Jamal,

Here is one you need to add to your list : the 1928 Caulfield Cup winner Maple (1923 mare Roosendale (GB) - Honeywood)

She also won :

1926 WATC Strickland Stakes
1926 WATC Derby
1927 WATC St Leger
1927 WATC CB Cox Stakes
1927 WATC Strickland Stakes

before coming East to the stable of Jack Holt for whom she won the Caulfield Cup before returning West to win the 1928 WATC CB Cox Stakes.

She was owned by Ernest Lee Steere who bought her from the Sydney sales for 280 guineas. Lee Steere was also the owner of Eurythmic.

I replied with: "Let's see how Boom Time's spring campaign pans out"

Hopefully Boom Time runs well on the weekend and all of the other WA horses too

See comment above, I'm looking back on m friend's commen in regards to Boom Time. Hindsight is a wonderful thing of course. Maybe what my friend said is correct..who knows...its hyperthetical....the two horses will never race against each other.

Jamal,

Another feature race win on the east coast yesterday for a WA horse, COUGAR EXPRESS winning the Victorian Grand National Hurdle.

Born & bred in WA, had his first start at Collie in south-western WA, took 12 starts to break his maiden at Mt Newman in the east Pilbara region and went onto win the Listed Bunbury Cup & Pinjarra Cup.

Now 2 years after those black type wins, he’s won a Vic GN Hurdle. Well done

I am having therapy to get over that.

I have too many of his horses to follow to stay on the wrong side of him.

This WA horse (TRAP FOR FOOLS) has been nominated for the Cups. It won at Moonee Valley in August. Nicely bred.

Nice win by Trap For Fools.

G3 Naturalsim Stakes (2000m) or G3 JRA Cup (2040m) could be options going forward

Yep sure did. My only issue is that he is an on pace horses. I guess I'm from the Bart school as in I like horses to be ridden quieter. On pace horses are always candidates to be sittin ducks with 100m to go.

But it would he nice for a WA stayer to do well. Mind you Boom Time was a WA stayer with moderate form in WA and ended up winning a Caulfield Cup. So we will wait and see how things pan out for Trap For Fools.

Interesting breeding sidelight for you Jamal.

TRAP FOR FOOLS grand dam is a full sister to the 1988 Perth Cup winner LINC THE LEOPARD. After his Perth Cup win connections sent him to George Hanlon in Victoria for a crack at the 1989 Melbourne Cup. He didn’t quite measure up though with his only win being a win over 2600m in an open handicap at MV. I think he was unplaced at every other start and returned back to WA.

That should read 1988 Melb Cup campaign for Linc the Leopard, not 1989.

And in an even bigger coincidence LINC THE LEOPARD’s win over 2600m at MV was on Feehan Stakes (now Dato Chin Nam) Stakes day in 1988.

Exactly 30 years ago

Cheers for that info mate - very interesting.

Also, the dam of Trap For Fools is Old Money...her sire is Old Spice....who was a good stallion in WA.
