I really like this horse, has talent. Proved that by beating some decent country horses by 8 lengths. Luckless last start in a tough country final on a bog track.
Goes close today. |

I agree has ability. Probably trained off though after today's effort, or lack of it.

Wonder what the reason for dropping him back in distance from 2400m to 2025m today? He showed good staying power to run down Crocodile Rock (who is no slouch) last start over 2400m. Why wouldn't you keep racing him at his preferred distance of 2400m? |

Just checked out thia horses pedigree in detail for the first time.
I really like his sire Raise the Flag as a stamina stallion. But noticed that his grand dam is a half sister to the great stayer Lord Reims, the winner of the 1987 Caulfield Cup and an amazing 3 Adelaide Cups (1987, 88 & 89). Ubin Thunderstruck could develop into an Adelaide Cup type next year. |

I have him second rater, but surely granddukeoftuscany wins if he sows the form he did when runner up to Amelie's Star!
It is a good test for Thunderstruck to see where he sits, as Grandduke has group staying form. |

It was his 11th run this campaign, so maybe hes just had enough for 2017.
There will be plenty of suitable races for him in 2018. Maybe something like the Warrnambool Cup on a softer track than what he encountered yesterday. |

Well so much for my comment about suitable races in 2018. He’s been missing for over a year but returns in Race 2 at Pakenham today at 1600m.
Strikes me as more of a winter season stayer, preferring softer footing. But will be interesting to see what the Cameron’s do with him over the summer. |

Good chance to get back into the winners circle today at Sandown.
Last 4th beaten 2.6 Len behind Jinda was a welcome return to form & Jinda then won at Flemington on a Saturday at her next start to frank the result. The fave Wealthy Wolf is a promising young stayer but he’s had a very busy 3yo winter, so hoping that Ubin Thunderstruck is the fresher horse on the scene. |

Last start was the first time he’s shown anything for ages.
Lane on is a big help |
