Really promising horse, hope he goes on with it and can win a big race some day.

Being talked up as a Stradbroke Hcp horse in the winter, so is he going for a break now? Or are there any suitable black type races coming up soon?

Apollo Stakes next month perhaps ?

The interview after the race trainer said he would be freshened but aimed at either Melbourne or Sydney.

Not so long ago Stawell (not your typical track design) in country Vic held a maiden race over 1300m, went on to win a Melbourne Cup
They all have to start somewhere....

Nice race for him, know a horse in the early seventies went , Doncaster, Adelaide Birthday Cup ( 10 furl.), Stradbroke in three successive starts, it can be done.

Would need to win a qualifying race. If he did, he'd be a strong lightweight chance, although he is not in any way, shape or form the right profile for a Doncaster winner.

Love this horse.

What is the profile of a Doncaster horse ?

I know what it used to be when the straight had a little rise and the weights were not so compressed.

Doncaster Profile

* 3yo colts & geldings, typically coming through a WFA test in the George Ryder Stakes
* 4yo who competes well in the George Ryder (typically beaten within 1-2L) and drops significantly in weight in the Doncaster
* Previous G1 mile handicap winner - Doncaster or Epsom

There are obviously outliers to this.

Love this horse.

Yep, would struggle to make the field on his current rating.

103 Qld rating (probably around 100 NSW) would have him borderline based on 2017, although that was a strong field. The Prelude would be the obvious target but it hasn't provided the Donnie winner for a long time, if ever.

The 1300m Canterbury Stakes is run a month before the Donnie and before handicaps are declared, so a win there would see him safely into the field.

I misread the rating.  Though he was 93 after the run.  Current rating could scrape into the field most years.

This is where the acid test comes.  Will be giving away plenty of weight rather than getting weight relief unless he takes on the G1/G2 level horses.

Doncaster ruled out.

Must have never been the real target. No way you put a line through it on that run.

Yeah, been carrying between 54-56kg recently.  Jump up to 58.5 today just enough to dull his brilliance.  Wouldn't have lost too many admirers today.  Also must credit the performance of the winner.

It was the target, but the hard run took it's toll and he will likely go home, freshen and look at the Stradbroke instead of the mile...an owner mate

From the stewards report

CARE TO THINK – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have made an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer M. Dunn will be advised that an endoscopic examination will be required prior to the gelding racing again.

Stallion making?

Stradbroke is the goal anyway. Better suited in handicap conditions.
