They are awaiting a decision from QCAT on the stay. This type of action doesn't reflect well and won't help their cause.

I saw but didn't hear Brent Zaraffa speaking on Racing.com t.v. on this issue. Seeing BZ speaking about integrity was very amusing.

He's still in his mid-late 20s.
Par for the course, IMO. Doubt he even remembers what it was like to have to memorise your mate's phone number.

If only betting was so easy. Saw the poster name on the thread update and bet myself that he'd find a way to weedle in some mention of his obsession. Bingo.
When he gets off the meds perhaps he'll document his charges more specifically?

No great shock that the stay was granted. QCAT handing them out is little more than a rubber stamp profess these days. The fact that they had to consider this one for a few days makes you think QRIC might have a pretty solid case.

Clinton PayneRacing NSW stewards have invoked a rule which stops embattled Queensland trainer Ben Currie from entering horses in New South Wales. Currie is currently facing 31 charges including raceday treatment and shockwave therapy, providing false evidence and obstructing a stewards’ investigation. Late last month NSW stewards issued Currie with a show cause notice “as to why the provisions of AR50, to reject or decline to receive nominations of horses trained by him, should not be invoked”. Australian racing rule AR50 reads - All nominations and entries are subject to approval, and the Committee of any Club, or the Stewards, may decline to receive, or at any time after having received, reject any nomination or entry without giving any reason for so doing. If any nomination or entry be rejected under this Rule, the fees paid in respect thereof shall be refunded. Currie provided “brief submissions” to stewards on May 30 and on June 6 and they ruled against the trainer, applying the rule. “Racing NSW Stewards are of the view that any hardship suffered by Mr Currie by the invoking the provisions of AR50, is outweighed by the prejudice to, and undermining of, the image, interests and integrity of racing in NSW if he was permitted to nominate (and race) horses in NSW while the serious charges issued against him are yet to be determined,” the stewards report read. “In those circumstances, the “balance of convenience” is against Mr Currie and, accordingly, Racing NSW Stewards rule that, acting under the provisions of AR50, nominations of horses trained by Mr Currie will be declined to be received and/or rejected until the charges issued by the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission as detailed above have been resolved.” At this stage no date has been set for Currie’s hearing, although it’s expected to be heard later this month. Currie is currently training a stay of proceedings in Queensland and has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.

Maybe QRIC could just send a full-time steward to supervise this yard, especially race morning.

Currie inquiry takes a turn as CCTV footage emergesPivotal information in Queensland Racing Integrity Commission’s case against Ben Currie and four of his stable employees has emerged. CCTV Footage obtained by The Courier Mail allegedly shows Ben Currie’s father, Mark Currie, illegally treating horses on raceday at Ben Currie’s Hursley Road stable in Toowoomba. The footage published on The Courier Mail was filmed on March 24, a key date where stewards allege that 5 horses were treated illegally before racing that same day. The Courier Mail also published transcripts of interviews transcripts conducted by QRIC’s integrity regulation unit manager Tracey Pelling, chief steward Allan Reardon and steward Ian Brown with Mark Currie. In one of the excerpts Mark Currie was questioned whether he had treated Gully’s Command on March 24 to which he replied “I’ll take responsibility for it”. Alan Reardon: … You agree that Gully Command’s been treated on that day? Mark Currie: Yep. Alan Reardon: Is there anything you’d like to say before the team here review further footage? Mark Currie: No. I’ll just take it – I’ll take responsibility for it.
Mark Currie was disqualified for two years after being found guilty of 16 charges involving race day treatment. He remains operating having been granted an extension of a stay on his disqualification. Ben Currie is facing 31 charges which mainly relate to alleged race day treatments. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges and has indicated he will defend them all. Other Ben Currie employees punished as a result of the inquiry include Greg Britnell (18 months disqualification), Cameron Schwenke (three months suspension) and Silde Canda (three months suspension).

I could add another charge that could be considered. Bringing racing into dispute would be one for sure. What amazes me are the owners who are happy to leave their horses there, knowing that the horses are getting an unfair advantage.
If Ben and dad really believed it was legal to give horses "stuff" on raceday, why did they do it in secrecy? In my books, he can train a thousand winners, buy will always be a cheat who had his success based on breaching rules. Obviously not all horses get treated on race day, but winning races with juiced up horses leads to better horses in the stable, more clients, and that means more winners. And that goes back to being willing to cheat in the first place.
He is not the first or only one, and the Aquanita saga shows that, but there will be more and more worried now. A good telltale sign is the stables whose strikerate drops through the floor without illness being to blame. Some of the cheat have pulled their heads in, albeit possibly only temporarily, since the increased testing.
The other stunning thing is being allowed to continue training until this is sorted. He should be stood down like in other situations where people are charged with major offenses. QRIC needs to show some guts and protect the integrity of racing.
Maybe if all trainers refuse to race against Currie trained horses, the powers to be would soon act.

If QCAT saw the video and still gave them a stay, QCAT have a lot to answer for.
Owners are THERE for the unfair advantage, pure and simple.

Getting a stay via QCAT is a rubber stamp process. The fact they took a few days before awarding one to Currie speaks volumes.

They’re having plenty of problems in Toowoomba. The next biggest operation up there has also just returned a cobalt positive from a winner at Kilcoy. There will be no trainers left soon, except the few that follow the rules.

I doubt any trainer would be dumb enough to knowingly administer. However the Aquanita and Currie stables do not seem to be Cobalt infringements.

Samples taken from Ben Currie-trained horses on Weetwood Handicap day at Toowoomba have been cleared of containing prohibited substances. The tests, which were taken on April 7 this year, were part of an investigation into the Ben and Mark Curriestable on the morning of Toowoomba's biggest raceday.Officers from the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission seized a number of items from the stable, as well as taking blood and urine samples from seven horses in Currie's care.QRIC Commissioner Ross Barnett said it was important to be transparent about the test results.“All testing is now complete and none of the samples taken for testing contained any prohibited substances,” Barnett said.“In the aftermath (to the April 7 stewards visit), several Currie Racing employees have been charged and penalised for raceday treatment breaches.“I want to make it clear that treating a horse on raceday with any medication, prohibited or not without the permission of the stewards is a breach of the Australian Rules of Racing," Barnett said. The legal representatives of both Ben and Mark Currie have been informed of the latest findings.

The wheels are well and truly off. Without a few home track results he would be scratching his head. Funny how many stables winners seem to dry up when closer scrutiny is paid to their runners. Coincidence maybe ??

He trained 3 yesterday in Toowoomba. One by 10, one by 1.3 and the other by 4. Seems to me that the wheel brace has been brought out and jumped on by me and the wheels are well and truly tightened on. What a dumb comment yours is Batman
