I disagree. I think Michael Hibberd has been the best addition but I would also add in Bradley Hill, Jarryd Lyons and Nankervis.

Nankervis is ok, but he got smoked by Sinclair and Naismith last week. Easy to understand why we got rid of him.
Hill has been very good, Lyons is a decent player in a bad team, nothing more.
Tom Mitchell and Tuohy will be the only ones around the money in the AA team, I would think.

Whilst the others mentioned are still relative youngsters.

Maybe we could start a thread where we nominate our Team of the (traded) Year?

Do it. Can we include Ryder in that list, as this is his first actual playing season for Port and I would have him clearly number 1 ruck ahead of Nankervis?

You can't include Ryder as this is not his first year playing for Port Adelaide, he was there the year before the suspensions. The query would be on Carlisle and Melksham.

With Nankervis it depends on how you are judging it. He is an enormous upgrade on what they had at the position, and he has had a very good season (even if he has been a little down the last couple).
I think Lyons is much better than 'decent' but due to him playing at Gold Coast (and Adelaide before that) does not get the recognition he deserves.

A quick pass:

Hibberd (Melb)            Hamling (Freo)            Tuohy (Cats)

Hanley (GC)               Marchbank (Carl)        Lewis (Melb)

Hill (Freo)                    Prestia (Rich)              Lyons (GC)

Hoskin-Elliott (Coll)     Stewart (Ess)              Caddy (Rich)

Kersten (Freo)            McCarthy (Freo)          Hrovat (Nth)

Nankervis (Rich)        T.Mitchell (Haw)           S.Mitchell (WC)

Steele (St K)              Witts (GC)                    Stevens (St K)        Williams (Nth)

Others: Smedts, Pickett, Palmer (Carl), McKenna (Melb), Cloke (Dogs), Vardy (WC), Black (Geel), Frost (Bris), Dunn (Coll), O'Meara (Haw), Deledio (GWS)

If you were to include Free Agents then Wells (Coll), Henderson (Haw), Barlow (GC), Brown (St K) and Green (ESS) would be considered, although injuries would be a problem for 2 of them.

Good that you had Witts in there. He has been excellent for Gold Coast this season and I would actually have him leading the ruck.

An absolutely disgraceful decision by the tribunal last night. Surely the AFL will appeal.

Smart from Richmond. This was the tribunal, not the MRP, character references are used in all courts of law, never to exonerate blame, but to reduce sentence.
Like it or not, watch other clubs do it now.

The other point is that they pleaded not guilty to intentional but guilty to careless, which would have given him a 2 week suspension, lost and yet received the same penalty.

Hopefully Bugg played his last game of AFL tonight. Not in Melbourne's best 22, 6 game ban coming up. Thug

What he did is indefensible and he will be suspended accordingly but to hope that he has played his last game and to call him a 'thug' is a bit over the top.

What he did was not quite as bad as what Barry Hall did, although in the same realm, and he has never been suspended before for anything. He is a 'pest' but he is not a 'thug'.
He is highly regarded around the playing group and I would expect him to work his way back after serving his time.

Is he in Melbourne's best 22? Melbourne have been unable to play their 'best 22' in any game this year so it is probably a moot point but for argument sake if you look at the 22 who played on the weekend Melbourne were missing 6 players who are without doubt 'best 22' (unfortunately for Melbourne they are also 'best 10').
At the bottom end of the team that played on Friday you have White, Wagner, Stretch, Neal-Bullen, Melksham, Harmes, Pederson and Hannan. That is 8 players, 9 when including Bugg. Of those 8 I would say that Hannan is definitely ahead of Bugg and Peterson has played better than Bugg although is vulnerable due to team balance.
I do not think there is a huge difference between Bugg and the likes of Harmes, Melksham and Neal-Bullen. The question mark is a guy like Dean Kent but his work rate is atrocious.

So in summary while Bugg is by no means a star I do think he brings enough to the table to suggest that he is a fringe 'best 22' player and I would actually have him as one of the last picked in Melbourne's best side if everyone was available, a problem that seems a long way away for the Demons.

I sure can put the slows on a teamLOL

Unbelievable the transition that's come over this team in the past few weeks. Hard not to link it with that Carlton game. Their behaviour toward Murphy was a disgrace, and they rightly copped a media flogging. No spirit since.

Even in a year as weird as this one what to make of this mob? They were incredible last night.
