Plodimanjaro. Absolute slug.

Send him home, Lloyd. Even if you actually tried, this horse wouldn't win.

Bonfield was right. No acceleration off a moderate pace. Glad I looked on.

Funny that, have thought the same.

One could argue they have no idea given the money
spent.

So would many if they were buying horses that had already performed & had unlimited money.

His model is working for him, but he has the $'s.

Beau Mertens rode the race almost to perfection in my eyes yet was questioned about his ride??? Why was he questioned ? Stewards have obviously got too much time on hands.

Should be questioned about horse's performance but not his ride - agree with both. He gave it every hope but it's a slug that can't accelerate off a dawdle.

This is from the stewards report, nothing out of the ordinary here. The horse was pre-race blood tested but not post race tested.

Kilimanjaro (IRE) - apprentice Beau Mertens reported that his mount over-raced and was not suited by the tempo of todays event, which he felt was quite slow and added the gelding failed to run on as expected. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Owner Lloyd Williams is putting Kilimanjaro's Flemington defeat down to a lack of recent race experience and believes his lightly-raced grey can still be a contender at a higher level this spring.

Kilimanjaro was extremely popular with punters last Saturday, firming from $3 to $2.40 before finishing sixth behind Pacodali over 2000m.

It was only his second run in Australia and Williams is of the opinion he simply needs more racing to bring him on.

"He has only had two runs in two years, he needs more time," Williams said.

"He is a nice horse, I will be surprised if he isn't a good handicapper."

WATCH: Kilimanjaro's Flemington run

Williams explained that Kilimanjaro is likely to be seen again at the races in the next three-to-six weeks.

"Time helps, I will see how he is doing," he said.

"Patience is a must, it can be hard for an old fella like me but it is important."

2016 Melbourne Cup winner Almandin had a slow start to his spring campaign last year, finishing sixth at Moonee Valley in June before what appeared a hugely disappointing run at Flemington in the first week of August.

He then improved with a pleasing effort at Moonee Valley in the first week of September before winning the Listed Harry White Classic (2400m) at Caulfield on September 24 and The Bart Cummings (2500m) at Flemington on October 2.

Just a serviceable effort yesterday, but I guess he’s getting fitter and next run will be the make or break as to whether he’s a contender for bigger Spring staying races.

Will be having his first start for Ciaron on Saturday at Pakenham over 1600m.

Probably make a nice Tassie Cups + Adelaide Cup horse later this campaign.

Well this ex-Lloyd horse only had 1 run for Ciaron last year but he resumes today in the Gold Nugget Stks at Ballarat over 1600m.

He’s not entered for either of the big Spring Cups, but hopefully he can aim up to races like the Sandown or Pakenham Cups

This guy put in a really good run when 4th at Flemington last month over 2500m. I’d expected him to have bobbed up again somewhere by now.

Unfortunately I checked Racing Australia & he’s listed as Deceased 🙁
