Thoughts and prayers to this beautiful and courageous Australian man.

Whilst golf takes a backseat to who he truly is and what he means to people, it has to be said too what a fine golfer he really is and would have been capable of so many more wins had he not gone through this cruel ordeal.

Much love to you Jarrod

His last post on social media basically said that he had accepted his fate and was entering palliative care and would not be posting again - could have been put better by the editor, but it's accurate.
In reference to every post in the Trump thread ... "There may have been a tiny bit of license taken there" ... Ok, Thanks for the "heads up" PT!

  • 3 MINUTE READ

Tough bastard Jarrod Lyle. Not many tougher. Barely two weeks ago in the latest blog on his website, Lyle’s wife Bri provided graphic detail of how tough his fight had become.

Lyle had become a mystery to doctors. He was having trouble with his vision and struggling to hold down food. His speech was slurred and slow.

His hearing had been affected by infections in the inner and outer sections of one ear. He had undergone five sessions of plasma exchange, where three litres of plasma were removed from his blood and replaced with “safe’’ plasma.

He was recovering from a fever and had suffered multiple infections. He had excess air inside and outside his bowel thanks to a pinprick hole that would never be found.

The smallest amount of exercise was exhausting. He was emotionally and physically spent.

There were days when they didn’t know whether he would make it through the night.

He had been unable to see his daughters — Lusi and Jemma — for fear of infections. Lyle wasn’t giving up though.

He was determined to beat cancer for a third time. He was grimly hanging on. Sometimes, however, even the toughest run out of fight.

For Lyle, that day has arrived. He battled acute myeloid leukaemia — a form of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow — once when a teenager and found a way to live his dream on the PGA Tour.

He fought it a second time and again, found his way back to the PGA Tour. Confronted by cancer a third time, he gave it everything.

This time, there will be no comeback. His journey has been confronting and inspirational. It has been filled with joy and sorrow, tears and triumph.

He has shared it with the world, hoping to make a difference in just one life. He has affected so many more with his sunny outlook and dogged refusal to let cancer get the better of him.

You only had to look at the responses this morning as word spread of his decision to enter palliative care.

The news rocked the Australian contingent on the PGA Tour. Adam Scott spoke about Lyle’s positivity. Jason Day said Lyle’s battle had put things in perspective. Former British Open winner Ian Baker-Finch said Lyle had fought with the heart of a lion.

Marc Leishman said he was gutted for Lyle’s family. What a family they are. Five years ago, The Australian spent a day at The Sands Golf Club in Victoria with Lyle and his family.

Daughter Lusi buzzed about the room. She swung a cut-down putter, mimicking her father, all the while blissfully unaware about the role she had played in his fight.

Then there was Bri. What a woman. She and Lyle went to the same high school but weren’t close when he was diagnosed with cancer for the first time.

She recalled him turning up to graduation with a shaved head. They crossed paths a few years later and became an item. They were inseparable thereafter. When Bri was pregnant with Lusi, Lyle suffered his second bout of cancer.

She never flinched. It was Bri who delivered the devastating news last night.

“He has given everything that he’s got to give, and his poor body cannot take anymore,” she wrote.

“We’ll be taking him closer to home in the next couple of days so he can finally leave the hospital.

“We have done our best to ‘control’ the narrative surrounding Jarrod’s illness and treatment, and as more and more people become involved in this final process I’m not sure how much longer this development will remain private.

“Jarrod knows he is loved, and the thousands of prayers and well wishes that have been sent his way have kept him going through some incredibly tough times.

“But he has reached his limit, and the docs have finally agreed that they can no longer strive for a positive outcome.”

Bri started the message by saying that her heart was breaking as she typed the words. Our hearts break as we read them.

His swing matched his personality.
Just a very calm gentle swing.
Very nice golf swing.
Even after so much treatment and pain, he came back to golf showing he really had the goods as a golfer.
He most certainly would have been up there with the likes of Marc Leishman etc.

Jarrod will be remembered a champion though, in so many other ways.
Australia should name a huge golf tournament after him and get our nation supporting golf again.

The Lyle Masters?

The Lyle Cup

The Lyle Classic

Name or create a golf course after him too, The Lyle Links, etc.

Would mean heaps to other golfers to play in a tournament honouring Jarrod.

The Lyle Legend

Golf tournament, inviting all the great around the world.
Australia needs to get its a#ss into gear with golf again.
A major tournament, maybe hold it around a week after the Melbourne Cup, so international guests come to both events. November is the month that best suits international golfers coming here.

But we gotta do something to inspire again. Jarrod is the man.

Nothing against Lyle, sounds like a good bloke and a fairly good golf pro, but millions of kids die every year in the gutter and nobody gives a f*ck and they certainly don't name golf tournaments after them.

Never met Jarrod, but I have a lot of mutual friends in the golf industry who knew him very well, universally acknowledged a great guy, and all who know him have have been devastated by his demise, and admiring of his guts in the struggle. Tlaz is right, we can't have a golf tournament for everyone who has been unfairly struck down in their prime, but we can gain inspiration from people with his attitude to adversity.

Another inspiring story this week, that hopefully has a happier outcome, is the Swans Premiership backman, Alex Johnson who makes his first top grade appearance since the 2012 GF, this weekend.

These people are special, as they display the enviable characteristic of RESILIENCE - they refuse to be victims - something that is within us all, but also needs to be taught.

Unfortunately, it is no longer a part of the curriculum within today's schools and universities - I fear for a generation that is being groomed for failure and victimhood ...

This just confirms how beautiful life is, and how beautiful people can be.
Its not Jarrods fault he got cancer, nor his fault other people and children die unknown, with cancer.
The kids who die, are known to doctors, friends, family.
Jarrod happened to be known in media.

Jarrod lived, as a beautiful person.
The kids who die, are beautiful too.

Jarrod hitting aces on par 3's, is beautiful.

Life is beautiful.

Remembering Jarrod is beautiful.

And a post by a person, saying "hey, many kids die of cancer", is also beautiful, because thats a damn truth.
So whilst it seems a harsh thing to say, its beautiful that more unknown people are acknowledged for their fatal demise too.
