It's funny. When people get the result they want from elections we hear from the media and individuals about the good sense of the electorate. When they don't the toys tend to come out of the cot, and we get a very different interpretation.

I went to high school in Queensland in the 1990s and call bullgelati on every aspect of your post. If any of that actually happened, that particular school failed, not the system as a whole. |

You are so arrogant and condescending towards the youth. You must be a dreadful teacher of kids in 2017. You sound like someone that should have retire years ago. |

Who is Joni Mitchell? How does the world work? Why did so many young people enrol to vote for this election? Do you hate kids, full stop, or just that so many see the world differently to you? |

And I am happy to be 42. Haven't yet worked out how to get younger, but my age doesn't mean I have to change my beliefs that I have had since I was at uni.
Also, so many old people making rash and short sighted decisions on many issues that don't affect them, or they will be long dead when consequences arise, that I find it inspiring to see the youth take more of a stand. I don't begin to think I am still a youth, just happy to stand beside them, rather than old grumps. |

Trying to respond to 3 posts at once, sub, but basically I care about people and what's right and wrong. I have no problem with the youth rebelling against the establishment - that's what they do,and what I did myself in my youth - but I don't like seeing them being taken for a ride and unwittingly doing their bit to bring on the Brave New World that used to be a dystopian vision of a brainwashed society. My catholic worldview has a lot to do with my opinions, yes, but it's also just a big facepalm that these poor young people are so badly educated (no history, no literacy, no thinking skills) that they'll support an idiotic extremist like Corbyn in such numbers just because katy perry and lily allen tell them it's a matter of life or death, for some reason. Ironically, it's the same way the baby boomers thought, and I think you'll agree that didn't work well. These empowered youth of today will be hated by the empowered youth of tomorrow. At least the baby boomers were about love and freedom - the current equivalent are about ego and anarchy. (And money.)

Calling Corbyn an idiotic extremist makes it difficult to take anything you say seriously.

you are an idiot and an ideological social misfit. remember when you trashed a whole country...??(america) . Now you are trashing the elderly. most people find older folk enlightening and great people to learn from. i certainly do, i love the company of the elderly and always have. what a principled, caring FAKE you are. |

corbyn isnt idiotic and an extremist? please. everything has moved so far right, economically- austerity and neoliberalism, that corbyns policies are deemed radical by the people who feel threatened by him. in reality, they arent radical at all. |

I enjoy the company of old people too, but would not agree with the vast majority of them politically.
I love America too, been there 3 times. Keep going with your own unique interpretation of things. Something you have perfected. |

Most of the oldies I have known are flat out racists and the older they are the more racist they are, or were, in the case of the departed.

The claim: Turnout surged among young voters - some are saying to 72% - which boosted Labour's performance in the election. Reality Check verdict: We do not yet have any reliable figures for turnout by different age groups. While it is true that seats with the highest proportions of 18 to 24-year-olds had above average swings to Labour, there are plenty of seats with big swings to Labour and low proportions of young people. And the article continues with -
The only five constituencies where the turnout increased by more than 10 percentage points were Hackney North, Hackney South and Ilford South in south-east England, and South Down and Foyle in Northern Ireland, all of which have pretty average populations between 18 and 24. But by all means keep beating "the Youths did it" drum.

My Nanna was extremely racist about black people but she liked Asians. If I had married an Afro American or Aboriginal she would have disowned me but if I had married a Japanese she would have payed for the wedding. Her nephew worked in PNG for a few years and to stir the old girls up- his mother was the same- he sent word before his return that he had married a native women- he even sent a photo. |

you just said you enjoy the company of the elderly. now you say most of your elderly contacts are racists - so no way in the world you would enjoy anything about those 'disgusting humans'. once someone doesnt agree with any of your positions in society, you write them off as terrible humans. not foolin anyone. fool. |

It's only gay marriage rights that I have said I would have a problem respecting someone that was against it, but again, keep taking what you want from what I say and interpreting it in your own special way....
