Surely the decision to run in the Lightning Stks would be up to the owners, not the trainer. Especially when the new trainer has had the horse for all of 5 minutes!! I think he should run in both the Lightning Stks 1000m & Oakleigh Plate 1100m. I have a gut feeling that 1200m in G1 company might find him out. Keep him to 1000-1100m sprints, that’s his sweet spot. |

ps and paradoxically there's far more pressure earlier on in an Oakleigh Plate than there is in a Lightning.

Exactly. Big field, tighter track, for a horse than doesnt jump the best and should never be bustled out of the barriers. Risk in the OP even though the the Lightning is usually a stronger race- he’ll have about 5 or 6 rivals and he can just pick his spot down the Flemington straight. Nominal fave is a horse he be 8L over the same trip last time in. Surely...

Sorry, but if he doesn’t run the only explanation that makes any sense is the trainer has a stallion prospect in the same race. More demented million dollar restricted sales races yesterday, Urban Ruler heading the ballot in the worlds richest mile...seriously, this sport is starting to resemble boxing

On a day they were running to slow track times , Natrure Strip , produces an almost 1.5 second faster run than the Diamond Preludes, over the 1100m.

I agree the lightning would be a walk in the park for him, having a look at him in the mounting yard yesty there's not much of him, lightened of in the neck and a tad behind , will he cop 3 runs in 3 weeks is debatable , maybe one of either then freshen for the TJ , he's gunna have to face the deep end sometime fwiw.

Pity he couldn't run last week. Was Lighting second up the Weir plan?
I can't think of any Lightningy type horses except Redzel. Who will be in it? |

Nature Strip is the most over rated horse in the country. He needs 1000 meters with no pressure otherwise he just folds.

Let’s see the wash up & whether there was anything amiss with the horse before bagging him.
But you may be right about just being a pure 1000m sprinter. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. He can tackle the Caulfield Sprint & AJ Moir in the spring & have a go at the Lightning Stks next autumn |

You're half right. He just needs 1000. Run him over 1000m. Not rocket science. One of the fastest horses I've seen but you just simply can't run those sort of sectionals and keep going. In a big handicap. They've stuffed him up.

I don't think he's a squib, he's just a unique animal. Imagine sending Usain Bolt out in a 400m race- but he couldn't help himself and decided WTF...I'm gonna go flat knackers from the start. He'd fold up.
Everything is there in this horse's splits. They were a tick outside the course record today. His last 200 today was just like his last 200 last start. I'd go overseas, seeing they missed their best chance here. Strangely, there are more G! 1000m races there than here. Fresh, they won't see which way he went.
