Cheers AA, really looking forward to the adventure!

Visiting a county like Myanmar that has only been opened up for tourists since 2014 will be an eye-opener!

"Get Away" on Channel 9 have just completed a 3 episode program on the country, hosted by Ray Martin.

Looking forward to getting there, and then revisiting my favourite haunt Koh Samui in Thailand.

Ok this is travel-related so will post. Probably should have posted a while back but better late than never I guess.

My tip for foreign currency is to obtain a Citibank Plus Bank Account.

https://www.citibank.com.au/aus/banking/everyday_banking/citibank_plus.htm

No account keeping fees but importantly from a travel point of view there are also no foreign exchange fees, no ATM fees and you will get an exchange rate very close to the market midpoint ie MUCH better than any Travelex or regular bank account will get you. The only fee you will pay will be whatever is charged by the ATM operator.

Just transfer your A$ into the account and away you go. I used this in US last year and it was great. Saved plenty in fees and also with the much better rate. Definitely a no brainer IMO.

Note that this is NOT a credit card. It's a regular bank account which comes with a visa debit card.

I made up my mind and have booked for South Africa in August.  Will be away about 25 days all up.
Travelling from Victoria Falls/Zimbabwe, thru Zambia, Botswana ( Chobe ),  Okavango Delta, Etosha, etc down thru Namibia to Cape Town.  I think we have about 6 half day game drives, and 2 river sunset cruises, and a helicopter flight over Vic Fallls, as well as heaps of other stuff, so should be interesting.

Hi AA, been on the road for 11 hours. Have witnessed some of the most beautiful country in the world! This country is something else and I'm a very experienced traveller! We have ended up in Kalaw in the highlands about 400km north of Yangon. I'm travelling with a party of great friends. We booked a driver to get us out into the wilderness of Myanmar. Wow, what a country, absolutely spectacular in every way. Food, people and sites are just magnificent!! Will add photos when I get time. We are 3.5 hours behind OZ time here. Wifi good but not brilliant! We are motorbike riding tmw around this place of heaven! Thursday we jump onto a train to take in Lake Inle which is also very beautiful. 3.5 hour trip on the most scenic route covering the a highland route very high up! Looking forward to this immensely! I have been blown out of the water by Myanmar, totally unspoilt and unknown to foreigners! It's a place I will come back to again and explore further. I rate it with a near perfect score.
