Just on Phil Emmanuel.

There is a live show he did with Tom, in France, I think in 2014, on you tube and if you think Australians can not play the guitar, then take a ook at that video.

If I could I would post it here, but that is what being technically deficient results in.

New York (CNN)Anthony Bourdain, a gifted storyteller and writer who took CNN viewers around the world, has died. He was 61.

CNN confirmed Bourdain's death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide.
"It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain," the network said in a statement Friday morning. "His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time." more....

I watched my first ever episode of a Bourdain show today. Crikey he was a puffing billy. How can a chain smoker be a gourmand?

J Neurol. 2008 Aug;255(8):1121-6. doi: 10.1007/s00415-008-0807-9. Epub 2008 Jul 28.

The association between smoking and smell and taste impairment in the general population.

Like many great chefs he had bad habits. Some drink too much, some take drugs and a few unfortunately take their own life.

How do they taste anything , when they smoke  ??
And seriously.   All these people who claim to be great chefs, etc.   Some of that stuff they dish up , my cat wouldnt eat.
Tiny bit of ??  something ???  on a plate with squiggles of juice around it.  Mostly the meat is raw.  And it costs an arm and a leg.    Maybe thats the go for the modern trendies in the city, but no one in the real world is going looking for that stuff for a feed.
Serious.   Get out of the city and cop a real steak.   Cooked so it doesnt moo when the knife goes in,  and  it fills the plate, without being tarted up with greenery.

Mrs Bear asks for her steak to have the horns cut off then show it to the grill. Blue they call it. She likes to eat it raw too. She'd fight the dog for it - and win!
Must come with crispy spuds of any variety ( chips, roasties, gems, hash browns ) and something green is optional ( she's partial to a bit of spinach and brussel sprouts ).

YUKKIE.  Sick     Blue meat makes me shudder.    But I do like brussle sprouts, and LOVE spinach .
But,  all this stuff,,of the great/amazing/champion/expert chefs.  What exactly makes them such experts ??? I mean,  who said they were great food critiques ??   Who said their taste was perfect ?     Why is their taste so much better than the rest of us ??????     Do we all need to get out and about in fancy gear with silly neck wear ,,,and that makes us suitable to tell people whats the best tucker.
How do these world reknown chefs get their kudos ???   Looking at some/most of what they dish up,  I would never eat it, and neither would most of my friends and family.

Taste is a personal thing - like beauty in the eyes of the beholder. Folks like Gordon Ramsay aren't  random but I think I've tasted better food from others not as highly rated. Marco Pierre White food is rubbish for the price. I've visited both chef/owners restaurants (  Ramsay in Chelsea, White in London ) on overseas trips. I remember Ramsay standing at the back of the restaurant, looking like a father waiting for his teenage daughter to get home, watching all the diners closely. I recall American idiots wearing baseball caps in White's fancy dive. Both were over 15 years ago and I never went back on subsequent trips. My favourite restaurants (2) ever in St.Kilda closed down after 3-4 years. They were not trendy enough I guess. Both had highly regarded chefs.
Some who supposedly run best restaurant in the world I couldn't care for. Rehydrated this and sauces of that. Gels, jus, foam and other dodgy techniques add little for mine. Foraged weeds and specialty processes do little for me. Give me a bowl of home made pasta with a simple sauce  any day.
Then there's those that run a hidden gem of a take away/cafe specialising in a simpler food that have been open for thirty years or more that nobody has ever heard of. Such establishments might sell great pizza, Chinese, Lebanese or Turkish food. It could be superb fish and chips or pies/pastries. They tend to be the places with great cooks that I go back to time and again. The fancy ones tend to go out of favour a lot quicker or disappoint more regularly than not.

I've watched a lot of overseas racing tonight. I'm in training for Ascot next week. Time for some sleep.

Oops forgot to mention -
Most get their kudos from the Michelin Guide. It was started by the French for the benefit of travellers on road trips donkeys years ago ( 1900 ). These days their critics visit restaurants all over the world in secret and pass judgement. Chefs have been known to neck themselves if they get a bad rating ( or one marginally worse than they previously got ). The guide tends to favour French style establishments but has branched out more over the last decade or two.
Then there's the new kids  on the critics block -

Golfing great Peter Thompson dead at 88.

True pioneer of Australian golf, and along with guys like Norman Von Nida and co, they were the forefathers of the huge success Australian golfers have had ever since.

I am sure he has been invited to the major on the big course in the sky!
