Must say I was quite shocked with the $27.5k price tag on this bloke.

I have to say - they’d have to pay me to send a mare to him. Alas he’s not having runners this coming season so he doesn’t belong in the thread

No apologies needed - it could’ve easily been about stallions new to stud.

None for myself but have heard a few good reports.  Few stables that I have contact with are saying that some of them will run early and have shown a bit of potential.  Haven't heard of any getting massive raps yet but still early days.

Better Than Ready is really performing well.  I didn't mind the Shooting to Wins at the sale but plenty of people really hated them.  Shows my eye is off sometimes.  One of my favourite mares who I follow stock from had one sell to WA while I marked a few others also all under $100K so maybe the trainers didn't like them.  I wouldn't worry about him till his three year olds come out to play though.

I posed the same question about Shooting To Win to someone in the industry the other day, i.e. why the market was taking such a set against them. The reply was more based on temperament concerns as opposed to type. There is a good opinion of his filly that won at Canterbury.

The other freshman stallion (and incidentally barn-mate) that interests me is Hallowed Crown. Only one runner so far, which isn't surprising, but given the market didn't love him last year, one can assume that they'll be cheap at Magics and Classic.

Regarding Shooting To Win, there are several reasons why he was not as popular in the ring as his half brother.

The main reason being Darley/Godolphin.  Many stallions from Darley just don't get the early interest at sales.  Possibly due to lack of promotion and also the absence of Darley at the sales ring.  Obviously this has changed a little since Vin Cox came along but their stallions just do not get the level of hype as other farms.

Secondly, it wasn't the best crop of 3yo that he performed against so I guess people are a bit worried there too.

Personally, I like him though.  Won at 2, G1 at three, nice page and a nice type.  I have a colt foal by him and he is a great type.

Good luck with it.  Hope the market shows something this year.  That usually shows if the trainers have a good one with a young stallion.

If I was selling yearlings at Melbourne Premier by any of this crop of sires (apart from Better than Ready) I'd be very nervous
Am prepared to cut some slack for both Wandjina & Dissident
I know it is early but I am starting to query the ROI on a Brazen Beau purchase
It would be nice to be wrong

Brazen Beau still has the Golden Slipper favourite, also has Accession who is handy, hardly going badly.

$800k for the Brazen Beau colt at Premier.

Still plenty of believers.

Based on his page was about a $250k job imo, so there's certainly some hype around the stallion.

My point re BB is regarding return on investment. Is he upgrading mares for people to pay that sort of money?
At those prices & on early indications there is plenty of room for doubt.
I did say I would be happy to be wrong

Agree, more than a few appear to have sold for "overs".  Some buyers will make money, most won't.

The Chinese have entered the market and it looks like they are trying to outbid each other.
Where would the industry be without them.
Scary if they decide to leave.

I didn't mean to put the mock on Brazen Beau that much. Tassort & Accession both spelling & another 15 2y.o's that have had a run yet to win
I have a feeling the breed is soft legged & I am open to criticism or informed knowledge

Well that goes without saying given buyers are arguably paying overs.

Spendthrift Farm's Bolt d'Oro who served both his first Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere books last year (2019), with 104 mares covered in Australia at a debut fee of AU$13,750 will not be shuttling back to OZ this year.

Garry Cuddy - "We are disappointed to announce that Bolt d'Oro will not shuttle to Australia in 2020 due to him not handling the shuttle process last season. Our decision has been made with the welfare of the horse in mind."
