The Guardian that some here have a lot of trouble with is a shocker To post anything from them and a few others I copy paste onto a Word document, change to plain text, adjust format and copy that on here. A lot of mucking around but at least it copies pretty well

Donald Trump was thundering about a minority group, linking its members to murderers and what he predicted would be an epic crime wave in America. His opponents raged in response—some slamming him as a racist—but Trump dismissed them as blind, ignorant of the real world.
No, this is not a scene from a recent rally in which the Republican nominee for president stoked fears of violence from immigrants or Muslims. The year was 1993, and his target was Native Americans, particularly those running casinos who, Trump was telling a congressional hearing, were sucking up to criminals.
Trump, who at the time was a major casino operator, appeared before a panel on Indian gaming with a prepared statement that was level-headed and raised regulatory concerns in a mature way. But, in his opening words, Trump announced that his written speech was boring, so he went off-script, even questioning the heritage of some Native American casino operators, saying they “don't look like Indians” and launching into a tirade about “rampant” criminal activities on reservations. “If [Indian gaming] continues as a threat, it is my opinion that it will blow. It will blow sky high. It will be the biggest scandal ever or one of the biggest scandals since Al Capone,” Trump said. “That an Indian chief is going to tell [mobster] Joey Killer to please get off his reservation is almost unbelievable to me.” His words were, as is so often the case, incendiary. Lawmakers, latching onto his claim to know more than law enforcement about ongoing criminal activity at Indian casinos, challenged Trump to bring his information to the FBI. One attacked Trump’s argument as the most “irresponsible testimony” he had ever heard. Connecticut Governor Lowell Weicker Jr., whom Trump had praised in his testimony, responded by calling him a “dirtbag” and a bigot; Trump immediately changed his mind about the governor, proclaiming Weicker to be a “fat slob who couldn't get elected dog catcher in Connecticut.” For opponents of Trump’s presidential run, this contretemps about American Indians might seem like a distant but familiar echo of the racism charges that have dogged his campaign, including his repeated taunting of Senator Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas” because she claims native ancestry. But, in this case, there was more to it than that: Trump, through his offensive tantrum, was throwing away financial opportunities, yet another reminder that, for all his boasting of his acumen and flaunting of his wealth, the self-proclaimed billionaire has often been a lousy businessman. http://www.newsweek.com/2016/08/12/donald-trumps-business-failures-election-2016-486091.html Good read. I won't post it all. The more you find out about him the more appalling he looks. |

Their rants this morning were amazing, Bolta was criticising Turnbull, anoter obsession of his, for not being more effusive in his speech about Trump. Miranda was rambling about bet wetting liberals |

The media will be interesting to observe in the US after Trump settles in and after the traditional honeymoon period. He may regret declaring war on the mainstream media through the election process. As in the case of his deleted 2012 tweets calling for revolution New York Times had everything saved on their database. Nothing in the public can be covered up any more. All skeletons will resurface.

“You have an individual, Mr. Bannon, who’s basically creating the ideological aspects of where we’re going,” added Duke. “And ideology ultimately is the most important aspect of any government.”

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-11-14/donald-trump-plan-make-america-great-again-could-cost-economies/8022014
This could be the real problem with the Trump plan to make america great . He could virtually start a currency war with China and the value of Renminbi vs USD . The article says he can not win this battle and if he pours stimulus money into the US economy it will have the effect of driving up interest rates and the value of the USD . Any increase in the USD vs Renminbi will make the US manufacturing much more expensive and uncompetitive . Then the whole thing could start to look like a trade war if Trump then imposes tariffs and our economy will suffer significantly as a result . If the article is right then Trump can not deliver on the economy and US jobs without de-stablising the world economy and making the US economy a larger bubble than it already is .

PAULINE Hanson probably won’t do a Donald. President-elect Trump’s finger will stay off “the button”. And while Kate Ellis and Helen Andrews probably won’t get together for a beer, Virginia Trioli and Barnaby Joyce will.
That was the wash-up as Q&A focused on Mr Trump and the fallout of his election win, and Australia was asked to look within. Stand-in host Ms Trioli summed it up best after an hour of debate: “No one really knows, not even probably Donald Trump what a Donald Trump presidency is going to be like. We’re in brand new territory here.” And nowhere was that unfamiliar territory more obvious than when the panel was asked if Mr Trump’s success could mean Ms Hanson might one day be elected as Australia’s Prime Minister. Many in the audience laughed. And it was an awkward moment before answers of dismissal followed in responses akin to the attitude seen before the shock Brexit result in Britain, and Trump’s prospects according to political pundits just over a week ago. Shadow Minister for Vocational Education Kate Ellis said a firm “no”. Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said: “Look, I respect the half-million people who voted for One Nation, but it’s a lot harder running the show than talking about the show.” Ms Ellis added: “We should keep reminding ourselves that we are not America ... I don’t think we should all start getting the Pauline for PM merchandise ready. “But that’s not to say that we shouldn’t heed the warning and make sure we do look at the rising levels of inequality and we do make sure that we are bringing along the Australian public with us.” < id="google_ads__/5129dm.nent/entertainment//tv//currentaffairs_5" title="3rd party ad " name="google_ads__/5129dm.nent/entertainment//tv//currentaffairs_5" width="4" height="4" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" border="0" style="-sizing: border-; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border-width: 0px; border-style: initial; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: bottom;"> The program focused solely on Trump and the fallout of his election win, with the panel calling on three Americans to “please explain”. It led to some golden moments, a spectacular side-eye from Ms Ellis as Trump voting policy analyst Helen Andrews sang the President-elect’s praises, and some spectacular Trump put-downs from Security and Diplomacy professor from, RMIT University, Joseph Siracusa and US Studies Centre lecturer Jennifer Hunt. Q&A last night. No hiding on a public forum. |

WHY TRUMP WON
The panel agreed Trump’s win was largely due to a silent majority who felt increasingly unheard by their politicians. “These people from the midland ... are sick and tired of the eastern press telling them how to think and the rest of it,” Prof Siracusa said. Mr Joyce asked for a show of hands from the Trump supporters in the audience. Counting just nine he said: “So that’s basically a good reflection on what was part of the architecture of this. “There’s a sense of frustration among people. They feel they’re being belittled. They feel they’re not being listened to. They feel that every time they stick their hand up they’re somehow ridiculed because their beliefs are not of the standard fare. “However, when people feel belittled and when they feel isolated from the political system they can still vote and they do and they turn up. “Many of the vote was not so much for Trump, but a sense of, ‘I’m sick of being told how to think by others.’ Q&A |

I can understand what he's preaching but another PC brigade who just dont get it. These self righteous people need to convince the ordinary people of their beliefs. And then act and actually achieve something the ordinary person can understand. Right now it is not happening, for the majority.
Why was Hilary so unpopular?
Good luck...NOT THE NEW NORMAL Prof Siracusa was scathing in his summation of Mr Trump. “I think he’s an appalling human being. I don’t think he has any damn policies. He’s as dumb as Ronald Reagan and meaner than Richard Nixon,” he said. “But I accept he had a base out there. And they were conspiratorial alright, they thought professional wrestling was real and the moon landing was a fake. “You can’t say those things (Trump said) in public and expect us to forget it the day after. He’s an appalling human being. “Whether he sticks to policy, we don’t know. I’m appalled that the world thinks we think that is the new normal. It is not the new normal.” |

I watched that last night Joyce's theory says why the pollsters missed the level of Trump, not why they supported him. Frustrated about what specifically, not listened to about what? Sick of being told how to think....what does thet mean? That will all be unpicked for a long time. Non turnout by Sanders supporters for Clinton, boundary distribution...a lot of things played their part, there is no simple answer. Remember with no compulsory voting Trump won with only 25% of the potential voting population and 5 million votes less than than Romney despite population increase. He is going to finish up with nearly 2 million votes less than Clinton when votes are all counted. It was more likely about who didn't vote rather than who voted for whom.

Did Rural American Farmers Vote To Deport Their Workforce? At the ballot box, rural Americans were unfazed by what would seem a contradictory choice: voting to remove the low-wage workers that are, arguably, the linchpin of the rural economy. Farming is a high risk, low margin business endeavor, largely propped up by government subsidies and a marginalized workforce willing to toil 80 hours a week at appallingly low rates of pay—employment conditions which few American-born citizens would accept. |

I suppose a bigger workforce, legal or illegal, will mean more public servants to process the paperwork. A win/win.

Hows this for a pompous put down "“I think we underestimated the white working class in the US,” Siracusa said. “We didn’t realise people who wore red hats and went to work in the heartland would be so faithful about voting and they voted about 80%. That was the clincher on the night.”

As I have said many times you have to increase your population and workforce steadily to survive under the perpetual growth model. Trump is saying that he wants to unwind that and return to a protectionist isolated self sufficient economy that doesn't require constant population growth. Under his model you can put a stop to immigration, refugee intake or put up with illegals taking American jobs to do the work Americans dont want to(exactly the same as the Backpacker thread and 457 workers) He can shrink back to the 1950's annd get rid of foreigners all together. Whether he can deliver or not is very problematic with the current system facing collapse and hardship for a long time.
Turnbull et al are very concerned here that if he goes ahead the repercussions could be catastrophic for us and he has no clue how to respond other than to rabbit on with his jobs and growth mantra and hope we slide through and the contagion doesn't spread here

Good think we have a multi millionaire financial genius running the show here or we might be in trouble
