That is possibly not a bad idea. How deeply did you look into that ?

What would the result be ?

The top 10 could change dramatically with Greg Carpenter saying that up to the end of Saturday 50,000 votes had been added to the 100,000 recorded up till then.

HAPPY CLAPPER has been named as the first Wildcard invitation.

Strange they would name one of four wildcards before announcing the 10 that make up the vote winners.

Hilarious how they’re already trying to spin this. This surely is not what they were thinking would happen. Farce.

but based on the results in similar concepts in naming boats, such as BoatyMcBoatface... we all knew this was going to happen....

It’s not great, but there are 4 G1 winners there. I imagine that all 4 wildcard invites will go to G1 winners.....Happy Clapper, Hartnell, etc

So 8 of the field of 14 are already G1 winners. Having 60% of the runners being G1 winners isn’t horrible, but the massive difference in quality across the field is not a great look.

This is quite hilarious.
The VRC board will probably be hiding out in the cloak room out the back of the members stand when this farce is being run. Desperately trying to work out the inevitable wholesale changes to the concept. They will probably be clamouring to send out a press release before the field gets to Chiquita Lodge.

Top 10 is proof that Victorian racing has no idea in how to organise a chook raffle in comparison to racing Nsw who are leading the way with innovation . This concept was clearly not thought through and the current field is substandard. 5 million would of been better spent on future pathways for unwanted and retiring racehorses to not end up at the knackery. There needs to be a balance in where the money is being spent, this type of miss spent funds does not enhance the image of racing IMHO. All STAR MILE should mean a truly international event with invitations to attract All Stars , I am not being disrespectful toward some of the top ten owners, but the race name is the all star mile not The Debacle.

I don’t mind the field, gives my horse a live chance.
Not everyday you get a chance for a $25,000 Adelaide MM purchase to take on a $5 million race.

Looking forward to it.

All well and good but one of the Gr1 winners is Foundry who won a Metrop, 2400m, and who hasn't raced in 477 days.

Happy Clapper or Alizee should win. With Amphitrite also close.  It depends which Grunt turns up.  Beautiful horse but he's all over the place.  Some of these will be streeted.

It doesn't rather make a muddle of their stand against the Everest.  This format doesn't work for the best field.  Even the Kosciuszko has a better format with the country horses.

You mean like 2 million dollar races for restricted sales juveniles- the Inglis Banner or whatever. Another mill for an ordinary bunch of 3yos.

They're all as bad as each other.

I saw the RV chairman interviewed and he was rather pleased with how things were going. Quality of the field was not a major consideration.

RV CEO Giles Thompson said, “To receive near on 140,000 validated eligible votes is a resounding endorsement of the All-Star Mile and shows that Australian sports fans have embraced the concept in its first year.

“We’re particularly pleased that 45 percent of our voters were female and that people within the 25 to 34 year-old age group were the most active, accounting for a quarter of all validated eligible votes.

Are reporters there asking questions? Is this a field deserving of $5m? Does it diminish the race in anyway the fact you can currently get $61 for one of the "All-Stars" in an Eagle Farm class 6 this weekend?

Totally agree the magic millions day is another that could be spent on welfare on the 1000 plus horses sold every year, Qld racing are well behind the other 2 .

A handful of rivets and half a tube of silicon to fix one badly damaged Atherton barrier with no padding,   passed as safe by Racing Qld Stewards that resulted in life threatening injury to my filly is evidence that money is not being administered evenly, I would show the picture of the injury but many would be too shocked at the severity leaves a bad taste in mouth and pocket , racing Authorities need to generally pull their socks up.

The on-course bookies are going to have to get new, wider boards with room for the extra 0’s needed for the prices some of these will be put up at.
