What about that rich dude that took a yatch load on a happy trip all the way up the coast, from Melb to Bris, stopping in at 3 or 4 places, including Yamba , where they spent a week. And Lindsay Fox and family moving into their holiday home on the beach/Gold Coast I think. Not to mention the 400 football hangers-on flown in and set up in luxury .

No-one takes responsibility for failures these days, as they say, it is an orphan, but success has many fathers. Even the Nazis had more principle, after heavy combat on the Eastern Front in 1943, the commander of the SS Division "Totenkopf", reported to his superior that his force was "no more", and having failed in his mission, proceeded to shoot himself. Not that anyone expects that, but the silence is deafening from those involved in the Melbourne fiasco.

In a way, it was never going to be easy to contain it, regardless who the security people were, any kind of close contact was a risk, but according to some reports, hubba-hubba was involved, there really needs to be prosecutions.

If those eight cabinet fools had not hired those security firms, who employed those foolish security guards the virus would have been contained.

Yes, you are right the gang of eight cabinet ministers in the Andrews government all are Melburnians. They are the fools who stuffed up hotel quarantine of returning travellers where 99% of the virus escaped into the community. Once they became aware of that disaster they imposed the tougher restrictions, but by then the horse had bolted.

It seems to me, from the outside, that Melbournians brought the tougher restrictions down on themselves by not complying to basic requests
Am I wrong?

Here is further evidence the Andrew's government is out of its depth.
A. The public holiday on Grand Final Eve, introduced a few years ago as vote catcher prior to an state election by the Andrews government for Melburnians to see the Grand Final parade is still gazetted, despite that Melbourne is in lockdown and the Grand Final is being played in Brisbane. B.Victorians will have been forced to endure one of the longest COVID-19 lockdowns in the world if the current restrictions are extended beyond September 13. The period of the stage three and four rules enforced under the state’s second wave will be 67 days long by the time any easing is possible after September 13. That follows the first eight week period of restrictions enforced earlier this year from March to May. The Victorian lockdowns are equivalent or even longer than some of the hardest-hit European nations such as Belgium (seven weeks), France (eight weeks), Spain (eight weeks) and Russia (five to six weeks). Some of those nations, such as Spain, are also facing a second wave with restrictions being reintroduced to quell the spread. Every country has introduced its own variation on lockdowns with differing limits on business activity and people’s movements. |

I am not saying that. Andrews has gone over the top, have a look at the way the NSW government has managed the virus. Sure, they do not have as many positives, but could you imagine a pregnant woman in NSW could be handcuffed for posting on facebook, yet thousands could attend a BLM rally and that same police force could only arrest five people. A bloke the other day was questioned at 9.30 pm by the cops as to why he was putting his own rubbish bin out for the next morning's collection, as he was breaking the night time curfew. In years to come a new version of the that old book Believe It Or Not , will have future generations rolling in laughter.

Yes the economic and social affects are quite seroius.
Bob's answer would presumably be to return everything to "normal" asp, thereby causing a third wave with thousands of deaths.

Max, unless you live in Melbourne you do not know the effect this state of disaster is having on Melburnian lives. People in glass houses should not throw stones.

If anyone needs any further evidence of a government that has lost its way one need go no further than the effect the lockdowns imposed by the Andrews ALP government are having in Victoria.
I could go one forever about the economic cost to business but just look at the social effect in Melbourne. No Grand Final, No Royal Melbourne Show, No Easter, No Mother's Day, No Father's Day, No Australian Open ( 50/1 against ), No Comedy Festival, night time curfew from 8 pm to 5 am, only one hour exercise per day, only one family member can go shopping , the list is endless. Well done Dan you have trashed not only Melbourne but the whole state. Can you imagine with the passing by the crossbench in the Upper House of a six month extension to Dan's "state of disaster" this "dictatorship " will continue into 2021. It goes without comment how police, under Dan's draconian current state of emergency, could arrest a pregnant women in pyjamas, in her own home, put handcuffs on her in front of her children for naively posting on facebook an anti-lockdown protest. |

Baghdad "hypocritical double standards"
Victorian Labor minister Adem Somyurek was fired and expelled by the Labor Party after accusations of "industrial-scale" branch stacking. Somyurek was heavily condemned by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, stating that his "conduct and comments" were "completely deplorable, they are shameful and … there is no place in my government for him". Morrison commented that: "Albanese has been totally burnt by this scandal ... We’re fighting for jobs, they’re fighting each other." However, when it came to commenting on the Bastiaan episode, Morrison said, hypocritically: "This is an organisational matter for the Victorian division of the party." He also ignored any implications for Sukkar and Andrews, allowing them to duck any direct responsibility by referring the matter to the Department of Finance for an "independent review" of their staffing arrangements. In view of my concern about the infiltration of the Thousand Talents Plan in Australian universities it is food for thought about the overnight arrest in the USA.. "A professor at a Texas University who had access to NASA’s space secrets has been arrested on conspiracy charges for hiding his affiliation with China’s Talents program. Zhengdong Cheng, who had access to research conducted on the International Space Station, is said to have hidden his connections to China from his Texas A&M University and also from NASA. “Zhengdong Cheng knowingly deceived NASA officials about his association with Chinese-owned companies and universities, willingly accepted US government funding, and defrauded his university,” said assistant director Alan Kohler Jr of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division. “The FBI is committed to aggressively pursuing those individuals who try and undercut our US research institutions and government agencies by concealing their participation in Chinese talent recruitment programs and to hold them accountable for their actions.” Assistant Attorney-General for National Security John Demers said: “Once again, we have witnessed the criminal consequences that can arise from undisclosed participation in the Chinese government’s talent program. “The Department of Justice will continue seeking to illuminate the darkness around these talent programs and expose the exploitation of our nation and our prized research institutions.” The arrest comes after The Australian on Monday revealed that dozens of Australian scientists were involved with China’s Thousand Talents plan, amid growing concern here and in the US about academics secretly helping China to further its scientific and economic growth. Professor Cheng, 53, was arrested this week on criminal charges of conspiracy, making false statements and wire fraud after authorities said he repeatedly lied about his connections to China." |

You think Costello has something to do with 60 Minutes sudden interest in Victorian factional politics?

The story was aired on the Peter Costello run NINE Network as a joint 60 Minutes/Fairfax investigation.
Fancy Costello at odds with Kroger, and their Liberal factional feuds still playing out and now spilling into our lounge rooms on a Sunday night.

That story was an "exclusive" in the Fairfax Press and most likely the story had not been published in the Fairfax Press before the Country Edition of The Herald Sun, was dispatched to the provinces. For the same reason there was nothing in the Fairfax Press about the scientists in Australian universities signing up to the Chinese government's Thousand Talents Plan that was an "exclusive " in The Australian newspaper. I know which of those two stories that worries the most and it ain't one about an unknown trying to branch stack a political party.

Victorian Liberal Party launches investigation into party memberships, leaked tape reveals Michael Kroger spruiking Marcus Bastiaan’s recruitment effortsAllegations of branch-stacking levelled at the Victorian Liberals have resulted in a forensic audit of party memberships. It comes as a leaked recording has emerged of former Victorian Liberal president Michael Kroger spruiking the recruitment tactics of key powerbroker Marcus Bastiaan. |
