LOL. Scando weather report = sh*thouse one day worse the next. Live there? Try the food. It's  great if you like preserved substances, little fresh food, paprika on almost everything and lots of salt. Dead

I spent 5 years growing up on Nth European Nato bases. I've just regained feeling in my toes some 40 years later. What do you like about Northern Europe E&E?

Not Norwegian no. Have been there though and I am certainly interested in why you would have such a negative opinion[/B of the country. You must have travelled there right? What about the country rubbed you the wrong way? Or have you not even been there either?

The weather is warmer and sunnier than the poor b*stards who live there. God- BLEAK is tbe word. I was only there for a couple of months based in Oslo. Everyone told me everywhere/everyone in Norway was more fun. I doubt it.

Bret Stephens: The Wolff eats its own
‘Fire and Fury’ burned its careless, gossipy author more than it did his prey
But gossip isn’t journalism. And Mr. Wolff’s book is Exhibit A in how not to damage Mr. Trump’s presidency, much less his chances of re-election.

Yet to a normal person casually tuning in, the president appeared reasonably affable and businesslike. He listened. He cracked an appropriate joke. He said he was prepared to defer to the wishes of Congress. Where was the drooling man-child we had been led to expect from Mr. Wolff’s book and the nonstop coverage of it?

The net result is that “Fire and Fury” has so thoroughly succeeded in lowering public expectations for Mr. Trump that it makes it that much easier for him to exceed them. If the White House were smart it would tweet photos of Mr. Trump reading Dean Acheson’s “Present at the Creation” looking deeply engrossed. That should inspire a half-dozen Washington Times columns on how the press used to think Reagan and Eisenhower were boobs, too.

Beautiful country, culture, history, fantastic people. Food - yep not for everyone for sure but then either is roast lamb or a meat pie. Weather was fantastic when I was there. Enjoyed relaxing in the sun in Vigeland Park. Fantastic. Granted it was summer and I’m sure the winters are brutal. Nothing at all “gelatihole” about the country though.

Anyway my point was that lefties love to hold up scandinavian countries as models for us all. The truth is that they are small, cold, bleak little places where socialism thrives because the government can focus on giving them jobs and heat while pretending to be super "progressive" in their academia etc. Totally different scenario to US and Oz.

Interestingly, the Norwegians are very strong allies of the USA. This thread's trolls may joke about the recent submarine and F-35 sale, but joint military operations are hosted annually in the North Atlantic along with Norwegian participation in Afghanistan and NATO commitments.

One thing for sure. They appear to appreciate our role in their regional security as Russian military activities have increased in the North Atlantic and Artic circle. The reality is that modern democratic societies realize that any military connection to the USA is a positive deterrent message to the Russians and Chinese. Even OZ knows that. You are not hosting our Marines because you think we have more to gain from being in Darwin than you. There has always been talk about bases in the UK, Spain, Germany, etc. being closed but every time a SOFA expires the host country renews. Like our politics and our choice of leaders or not, the reality is that yanks are a good security blanket.

Domestically, Norway is socialized. But what major European country isn't.

As usual you entirely missed the point of the reference and went off on some bizarre tangent to find something to criticize.

watched the movie "unbroken".

those people were so brave. how many of us will go to our grave having lived through what those soldiers experienced.

that generation must be appalled at what is focused on today.

to see a tiny piece of history, watch this.

No Isaac, it is Trump's behavior that is a joke...surely?

On whose business it is, if he hadn't called everyone else a liar, hadn't denied having extra marital sex, threatening to sue women lying about him, later denying it was him on the Access Hollywood tape, when at the same time it is now being revealed was paying for multiple womens silence...?

It is true that any infidelity on Trump’s part is no ones business and I agree that it shouldn’t matter. It certainly wouldn’t matter to me what a candidate I’m considering voting for does in their sex life. However, the problem for Trump is that there are a large base of Christian voters to whom this kind of thing IS very important. Adultery is a very big deal to these people because the bible and Christian teaching is very clear that it is a sin. A load of garbage I know but it is what it is I’m afraid.

More evidence that PT's trolls don't understand what is going on the states. All this salacious news about Trump came out during the campaign. The evangelical political movement supported Trump then and continues to do so today. The load of garbage is located on this thread every time the trolls post.

The real sin is that such an enormous amount of ignorance is on display so predominantly on this thread. The username ExceedAndExcel is a misnomer, isn't it?

Back to the Scando happiness ratings I'll give the Danes the highest mark. Had a lot of fun there with some jolly souls. The rest ranged from downright rude (  Dutch ) to humourless and outright boring.

As for Norway it was fairly bleak most of the time unless you got lucky during the six weeks of annual sunshine. There was no Noma in those days so the food might have improved from dire. I'm not sure what those ratings are based on. Anyone whose lived there for a while might fail to comprehend as well.

Yep. All those evangelicals who screeched throughout the Bill Clinton years about how “character” mattered have now firmly decided that it does not.

Let me get this straight, a guy who thinks Australia is closer to North Korea than the USA is talking about ignorance? Unintended comedy at its finest.

You can’t even work out how to use a map so it’s doubtful you have any firmer grasp of what it going on than anyone else. Well you do have a firm grasp of something I’ll give you that.

Darwin is 5,700km from Pyongyang. Probably 5,500km from the most southern point of NK.
There are parts of the USA that are 4,700km from NK
