Looking at the pedigrees of the 2yos in the 2nd at Echuca I was staggered by how good the Pentire colts pedigree is.

It did not dawn on me that he is a full brother to Prince Of Penzance Smile

Perhaps if I had known that I would not have backed him.

The Prince won his first race as a March 3yo over 1300m so perhaps a July 2yo can win over 1100m ? #The extra 9 metres might come in handy.

And if the form guide is correct, He is still a colt, so he is automatically 6 lengths better.

Hopefully they tell the trainer to kiss off.

I guess after yesterday the trainer will be arguing for the most overrated cut of all.

He’s been entered and scratched on race day quite a few times over the last month.

Scratched again from Pakenham today.

Hopefully it’s just a case of being patient in selecting the right race and not any injury niggles.

This is just a question djebel, and feel free to start a thread on this.

If you had a royally bred horse (which you had brought, not bred), would you geld the horse if he was not putting in his best effort?

If I am buying a horse from a sale, or a breeder to race, then I think as the owner I would do everything to get the best out of the race career. Having said that the race career might be a few years at most, compared to a breeding career of a decade or more.

There are a lot of variables which would go into this issue, but I am interested to know your reasoning why gelding well bred gallopers, who are not racing at their best should not happen.
Remember, it might take intelligence to be smart , but it takes experience to be wise

Was very unimpressive. Had my finger on the trigger to take $101 in the Derby and very quickly worked out he won't be doing any damage in this QLD Derby.

The extra 600 will obviously help but this is looking a pretty good Derby.

Sorry, I did not ignore this question I am just seeing it for the first time now.

I think too often horses seem to me to be gelded before they are tried over their proper journey and or before they are matured.

Tommy Smith and Kingston Town are the legendary example, His owner David Hains has been quoted as saying he regrets not giving Kingston Town more time before gelding him.

There could be any number of reasons horses are perceived not to be putting in.

Trainers have a vested interest in colts being gelded. I would be getting a 15th opinion before gelding.
