That was a very good win.

1:22.86 and the final 600 was about the same as all the "good horses" did on the day.

Thumbs Up

Hi everyone.  Thanks for all your congratulations.  Thumbs Up

It certainly was a big thrill for us, and it looks like we'll be heading over to Perth to see the colt go around in the WA Guineas on Saturday week.

Here's the link if you'd like to watch the race replay:  http://www.rwwa.com.au/cris/default.aspx

After typing that in and opening the site, proceed down to "WA meeting details" and use the pop down menu to find 11/11/2017 Ascot and hit "display meeting".  Then go to Race 5 and hit the arrow button on the far right for the replay.

Thanks Tuddy.  The mare is much improved and was served by Palentino last weekend.  Here's an article that appeared in the Thoroughbreds Breeders Victoria weekly e-news:

The Prices are right for Western Wonder

POSTED NOVEMBER 14, 2017 | LEAVE A COMMENT
Allan and Cheryl Price bred Fairetha wins the Fairetha Stakes in Perth

Saturday’s WATC Fairetha Stakes in Perth for three-year-olds was taken out in brilliant fashion by Money Maher giving Wangaratta breeders Allan and Cheryl Price every reason to celebrate.

A distant tenth at the 400 metre mark, the colt reeled in the opposition and was eased down to win the Listed event by two lengths in the extremely fast time of 1.22. 86.

The story began when Allan purchased Financial Rescue, a sister to AJC Oaks winner Panama City, for just $3,000 at an Inglis broodmare sale in 2003.  Financial Rescue would go on to produce four foals for the Prices, including city winners Cash Advance and Treasury Notes.

On retirement to the breeding farm, Treasury Notes was served by Al Maher and Money Maher was the resultant foal.

He was offered through the draft of Leanne Smith’s Bucklee Farm at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale in 2016 and sold for $58,000 to young West Australian trainer Ben Pearce.

The Prices fortunately bought back a ten per cent share in the colt and have thus enjoyed both breeding and racing the promising young stakes-winner.

The Pearces set Money Maher for the WATC Sires Produce Stakes as a two-year-old and he didn’t disappoint in finishing a close third.

The colt was then immediately spelled with the 2017 Perth summer carnival in mind, and now looms as a major chance in upcoming the $500,000 Group 2 WATC Guineas.

Money Maher was the second stakes-winner bred by the Prices who began a small breeding operation on 45 acres just outside Wangaratta in 2003.

The other stakes winner for them was the dual stakes-winner Justify That (King Of Prussia – Duty With Honour), winner of 13 races and $520,000 in prizemoney.

“It’s been a financial, physical, and emotional challenge at times, but producing two stakes-winners from just thirteen foals of racing age is certainly an incentive to keep hanging in there,” Allan said.

Money Maher’s dam Treasury Notes has a striking yearling filly by young Riverbank Farm sire Skilled, and was recently served by Sun Stud’s Group 1 winning first-season sire Palentino.

Meanwhile Justify That’s dam Duty With Honour currently has a yearling colt from the first crop of Group winner Cluster who stands at Neville Murdock’s Larneuk Stud at Euroa.

The Prices give a lot of credit to local farms in North East Victoria.

“Over the last decade or so we’ve had horses served, agisted or prepared for sale at Barbara Ivill’s Little Plains Stud, Laurie and John McCarthy’s Greta West Stud, and more recently at Leanne Smith’s Bucklee Farm,” Allan said.

“They’ve all been terrific and we can’t recommend them highly enough.”

Best of luck today SEcond Chance and Run For Fun. I legitimately though you were just blowing your own trumpet and spruiking your own breeding with Money Maher, but you definitely have a good youngster, with an explosive turn of foot. I can see now why you have always rated him so highly. Hope he wins for you today, and there are plenty of good times ahead 👍

Hi folks, we're back from WA now, and thanks for the additional best wishes.

Unfortunately we made the 6,500 km round trip only to have the jockey suffer a bad case of brain fade.  After being instructed to ensure the colt settled mid-field with cover, he instead simply allowed Tommy to drift back to last and then pulled about 15-wide at the 400m mark in an attempt to pass the other 15 runners in the straight.  The horse was brave enough but needed to run the last 800m in about 45 1/2 seconds to win which was clearly beyond him, and I'd given up the ghost well before they turned for home.  But that's racing.

The colt pulled up really well which was hardly surprising given he'd only worked over the last half of the race, so he may well go around in a 1400m Listed 3yo event on 11 December.

We were obliged to down burgers and warm beer at Greasy Joe's after the race Bill, but after our spirits lifted spent a couple of days in Fremantle where we enjoyed fresh seafood washed down with Margaret River riesling and Tassie sparkling on harbour's edge.  And really enjoyed visits to the two maritime museums.  Thumbs Up

Just for your own interest, we found the cost of riding in taxis quite reasonable, and the drivers were always pleasantly thankful when they copped our modest tip.

But exciting times mate, Tommy has gained a start in the $1,000,000 Kingston Town Classic on Saturday!  We've a new (and hopefully improved) jockey, will start about 66/1 but he's on a win to nothing and providing he gallops ok tomorrow will hock one of the daughters once again and fly across for the race.

No real expectations but it'll be a huge thrill just to be there.

SC, your horse must have finished up inflated odds on Betfair, late, I see the Betfair SP ran at $10.2, much shorter everywhere else. My suggestion, BYO jockey.

Seriously, SC, a horse starts around $6 generally everywhere in a major race, and the stewards aren't interested in why it SP's $10 on Betfair ? The wild west indeed.

I’ve opened this thread for the first time this morning and it’s been great to read of the success for a couple of long term forum contributors.
Long may it continue. Seems like a promising one who has already delivered nicely.

You're probably right Lopartega.  4th would be tremendous and something better would probably be rather too much to realistically expect.

The plan is to be positive from the start, and from barrier 2 attempt to settle/sit right outsideBlack Heart Bart which has drawn the rails and will likely be aiming to race about three pairs back with some favored horses who've drawn wide working hard to lead or settle on the pace.

All very well in theory, but no-one really knows how it'll actually pan out.

Drifted from $4.20 to $6.50 on track also.

Maybe thay knew that Noske would screw up, just like he did in almost exactly the same fashion a week later on Rock Magic in the Winterbottom.  Dead

$10 ( Betfair) is extremely "knowing". Way too much knowing. The stewards should have been all over it like a rash, but someone posted a story about a dodgy race at Geraldton recently, where stewards indicated they would be checking Betfair and corporates for betting trends. One would have thought they'd have known that meeting was not covered by either Betfair or the corps, so they are clearly not that much on the ball over there.
