Didn't look like he hit the front until 100m on that dirty camera angle but on the tracker he was in front and travelling way faster than them at the 250m mark. Easy win.

Nice of Crownbet to let us on at black figures late. Boosted to $2.15 for some icing on the Torvill cake.

They really need to fix that camera tower. It's in a horrible position. I remember last year when the caller was saying the outside horses were leading heading towards the post and it looked like they were at least a length behind. Can't think of a worse video angle anywhere.

Yep good job MJB. I've only been watching intermittently and was gobsmacked when I saw $334K! Checked the winners then realised I had the pool total. LOL

For variety MJB try sauteing some chopped carrot, onion, celery, and red capsicum (assuming the wallet extends that far after a bad day on the punt LOL),  add it to the beans and simmer for 10 mins or so. Tasty, even better the next day cold on hot toast.

I might lash out on a couple of Kilo's of prawns after such a good week.

I've forgotten what class food tastes like.      This fillet can be substituted by old shoe boxes.

Hard to chew ,   even with my teeth in.

I’m starting to like Richard Freedman as a trainer, he seems to have a knack with stayers.
Seems as though he’s worked out Auvray.

He was particularly good 400-200. Put the race to bed. Then idled down last 200. Has a turn of foot at the end of 2000 - those ones normally make it.

He'd waltz in something like that. But you're right, that would be the conservative, logical next step if you want to take him through his grades before the deep end.

In the interview with Freedman, as well as wanting to ensure his rating doesn't follow the hype before the performances are delivered, he is very much thinking about next prep with the horse.

I think he'd love to campaign the horse in Melbourne over the spring and get him to those big open spaces of headquarters. Although it's at Caulfield, he's the perfect horse for a Coongy.

He's in Superb form (horse and trainer). Looks a caulfied Cups horse to me.

Dick Freedman should aim for 2400m stakes race in Syd or Bris.

Place in that and it'll qualify him for the spring races.

Would love to see him in the Doomben Cup, but sounds like the Brisbane Cup is the preferred option.

From Racenet. Very patient.

Richard Freedman and Roman Son’s upcoming targets

Roman Son has been Australia’s most talked about horse over the past week but his trainer Richard Freedman is keeping things low-key, at least for another run.

The four-year-old staying prospect was the best-backed runner around the nation on Saturday and duly delivered, recording an easy win in the Richmond Club Benchmark 84 Handicap (2100m) at the Hawkesbury stand-alone meeting.

Freedman said a six benchmark rating points penalty for the win was pleasing and has allowed him to find another suitable target before being forced to Queensland if he wanted to continue the campaign.

“They didn’t slug him as much as I expected with the ratings points for his win,” Freedman said.

“That penalty makes him an 84 rater and there’s a benchmark 85 race at Rosehill for him in three weeks.”

Roman Son is now likely to head to Rosehill on May 19 for the 2000m race rather than the Group III Chairman’s Handicap (2000m) at Doomben on May 12 or the Group III Premier’s Cup (2200m) at the same track on May 26.

“If we go to Queensland for one of the lead-up races they’ll smash his rating,” he said

“They are worth $125,000, I think it’s about $75,000 for the winner but if I go to Rosehill and he wins he earns about $55,000 in prizemoney but gets another $20,000 being BOBS Extra-eligible.

“So the earn is around the same and at worst I’m going to get six benchmark points because that’s what they’ve given him in his last two wins. It’s a no-brainer really.”

Freedman said the $300,000 Group II Brisbane Cup (2200m) at Doomben on June 9 remains the main goal this preparation.

“Provided he runs up to expectations next start he’ll then go north for the Brisbane Cup,” he said.

“Two more runs this prep will do him I’m thinking and one of the great things about this horse is he’s proven he performs when his runs are spaced.”

Roman Son was bred by the late Bart Cummings and is by his Australian Derby-winning stallion Roman Emperor out of the Cummings-trained Group III Lexus Stakes-placegetter Miss Meliss, which finished 10th in the 2002 Melbourne Cup, won by Media Puzzle.
