Just watched the replays of the Bendigo meeting, a sad sight seeing those horrific falls. Certainly the worst I’ve ever seen and I’m a fan of the jumps so it saddens me to saw that

Sunday’s card at Sandown looks brilliant 👍

The Crisp Steeplechase sees a real trans-Tasman bout with Aussies WELLS & GOLD A PLENTY taking on the Kiwi invaders SEA KING & MONARCH CHIMES. A couldn’t pick a winner here, just a race to enjoy.

The novice hurdle has first season jumper OUR YANGTZE as an odds on fave. But the most interesting runner is Robbie Laings front-running import DARABAD, who hopefully has improved his jumping technique since the trials. But I’ll get on the ex-Kevin Myers kiwi ZENTANGLE, with drop in class & softer track to suit.

In the Victorian GN Hurdle, we’ve got another odds on pop in SELF SENSE, who has had an amazingly good campaign this autumn/winter. But it has been a very long campaign and he’s going into uncharted waters in term of running the 4200m distance shouldering 69kg’s. I’m thinking about going DANE HUSSLER each way. Probably prefer the track heavy for her best chance but she’s been thereabouts this winter and should be hitting peak fitness for Sunday. It’s been 26 years since David Hayes won the GN Hurdle with the mighty HIP FLASK in 1992, I think he can do it again in 2018. Just a shame it’s not held at Flemington on a Saturday anymore.

I see Mujadale has been put down. Presumably due to his fall. Sad news.

Poor horse.
They need to look into mandatory retirement like here.
Cruel to run a 14yo

Yes I’m serious.
This can only end one way, the horse breaking down and dying.

I know that. But at 14 years of age, the risk is too high.
In Australia you are banned from racing at 13.
I think that rule should be introduced to NZ too

Sorry, But the risk for a 14 year old is no more than it is for a horse of any age.

Superb spectacle with no fallers & a fairytale result Clap
Very unusual for the Corps to be so cautious/such good judges vs the punters Confused

SP $18 BT $41 & a Q/tab exacta of $447 vs NSW $156

Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!

Eric Musgrove's horse ABEBE was found to have an elevated ARSENIC level in his system after winning a steeplechase at Murray Bridge in June. Eric argued that his horse could have got it from chewing on treated wooden fencing. The stewards found him guilty of presenting a horse with elevated arsenic levels but decided to record a conviction but impose no penalty except disqualification from the steeplechase the horse originally won. We wonder whether this result, posted yesterday afternoon had anything to do with the scratching of all his runners from today's hurdle at Morphettville.

An excellent race card - congrats to the Ballarat TC for embracing jumps racing.

R1 - Solar Coaster : Gut feel that the 4000m will suit

R2 - Bold Bandit: was really good 1st up at The Bool and should improve against a pretty mediocre field

R3 - Darabad : heart in the mouth but he boxed on well at debut and also last start on the flat.

R4 - Bit of A Lad : one of the finds of the season and is really good on wet tracks.

R5 - Zentangle : NZ gelding who is also a mud lark.

R6 - Spying on You : always an each way chance in these marathon jumps races.

Racing.com reporting horse and jockey both fine.
Horse took off a stride too early and hit the jump on the way down.

The winner of Race 1, Evanesce, is a cast off from Godolphin.

Will be interesting to see how another ex-Godolphin horse in Big Blue goes at his debut for Ciaron Naher.
