The bottom line is that betting won't have any bearing on what happens with Tommy on Saturday.

In for a penny, in for a pound.

I hope you are right, and it runs well. I see someone was spruiking it on another website, saying it was entitled to be much shorter odds than I think he mentioned, $34. Good luck.

Really happy with the run.

Began well but ended up back 9th in running following the early interference that put Black Hart Bart out of business, and only beaten 3 1/4 lengths.

Thanks for your kind words folks.

We greeted his win more with relief than elation, as he'd performed poorly the start before.  Was found to be lame in a hind hoof so was treated and had a bar plate fitted, however you're always a bit apprehensive after such a setback.

He'll progress to another Listed 2000m event in a fortnight and hopefully on to the Derby a further fortnight later.

Obviously disappointing he did not win but he was brave. Looked a brutal pace and he was the only one on it to be in the finish.

Thanks Djebel.  Thumbs Up

The winner was far too good, but with an ounce of good fortune we would've run 2nd.  Raced too fiercely up the straight the first time, and just when we got the A1 position one out one back the horse ahead of us took up the running and left us with no cover into a fierce headwind all the way down the back.  Then the leaders dropped dead on the turn and left us a sitting shot, so all things considered it wasn't surprising he got rather tired over the last 120m.

If he comes up ok will press on to the South Australian Derby in three weeks time and then head to the paddock for a well-earned spell.

He settled perfectly doing exactly as his jockey wanted. Unfortunately did not have the speed to come from that far back.

Good honest colt.

Super run considering the circumstances.
Have a feeling he will measure up over here in the Spring.

Good luck SC and team.

Thanks for your kind comments guys.  Thumbs Up

Our jockey was instructed to seek a midfield position with cover but instead immediately dropped him back to last, and knew before they left the straight the first time around that we were no chance at all.

Still last turning for home, 15-odd lengths off the leader, and made up 10 1/2 lengths on the leaders over the last 300m.  Can't confirm, however the trainer said his last sectional was the quickest of the 16 starters, just better than High 'n' Dry and significantly faster than the rest.  Which is cold comfort, given most of us believe he would have been right in the finish had he been able to settle as instructed.  Interestingly, we tried to get Damian Lane for the ride before Leicester won a fortnight ago, however he wouldn't commit until after the Chairman's Stakes.

Tommy's already in the paddock in SA for a fortnight before being trucked back to WA where he'll have a further month off.  No Eastern states campaign in the Spring, but will instead be aimed for the 1600m Railway Stakes and 1800m Kingston Town Classic at Gp 1 level late November/early December.

the usual thinking is unless you are going to breed, you geld. or does it enhance his race type?

He's been rather honest for a colt so he's not thinking of other things Isaac and he is also the 8f female line (a different line to the Dancing Show one) so an interesting cross of sire and dam from the same family.  Bit like that Time Thief mare who won her first stakes at the weekend and who is undefeated so far.  Nothing much close in her pedigree but the female line is one of the best around and double up proved very good indeed.

Money Maher's second dam is full sister to a G1 winner who had progeny sell up to $1,000,000 so is still a pedigree with upgrade ability.  So yes he may not go to stud at Arrowfield or co but a little stud in WA may benefit from his pedigree base.

The colt has a very even temperament so there's no need to geld at this stage.  He'll race as a entire in Perth this late Spring/early Summer and we'll take a decision about gelding or otherwise after that campaign.

He's raced in two Gp 1's and been ordinarily ridden in both, and both trainers believe there's a Group 1 or Group 2 in him if things fall his way.  And you'd appreciate there's a significant market in WA for a Group winning grandson of Danehill from a very strong female family, particularly now that Blackfriars is no longer with us.

From Pearce Racing:

We regret to inform you that Money Maher sustained an injury in Saturday's Group 1 SA Derby at Morphetville when rocketing home from the tail of his 16-horse field to finish a commendable seventh. Rider Jarrad Noske reported that the colt had never felt better on his way to the barriers and during the run and he felt he would have played a part in the finish if he had've drawn a low barrier, however, sadly it was not to be.

Money Maher pulled up really well in himself immediately after the race, however, he was found to have some swelling to his off-fore leg the next morning. After treating the swelling for a couple of days it still hadn't subsided so we elected to have the leg scanned. Unfortunately it has shown a slight tear to the colt's medial suspensory ligament, likely sustained when he was checked in running during the race.

Money Maher will now require two weeks of box rest before he has the leg re-scanned and that scan will determine how long his rehabilitation will be. The bad news is that he is likely to need about four months in the paddock before a slow build-up into his next preparation, which will mean that he is effectively ruled out from racing over the spring carnival and most likely for the remainder of 2018.

The good news is that suspensory injuries usually have quite a good prognosis and we have had plenty of success with horses who have sustained this injury and returned to win races.

The ownership group must now also decide whether we keep Money Maher as an entire or have him gelded. It is difficult to become a genuine stallion prospect unless you win highly-rated Group races as a two or three-year-old so, in our opinion, we feel it would be best to geld him when he returns to Perth and then give him a good break. However, this decision will be made by the ownership group. Please let us know your thoughts regarding this.

Equally I am pissed off the trainer suggests gelding him just for the bloody sake of it. sweethearts.

if the trainer wants to geld he is probably not confident he will be a sire.

Bear in mind, Special Bond did stand briefly in wa, and was not successful, so opinions of your horse, if he were to stand in wa, may be coloured by this.
