because he made gambling millions at the expense of others less fortunate.

There's a huge difference between criticizing the State on one hand, and automatically condemning an individual of that State on the other.

That totally depends on the state.

Under dictatorships like China and most Arab countries things are far more questionable.

We have a fair idea where Sangster and the now Coolmore bosses made their money and it was not from arms dealing.

You continue to miss the point Djebel

It's been said here that because the State is questionable it follows that the individual is also.  You've personally made that very claim.

No-one is saying Coolmore made its money from arms dealing, but if you use your very own reasoning we should question Magnier due to the profit-by-war activities of the State in which his business interests are largely situated.

That doesn't make any more sense than attacking Zhang Yue Sheng simply because of his nationality and birthright.

Let us know then where he made his money? and mores the case, where does he keep it......he floats about between HK/MC and the world.....he has bloodstock agents, or bloodsuckers, you choose.....spending money like no tomorrow....but you avoid the question don't you, China is a corrupt communist state, should be no rich, like corrupt Russia, so where does this Chinese billionaire earn his coin, where? ...and how? I really don't think you're a fool, and I mean that, but the Arabs took Dubai by strength and force, they are not a monarchy as we know it, Dubai is a corrupt state by the manner in which it treats it's migrant workers, and the ruler treats his daughter.....so many people depend on them for a living that their opines are irrelevant, you show me this Chinaman earned his coin honestly and I'll shout you a trip on Branson's moon rocket...you'll deserve it!

Thanks Red Hare, I'd heard plenty about the bribery and what not, to read it, alleged as it is, it's out there. If gambling becomes a reality on the mainland then who will make it to the stratosphere? no prizes for guessing and with 'friends' in the 'party' oh well, we know how it works......Hong Kong was a different animal, and I admire the way the HKJC profits are channelled back into the community, but the hypocrisy that is China and their appalling human and animal rights is sickening, and to see especially in New Zealand the crawling up their backsides by people that would otherwise battle in the racing industry defies belief. Some of those bloodstock agents seen grovelling at the feet of those Chinese 'businessmen' is also sickening, but how could they upgrade the rangerover without their money, upgrade the private schools, upgrade the mansion, take the holiday to luxury resorts? oh that's right, join the gravy train, who cares about Falun Gong.....who cares where the money comes from, the death squads aren't relevant, after all, it's other peoples money......and that's the problem......
