Don’t know why you’re so bitter oneone.
I doubt it’s the franking credits that’s got you kicking the cat.
You feeling sad that the homophobes and the racists are being banished to the opposition benches.
That should be a good thing,if your not one surely?

Here you go ... an opportunity to learn something!Big smile

Just the facts from an impartial observer ... the guy who caught Mr Bowen in his web of deception and lies!Embarrassed

He doesn't like Negative Gearing either ... but he recognises a fraud and an economic illiterate when he sees one ... oh, and since he was exposed and admitted to using Fake Data, Mr Bowen has refused to fix the revenue predictions or apologise ... it's the Labor way! ... because it's "fairer" to just stick to the lie.Clap

Doc, is that the same negative gearing Morrison told his party room mates was unsustainable?

Mind you he was new to this Treasurer stuff at the time and telling the truth. Before the Cayman mates club set him straight, warning him there is no place for the truth in the modern Faux Lieberal Party.

Unclear whether it is a Bob bump or just the Libs staying on their descent into oblivion trajectory.

Lower house won’t count.
Libs 1.01 in that electorate.

Meanwhile, the Mad Monk is blowing like a gale 2.95 with Sportsbet.
Interesting tactic of his, to refuse interviews.
Must know he will undoubtedly hurt his chances by opening his mouth.

He literally scurries away at the sight of cameras.

I think the Libs are a better chance of winning than Abbott.

He is very definitely seen as yesterday’s man.
And he’s had a bad last week.
The skirmish with Molan was a negative, and then his press release about Hawke was a reminder of what a dick he is.

Maybe tho oldies from Allambie to Forestville will keep it respectable, but he’s deadset poison everywhere else.

I wouldn’t back him with stolen money.
I’m pretty happy with my 2.40 on Zali.

Bill's mates at "The Top End of Town" have totally lost it!Embarrassed

Had to laugh - he used a "cork screw" - on his way home to crack a nice bottle of '86 Grange, and just thought he would lose his gelati on a young Tony Abbott volunteer?Cry

Video at the link is good.

KPMG partner pleads guilty to stabbing Abbott volunteer

The Daily Telegraph reports today:

A senior partner in global tax firm KPMG’s Sydney office has pleaded guilty to stabbing one of Tony Abbott’s campaign workers with a corkscrew on the eve of the federal election.

Stavros Economides, known as Steven, poked 31-year-old Jonathan Malota with the corkscrew after earlier threatening teenager Rafe Harrison-Murray, 18, as they were putting up election posters outside a school at Balgowlah Heights.

Police said Economides, 62, attacked the men — both volunteers — about 8pm on May 17 and tore down the posters before running from the school.

Mr Malota told The Sunday Telegraph the following day they had been putting the final posters up on the edge of the school when they were confronted by a man “who looked like he was power walking past.”

“But then he did a quick turn, stepped on the retaining wall and said … take that sign down.” The volunteers alleged the man told them it was independent candidate Zali Steggall’s territory and began ripping down the Liberal campaign posters.

Police arrested the tax consultant at a home in nearby Balgowlah Heights within hours and charged him with two counts of common assault.

He is on bail and due to appear in Manly Court for sentencing on July 4.

Economides has been a partner in KPMG’s Sydney offices since 1987.

KPMG declined to comment when contacted by The Daily Telegraph on Wednesday night.

Ms Steggall, who toppled Mr Abbott in the seat of Warringah, later described the incident as “appalling” but said she did not believe the culprit was linked to her campaign.

Zali is an irrelevance. They can forget their "tunnel" - Zali will be lucky if she can get a coat of paint for the surf club!

She is just keeping the seat warm for the next small L Liberal candidate - just like Dr Phelps did in Wentworth.

Chinese connections haunt smooth operator

The deputy mayor of Ryde City Council in Sydney’s northwest has confirmed he attended an eight-day training course in China shortly before his political career started that was funded by a powerful arm of Beijing’s Communist Party leadership.

Simon Zhou, an Australian citizen with close links to exiled Chinese billionaire and suspected foreign agent Huang Xiangmo, said the course was “normal”.

He had no concerns it was a form of party indoctrination because he was taking part in a lesson on “Chinese history”.

“I left China when I was only 19 years old so I lacked experience and knowledge about the country,” Mr Zhou told The Australian.

“So I was curious to find out how the economy of an overseas country like China was developing so quick. I wanted to learn more about it and find out whether there is any mutual benefit for my country, Australia.

“I would love to attend another.”

Speaking about his experience for the first time, Mr Zhou said he attended the course representing the Australian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China, a Sydney-based Chinese community organisation headed by property developer Mr Huang before his residency visa was rescinded a year ago.

Mr Huang now lives in Hong Kong, unable to return to Australia following ASIO advice to the Morrison government that he was a “foreign interference” security risk aligned with Beijing. The Australian Taxation Office is also chasing him over a $140m tax debt.

Mr Zhou said he attended the course in China shortly before being picked as a candidate for the unwinnable seventh spot on NSW Labor’s Senate ticket for the 2016 federal election.

He had been working part-time as “multicultural affairs director” for the NSW ALP’s head office and his name was added to the ticket by then party secretary Kaila Murnain, most likely on the recommendation of then senator Sam Dastyari.

“It helped Labor get Chinese votes,” Mr Zhou recalled.

He knew Mr Dastyari well, having been introduced to Labor by Ernest Wong, who Mr Zhou said he met when he was a young university student.

Mr Wong, a prolific fundraiser for NSW Labor and former Burwood councillor, was elevated to the state upper house in May 2013, taking the seat of Eric Roozendaal, who quit and went to work for Mr Huang’s Yuhu Group. Mr Zhou met Mr Huang through Mr Wong.

Mr Zhou told The Australian he and Mr Huang had remained friends since his exile and communicated using WeChat. He last saw the billionaire in March in the lobby of a Hong Kong hotel.

“I could meet him again,” Mr Zhou said.

The 36-year-old said he became concerned about the China course he attended as an executive vice-president of Mr Huang’s ACPPRC when he saw news reports it was run by Beijing’s United Front Work Department.

“The international political environment has become so sensitive,” he told The Australian.

The NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption heard in sworn evidence this year that Mr Huang’s former interpreter, Tim Xu, accepted his former boss’s ACPPRC was a “front” for the Chinese Communist Party.

But Mr Zhou said he had a different experience, believing Mr Huang’s organisation was “not much different from other registered non-profit associations” and recalled social events such as a lunar new year event at Sydney Opera House: “People were happy and the performances were high quality. I miss that political environment of a few years ago.”

There was a lot to miss. Mr Huang was riding high then as a big political donor to Australia’s main parties but his relationship with Mr Dastyari became especially close and would be the undoing of both, starting with the 2015 revelation that Mr Huang had paid a personal legal bill for Mr Dastyari. Quid pro quo or not, Mr Dastyari had voiced support for Beijing’s territorial claims in the South China Sea, at odds with his party’s policy. The Labor senator’s career came to a swift end when it was further revealed he warned Mr Huang he was under intelligence surveillance.

Mr Zhou encountered his own woes. With much fanfare, he had started a gold trading company called Australian Gold and Silver Exchange AGSX, based in Sydney’s old Dymock’s building, working closely with business associate and friend Chris Wang.

Both were named in an Administrative Appeals Tribunal decision in February 2017 over a $143m gold-trading scandal.

The ATO demanded $20m in unpaid taxes from Mr Wang and $2.54m from Mr Zhou, alleging they had entered into a “sham” arrangement buying pure gold that was exempt from GST, then selling it as melted-down gold and claiming a tax input credit.

The tax ruling was highly critical, branding some of Mr Wang’s evidence “fanciful” including his claimed practice of using cash to buy millions of dollars of pure gold at late-night meetings in Sydney suburban car parks.

Mr Zhou told The Australian he remained in dispute with the ATO over $2.54m in tax it claimed from one of his companies, Australian Coin Exchange or ACX, which collapsed following the scandal. Mr Zhou also defended Mr Wang, saying he conducted business in car parks for the “security” of the gold.

Asked how he began as a gold trader, Mr Zhou said funds came mostly from another company he had run some years earlier in his bedroom, Coin Club of Australia. He said no funding came from Mr Huang, directly or indirectly, because “I did not know Mr Huang at the time”.

Why then did Mr Huang attend AGSX’s launch in Sydney’s Dymocks building?

“He was invited as a Chinese community leader,” Mr Zhou said.

The collapse of Mr Zhou’s ACX, his tax battle and reports he and associates had donated $140,000 to the NSW ALP had other ramifications. He was forced out of his Labor job and quit the party in June 2017.

Mr Zhou next bobbed up as a successful independent candidate in Ryde Council’s September 2017 elections. He wasted little time, cutting a numbers deal to re-elect Labor mayor Jerome Laxale and become his deputy. But the Huang connection followed him, with opponents accusing him of doing the property developer’s bidding.

While denying any wrongdoing, Mr Zhou has come under pressure to explain why he did not declare a 5 per cent stake in a Huang-owned development at Pymble, on Sydney’s north shore, when elected to Ryde Council.

At the same time, it was considering an application by Mr Huang’s Yuhu Group for a $100m-plus redevelopment of the Eastwood shopping centre.

Although Mr Zhou did not take part in the final approval vote, he was part of earlier deliberations. The matter has been referred to ICAC but Mr Zhou told The Australian he “forfeited” his $4m stake in the Pymble project before joining Ryde Council by transferring it to his mother and then to a family trust, where it remained. He told The Australian his Pymble stake came from “business”.

“I was never given it for free,” he said. While half the stake was in a company called Zymble, the other half belonged to his gold-business friend Mr Wang.

Mr Zhou said he now wanted to devote himself “full time” as a Ryde councillor even though the position was unpaid apart from an annual $25,000 stipend.

Asked how he could afford to spend $60,000 on his council election campaign, $500 a week rent for an electoral office in Eastwood and employ former AGSX staff Ste Lin and Lucy Lui as assistants, Mr Zhou said he used his “own funds”. Asked how he could afford a $2.2m home and another $2.1m spread at Dural, Mr Zhou said he had paid himself a salary while at AGSX, invested wisely and his ability to borrow funds should not be underestimated.

Mr Huang remains a keen subject of interest to ICAC as it investigates the allegation he made an illegal $100,000 donation to the NSW ALP after a Chinese Friends of Labor dinner in 2015 that was later covered up, in a scheme masterminded by Mr Wong, with “fake” $5000 cash donations.

A year later, Mr Zhou, his wife Min Wu, and gold-business friends Mr Wang, Filip Shu and Ste Lin each donated sums of $5000 in cash at that year’s Chinese Friends of Labor dinner. Mr Zhou told The Australian the donations from himself and his wife were properly declared and he thought the same was true for others.

Federal Court rules in favour of live exporters in landmark class action against Commonwealth Government

Northern Australian cattle producers are celebrating after the Federal Court today ruled a 2011 live export ban imposed by the Commonwealth was unlawful.

Key points:

  • The Federal Court rules the 2011 live cattle export ban was unlawful
  • The ruling is a win for the 300-strong class action against the Commonwealth
  • The Court found Brett Cattle is entitled to compensation from the Commonwealth

The 300-strong class action started in 2014, seeking $600 million in compensation for lost income as a result of the ban.

After 18 months of deliberation, Justice Steven Rares ruled former agriculture minister Joe Ludwig acted with misfeasance when the then Gillard government introduced the ban.

In delivering his judgment, Justice Rares said the ban order was "capricious" and "unreasonable".

He said:

"I am comfortably satisfied, based on the whole of the evidence, that the minister was recklessly indifferent as to first, the availability of his power to make the Ban Order in its absolutely prohibitory terms without providing any power of exception and, secondly, as to the injury which the order, when effectual, was calculated to produce.

Accordingly, the minister committed misfeasance in public office when he made the Ban Order on June 7, 2011."

Class-action spokeswoman Tracey Hayes said the ban was "an attack on the industry by our own Commonwealth" that "inflicted a decade of pain" on the lead plaintiffs Emily Brett and her late husband Dougal.

"The truth is, the shutdown was not required," Ms Hayes said.

"To enact the changes needed in some offshore facilities, it simply was not necessary."

She said farmers' livelihoods would not have been hit had "calmer heads prevailed".

Ms Hayes also pleaded with the Commonwealth to not proceed with an appeal against today's decision.https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-06-02/federal-court-live-export-class-action-ruling/12308388
