Can we expect strong condemnation of Trump over his proposed lifting of sanctions on Russia in exchange for some ''really great'' deals? She didn't hold back on Putin in the UN calling the shooting down of MH17 a war crime and calling for strongest action on this crime 38 Australians died in that crime. She and Turnbull cannot let down the families of those dead. Will Abbott still shirtfront Putin or get in line behind Trump and screw the victims?

Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump  14h

INTELLIGENCE INSIDERS NOW CLAIM THE TRUMP DOSSIER IS "A COMPLETE FRAUD!" @OANN

The intelligence insider is apparently none other than former campaign director Corey Lewindowski, who is now a conservative commentator with OAMM

So his two sources for having nothing to do with Putin are co-consprator Putin himself and his former campaign director. Doesn't get any better than thatLOL

I have no issue with Trump wanting defense partners paying their way. You can't be a "partner" without actually contributing your fair share.

It's funny, for so long people complained about USA, World Police. Now Trump wants partners to step up and start contributing more themselves, and it's a negative.

The US budget isn't in a state to continue giving out free rides any longer. I'm not going to sit here and complain about that country looking to do more things to promote it's self interest, because that's exactly what we do as well.

How far do we go to appease these nutters, engage in a blockade with Japan and Korea? And what will taking sides in this rubbish cost us in trade with our biggest partner? What will blockades and a cold war with China do to our mining industry?

Earlier this week, the former Exxon Mobil chief executive and nominal SOS Rex Tillerson said the US would send a "clear signal" to China that its access to artificial islands in the South China Sea would be blocked.

In a confirmation hearing before the US Senate and Foreign Relations Committee, Mr Tillerson also said the US's traditional allies in South-East Asia should also provide "back up" in the region.

China State media responded with

"If Trump's diplomatic team shapes future Sino-U.S. ties as it is doing now, the two sides had better prepare for a military clash."

He should get Whale to help him with his inauguration speech ... that would be interesting.

What price someone takes a pot shot at him on the day ... there seems to be enough unpatriotic, hateful left wing democracy deniers out there, and the majority of them were unhinged BEFORE he won the election ... and I'm not even counting the US Citizens, who were actually eligible to vote!Clown
In reference to every post in the Trump thread ... "There may have been a tiny bit of license taken there" ... Ok, Thanks for the "heads up" PT!

Oh, I thought you may have been talking about the country militarizing artificial islands in areas they have no claim to, which happen to look over routes which see $5Tn of trade pass through per year.

I am, and according to Mr Tillerson at congressional hearings last week, US partners in the area, including Australia obviously, will step up and be the ones to form a blockade. What will that do to our trade relationship with China?

Australia has pretty successfully negotiated our way between both China and the US, our first and third biggest partners, drawing the best from both relationships while staying pretty neutral

It sounds very much like the US under Trump wants us to choose sides.

Yeah, I know what they say today doesn't necessarily bear any resemblance to what they will do, that is how he got elected, but this is pretty serious. Inflaming China on One China policy and calling them out is not in our best interest.

I've been ostrich like since Trump was elected I'm afraid. Don't look and it will go away! It's all too horrible to contemplate. My gripe with Trump is not his politics ( such as they are ) but I see him as a deeply flawed character and if history teaches us anything it's give a deeply flawed character any sort of power and very bad things tend to happen.

PT is right. We will be asked to choose between China and the USA if Trump has his way. Heaven help us with our current government making the decision!!

Going Away Gift: Obama Just Expanded Surveillance Powers For Donald Trump

JANUARY 13, 2017

By Josie Wales

The Obama administration just handed even more power to the incoming Trump administration to invade the privacy of American citizens. The recent approval of new procedures for an existing executive order will allow the NSA to share the private data it collects with all 16 agencies of theUnited States intelligence community. The 23-page outline of the new procedures lifts previous limits placed on the way information was filtered before being disseminated to individual agencies.

“As he hands the White House to Trump, Obama just unchained NSA from basic limits on passing raw intercepts to others,” NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden tweeted Thursday.

Gone are the already flimsy privacy protections that required NSA analysts to review data before handing it over to other agencies like the CIA, DEA, DHS, or others. Whereas prior restrictions required analysts to shield the identities of innocent parties and other personal data before sharing only the information deemed pertinent, there are now no filters whatsoever.

All agencies will have the freedom to dig through “raw signals intelligence information” under the new procedures, which were signed by Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch. After evaluating the information, the agencies can apply rules “minimizing” violations of privacy. That’s correct — only after privacy has been violated can it be protected. That’s not exactly how it works, but it is now the law according to Section 2.3 of Executive Order 12333.

The document was originally signed on December 15, 2016, by the director of national intelligence, James R. Clapper Jr. According to Clapper’s general counsel, Robert S. Litt:

This is not expanding the substantive ability of law enforcement to get access to signals intelligence. It is simply widening the aperture for a larger number of analysts, who will be bound by the existing rules.

RFID Scan Blockers – Available for Free (Ad)

ACLU lawyer Pat Toomey disagrees, explaining:

Rather than dramatically expanding government access to so much personal data, we need much stronger rules to protect the privacy of Americans. Seventeen different government agencies shouldn’t be rooting through Americans’ emails with family members, friends and colleagues, all without ever obtaining a warrant.

The new procedures require agencies to submit written requests to the NSA describing the raw signals intelligence sought, how it will be used, how it will further its mission in a significant way, and why the information could not be obtained through other sources. While the purpose of Executive Order 12333 is to target foreign and counter-intelligence only, if an agency uncovers information that incriminates an American citizen, the agency is required to turn the evidence over to the Justice Department. Many of the requirements listed in the document for targeting American citizens have been redacted.

And if all else fails, any U.S. Intelligence Agency can legally obtain personal information on any citizen with no warrant under Section 702 of the FISA Amendments Act. However, with these new procedures in place, that may not be necessary anymore.

If Barack Obama is so concerned about a Trump presidency, why is he giving the future president such a terrifying amount of power?
