How good is she? Something special indeed.
Would love to see her at 2 miles...

No doubt she is top grade.

M.Baker is a dead set legend. Sure he gets well bred types, but that is because breeders and studs know his ability, which is well earned!

Very very good mare this one.

I had a decent early crack at Jon Snow in the CC but starting to think right stable, wrong horse.

No reason Bonneval can't run two miles either.

Iirc based on her rating Carpenter got her handicap wrong before her last two wins. She know looks to be extremely well in. Still hoping Gingernuts can improve a few lengths to make it interesting. Not sure staying at home was the right move though.

Doing a good job to be beating these horses at only her 10th start... could be suited to a race like the Arc one day

Had another race run to suit and just the 7 horses within a few lengths but does drop down in weight for the Caulfield Cup.

Good point VPI but she can only do what she has been doing. For a 4yo mare this is high quality. The likes of Ethereal and Republic Lass were placing in these races and she's winning them even if they are run too suit and she isn't necessarily spacing them. Some fair dinkum WFA horses in that Underwood.

Two key points: she will fall in weight (as you said), and she will be far better suited at 2400m+. For her to be winning at a mile and 1800m augurs very well come Caulfield & Melbourne Cup Day. Bowman some judge and wishes he could make the weight to ride her.

She looks to be the Caulfield Cup winner along with Humidor. Then she runs into Almandin in the big one...

I see her as the only serious danger to Almandin in the MC if she presses on after the CC.
Ever since the AJC Oaks I've been blown away by her acceleration..watched her NZ runs prior and seems to be able to tough it out when required as well.
Has the extra gears to take the big one out...perfect Cups type, adaptable and great turn of foot.
Fingers crossed she stays fit and well. Big fan.

Not saying she can't win as the small time trainer can get one ready for a big race. But, there's also a couple of Victorian country trainers who can too.

Talk of her being the second coming are a bit premature though, imo.

Hard to declare she's the second coming, but I can't make a call on her at all yet as she's quite obviously untapped as a 4yo mare, barely beaten, spaced ehr rivals in an electric Oaks win, and has transitioned to WFA racing with ease winning both starts when underdone and below her preferred trip.

She could be anything at this point but not the second coming as yet. She is a better performed horse than Winx at this stage which highlights why predictions are largely a waste of time. Wouldn't surprise me if she won a Cup or two this prep and comes back in the autumn to win a BMW.

Crunched in doubles betting. $34 with Sportsbet the best I can find & it is possible that is great value. Starting to look like a serious stand out for both the CC/MC imho.

Her history and racing patterns indicate soundness problems earlier in career .     Always a worry.
Smart win last time in best of the day but several good runs in a competitive race .
The $5.1 on Betfair for the C>C>   looks way unders to me.

The Hype on Bonneval is too big, too early .    Her last 2 runs were her first out of Restricted events and she won them nicely. Hartnell is the guide.
He got the worst of the " Ball Bounce " last time.   He settles in front of her tomorrow and that will show us what Bonny is made of.
She's in the Caulfield Cup with no weight , so the handicapper wasn't sharing the "Lets Elope " tag when he issued them.
I doubt she will start fav tomorrow from 11 actually. Hartnell is perfectly drawn.

There's been no "hype" on Bonneval. Look at this thread. Not a trendy horse here.

Overall , News, tipsters, are suggesting the next big thing.   She may well be.     We will know for sure Stayer in a matter of weeks.
One opinion only , and nothing beats sticking the neck out.        Generates some healthy reasoning.

So are you saying macca that the handicapper did not rate her 3yo form, compared to Let's Elope, or that her current prep is not as good as Bart's mare.

Lets Elope only had 49.5 kilos, and had to win the Turnbull to get a run. Her 3yo form was abysmal, but mainly due to wet tracks.

Bonneval's 3yo form is far superior and I would rate her current form as good as Lets Elopes, although Lets Elope's Turnbull win was sensationl defeating a good field whick included Durbridge and Prince Sailieri.

I will admit however that Hartnell's best chance of beating her is if he sits in front of her during the race. He can not give her a start and beat her home.

I was hinting how a really good one got in with no weight. =L.E
I had an ordinary stayer qualified for the MC that year 1991 and got 1K   more than LE . ( broke down before Cup time )
Given Bonneval had such good Oaks form especially ,   The handicapper let her in light too ( I feel )
She drops several K to the C>C> and providing she hasn't been injured in the "stack up" today , must take a power of beating, out to 2400m.
I suggested "no gut buster " today and you must admit she was given no chance of winning from the draw and rearward position.

Fwiw, the trainer said yesterday that he felt if there was a chink for this race, she may be looking for the 2400 & therefore be a bit dour. He gave Jon Snow a big chance without a preference for either but did say JS had needed the MV run.
Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!
