It's funny, going into the WC of previous years English fans were so expectant. This year they seemed almost resigned to defeat. Then, after the first pool game they were all up and about again.
No one goes from 0-100mph (and then back again) quite like the English sports fan.

The French frogs should ease past Croatia in the final. The thing that worries me with Croatia is the amount of game time they've had to play. They haven't won a knockout game in normal time. They've had to work overtime to make it through. With that in mind, and with France also getting an extra day rest, my opinion is France will put a few past them and win comfortably.
Croatia also looked to have a few wounded warriors at the end of this morning's game. It's going to be tough for them to back up. |

It was well played by Croatia. There is a lot of unity and purpose in that team. Croatia is a nation of just 4.1 million people. That is less than New Zealand but they are well placed as far as European football is concerned. They all speak the same native tongue. And they are very Croatian. There are more 'iches' in that team than an old jockstrap.

However the big question, to flagrantly misquote from another Great English Tragedy, is:
"Fiddlesticks Fiddlesticks where for art thou Fiddlesticks?"

Correct. 1,100 years of white settlement, small population. Compare to Englands 60 million people, get some foreign black players, still cant win. |

That is just not right (on several levels). Danny Rose born in Doncaster UK Ruben Loftus-Cheek born in Lewisham UK Fabian Delph born in Bradford UK Marcus Rashford born in Wythenshawe, UK Dele Ali born in Milton Keynes, UK Jesse Lingard born in Warrington, UK Raheem Sterling born in Kingston Jamacia, migrated to UK aged 5 and has represented England since Under 16 level. They can't be considered 'foreign' if they are born in Britain. Sterling is the only man of color that wasn't born in Britain and he migrated when he was five. |

“I’m Technically Croatian” Says Australian Serbs, Bosnians, Macedonians, Ukrainians, Czechs, Lower PolishAustralia’s white ethnic communities are today relishing in the fact that a former Yugoslavian territory that their grandmother may have lived in has progressed to the FIFA World Cup Final against France. The Republic Of Croatia, formerly known as the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, has knocked England out of the World Cup finals – after close to a month of English fans telling the planet that ‘it’s coming home’. And much like the thousands of traitorous Australians living in England who jumped on the Three-Lions bandwagon, the Croatian’s finals dash has resulted in millions of more fans come out of the wood work around the world. The common occurrence of 2nd-generation slavic Australians trotting out different old countries has increased over the last twenty years, after countless changes to international borders in Eastern Europe. In a region smaller than Victoria, many migrants have parents who’s nationality changed several times in their lifetime through war and politics – which means, everyone has a grandmother who was technically Croatian. In fact, aside from the countless Australian Serbs, Bosnians, Macedonians, Ukrainians, Czechs, Lower Polish and Slovenians that have today revealed a latent Croatian heritage… Citizens with heritage as far as West of Greece have been quick to declare their undying loyalty to Republika Hrvatska. The Betoota Advocate spoke to some of these newfound Slavs. “WE DID IT” shouts one brand new Croatian-Australian, Dominic, who’s family come from far-Eastern-Italia, which is basically Croatia. “Haha sucked in England” https://www.betootaadvocate.com/uncategorized/im-technically-croatian-says-australian-serbs-bosnians-macedonians-ukrainians-czechs-lower-polish/?mc_cid=17a1f94e31&mc_eid=1b8d058525 |

After my unexpected 3 week stint back in Melbourne, I quickly returned to Ukraine and this past Friday drove through Slovakia, Hungary and am on the island of Krk on the Adriatic coast in Croatia. This trip was planned back in May so there was no idea that I would be here with the country playing the World Cup Final. Its rocking and rolling here in preparation for the game as natives have the flags out and soccer guernsies on! Cheers from the beach! |
