The favorites are off to a bad start

Sydney Roosters star Luke Keary breaks jaw during training

Adrian Proszenko

Published: January 31 2018 - 9:56PM

Luke Keary has broken his jaw at training in a blow that will prevent the Roosters from trialling the new-look halves pairing with Cooper Cronk ahead of the NRL season kick off.

Keary has had a plate inserted after sustaining the injury during a physical field session. The setback is expected to sideline the premiership-winning pivot for up to four weeks, ruling him out of any of the club's trial matches.

However, Keary is expected to be fit for the opening round clash against Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium.

The Roosters are the premiership favourites after adding James Tedesco and Cooper Cronk to an already star-studded line up.

Cronk and Keary will be the tri-colours' new halves pairing after Mitchell Pearce was released to Newcastle, but fans will have to wait to see the combination in action.

cowboys look awesome - best halves in the game and big ripping forward pack. If JT stays fit they win

I'm sure the Roosters will survive, they do work on a 20 million cap

Eels will finish top 4 again, they had a big year last year

Warriors might surprise and come 2nd last

I think the Raiders are a big chance of the spoon

Hooker is out for 20 weeks, forwards are too big not mobile enough, Tapine is the best mobile forward and he comes off the bench, only 2 good backs ( Rapana and Cotic) while Leilua wants to fight every time he runs, fullback is woeful, Croker is ok but nothing special and the 6/7 are too hot and cold

I'm a mad Panther supporter. However, am just about ready to give up on them. Both Gould & Griffin have a lot of explaining to do. So much for the laying down the foundations for a dynasty that they rattled on about a few years ago. Fell into the semis last year & struggled to score a point - yet they have a bloke like Moylan sitting in the grandstands fully fit & wanting to play. Never seen that happen before in my life. Then they end up swapping him for Maloney ( did they really expect to keep hiim after the way he was treated). Now Maloney is a great footballer - but really he is coming to the end of his career. Moylan is destined to be a superstar. They also let go of Martin half way through the season to the Cowboys....& he played strongly......& now they lose Cartwight to the Titans. Just as well they have the biggest nursery in the NRL because they are going to need them the way they are burning them up. Really jacked off with them !

Also not convinced the Roosters deserve to be favourites. Have a feeling when things get a bit tough a few players will remember some of the underhanded off-season decisions taken by the management.

& am predicting a shocker for Canberra. Stuart's coaching style wears thin pretty quickly. He has a habit of spitting the dummy when things don't go his way so I expect some fireworks from him this year. It will be everyone else's fault - refs , players , management. No one should ever forget the way he treated Parra - talk about promising the world & delivering bugger all !

I'm more interested in why Bellamy cottoned on to this overweight ambling alp and would be thug Kasiano, although I'm not a bulldog fan I had a lot of time for Des but he could only get 18 minutes a half out of this bloke, he's better of playing water polo with that big mitt of his, inflatable help off course.

Kasiano a would be thug ? seriously ? he's just a big unit , under Des he wasn't allowed to be lean and mean if you recall the start of last season Kasiano had trimmed down for his wedding to about what he looks like now but when the season started Des told him he needed to bulk up that's why he could only get 20 mins a game , I reckon he will have a great year under Bellamy.

I seen him do a few last year that weren't quite kosher, maybe we see things in a diferrent light, Des is not a mug so why would he want him to bulk up just to get 20 mins e/w, so he's lost 24 kg well must had it there to lose, lets see what the new season brings.

Ok Ok, maybe I was a hit harsh on him, but I won't retract my thug comment because I saw what I saw, why would a coach let a man get this big 142 kg, seriously this could have ended in a sad way, well it backfired and des is not there , so much for his input on this player, anyhow good luck to him.
