Very classy WA horse having his first Melbourne run today.
Now trained by Jarrod McLean in the magic waters of Warrnambool. |

Details of crucial late scratching of Trap For Fools:
Jarrod McLean is foreman of Darren Weir Racing’s Warrnambool stable as well as having own training set-up at Yangery. Trap For Fools was based at Weir’s ‘Bool stable in recent days, where McLean works every day |

Glad they scratched it. But why not recently when Weir has done the same thing (twice recently and a whole heap of them at the Bool carnival)?

Weir doesn’t train this one? And every other time this rule is broken , regardless of trainer, horse is scratched. Standard practice |

Weir, Maher have both been fined for it recently, horses weren’t scratched. Read the stewards report from the May carnival, an enquiry was opened into why a heap of Weir runners weren’t stabled where they were meant to be, none were scratched. They only difference is they were at alternate stables of the same trainer, but the result is the same - stewards can’t monitor them for Raceday treatments . |

Failing to update your stable return is different to having your horse trained at a location you are not licensed to train from. Hence those horses weren’t scratched.

Didn’t Platelet get scratched from a group race for that same thing though?

Again I’ll point out, Platelet was trained by Weir
Not sure how that is relevant to today’s circumstances. Trap for Fools is the responsibility of Mclean |

The stable housing the horse (Weir) will surely be involved too. |

How? When we go and stay at stables we don’t get asked by the hosts to provide proof the paperwork has been lodged. And I’ve been travelling horses between states for 4 years. |

I think the relevance is clearly about the relationship weir has with McLean and he has had form for similar things.
I think the argument is based around the fact freeman, McLean since going on their own or prior to joining weir have faced charges yet weir doesn’t. I think the fact when Australis leading trainer failed to comment on the Smerdon or moody saga when others stood up such as Hayes does make it hard to swallow that he’s turned over a new leaf and is clean and when something like today comes out it brings up previous doubts held over him |

You're quite biased towards the Weir stabke. Your loyalty is good to see |

The only ‘fact’ is that a change of stable should of been lodged.
Are these people semi professional or something? |

Sounds like a costly stuff up missing out on an important run today in terms of the rest of his campaign.
So where does he go now? MV Cup perhaps? |

JARROD MCLEAN CHARGED
Charge: AR 175(gg) The Principal Racing Authority (or the Stewards exercising powers delegated to them) may penalise: (gg) Any person who makes any false or misleading statement or declaration in respect of any matter in connection with the administration or control of racing. A summary of the particulars of the charge are as follows: 1. At 6:09pm on 19 October 2018, Mr McLean sent a text message to a Racing Victoria Steward in which he stated that Trap For Fools would be sent to Darren Weirs Warrnambool stables at 4:30am the next day. 2. At 3:50am on 20 October 2018, Racing Victorias Compliance Assurance Team attended Mr Weirs Warrnambool Stable to conduct a race day stable inspection and identified that Trap for Fools was already stabled at Mr Weirs Warrnambool Stables. 3. Mr McLean was questioned by Stipendiary Stewards from Racing Victorias Compliance Assurance Team and he told them that Trap For Fools was brought to Mr Weirs stables the previous night between approximately 6:30pm and 7:00pm. 4. The text message was false and/or misleading in that Mr McLean knew at the time of sending it that Trap for Fools was already at Mr Weirs Warrnambool Stable and had been for some time. The statements then made to Racing Victorias Compliance Assurance Team were false and/or misleading in that he knew that Trap for Fools was not transferred to Mr Weirs Warrnambool Stable at the time he said it was. Mr McLean will appear before the RAD Board in relation to the above charge on a date to be fixed. |

Despite only running 2nd today, that placing has seen him pass the first ballot clause for the Melb Cup. So he’d potentially spike up to the low-mid 30’s in the order of entry.
A few above him are in doubt, so the slim hope of a WA horse making the Cup field is still alive. |
