Race 4 - 4:20pm G1 DIAMOND JUBILEE STAKES - Permission was given for PROJECTION to go early to post. The Starter reported that BOUND FOR NOWHERE (USA) was reluctant to enter the stalls. Wesley A Ward was informed that the colt could not run until the day after passing a stalls test. An enquiry was held into the start of this race. The Starter and Adam Kirby, the rider of HARRY ANGEL (IRE) were interviewed. The Starter explained that HARRY ANGEL (IRE) was the penultimate horse to enter and had loaded with a stalls rug, but there had been a slight delay in loading the last horse, SIR DANCELOT (IRE), which was reluctant to enter. Consequently, HARRY ANGEL (IRE) had become fractious, kicking the rug off, and whilst he could see the rug moving from his position on the rostrum he was unable to see anything further. He added that Kirby had shouted at him to wait, which he had done, and when Kirby had indicated all was well he had effected the start. Kirby explained that HARRY ANGEL (IRE) had entered the stalls and had kicked out after the gates had been closed, causing him to lose an iron. He added that when he looked around, he could not see that the colt's leg was on the running board as it was covered by the stalls rug, and once he had regained his iron he was happy to indicate to the Starter that all was well for the race to start. Their explanations were noted. Inside the final furlong, BOUND FOR NOWHERE (USA), placed third, lugged quickly left-handed before being corrected by the rider, making contact with the winner, MERCHANT NAVY (AUS). Then, in the final few strides, MERCHANT NAVY (AUS) hung right-handed making contact with BOUND FOR NOWHERE (USA) and taking the colt off its intended line. After viewing a recording of both incidents, it was found that no riding offence was involved and it had not improved the placing of MERCHANT NAVY (USA). Following the race, Adam Kirby reported that HARRY ANGEL (IRE), unplaced, got upset in the stalls and was slowly away; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of HARRY ANGEL (IRE), revealed the colt to be lame on his left-hind leg.

Huh- I would have thought a horse with RW's form being gassed at the 600 deserved a question.

Let's face it, we shouldn't have high expectations in regards to stewards in the UK. The modern history of stewarding in England would place it last of all major jurisdictions.

Geez  I thought he looked horrible in whole the run.    Not like the horse we have seen here.    He stopped like a shot duck in the straight.    And he has never done that here in any of his races.  He always fights on even if he doesnt win.
He was just plodding.
animals before people.

What are you whinging about? From what l can see everyone here has just stated the horse ran poorly and we expected a better showing. I would think D Hayes would have the same opinion.

And for your information l had a good result on the $4.20 special on either of our horses winning. And it sounds like one or two others followed me in. Not a loser here. Not today anyway.

I am sure he will find another one to take o'seas Lex - maybe a Rising Romance type to take to HK if the restrictions are lifted.

I wouldn't worry about Haysie - he is doing fine.

Ben Hayes has publically said he was disappointed with his performance.

Australian sprinter Redkirk Warrior is set to press on to next month's Group 1 July Cup (1200m) despite his uncharacteristic flop in Saturday's Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Trainer David Hayes reported that the seven-year-old had come through his unplaced run behind Merchant Navy in satisfactory order and said connections had put the performance - the son of Notnowcato wilted late to finish more than 12 lengths adrift of the winner - down to the horse having an 'off day'.

And while he was quick to deflect any blame away from jockey Frankie Dettori, Hayes flagged the possibility of a rider change for the half-a-million pound feature at Newmarket on July 14.

Regan Bayliss was aboard Redkirk Warrior for his three Group 1 wins in the Newmarket Handicap (twice) and Black Caviar Lightning but connections opted to utilise the services of Dettori at Royal Ascot.

"We were really disappointed with the run," Hayes said.

"History tells us that he's let us down very few times but every time he's travelled he's never run to his best so there was always that nagging doubt in the back of our minds.

"Looking forward, Newmarket is where he's trained, he doesn't have to travel and he worked very well on the course proper there so we think that we're here, we might give him one more chance (in the July Cup).

"His best form is as good as the winner (Merchant Navy) so if we can get him back in form and change a couple of things in the next two or three weeks, he can turn things around because he's got the ability.

"Frankie rode the horse perfectly, there's no complaints about Frankie (but) we may have a change of rider (for the July Cup) because he didn't run for Frankie."

Merchant Navy remains a chance to chase a third Group 1 win in the July Cup before returning to Australia for stud duties, while Godolphin will also make a call on whether defending champion Harry Angel lines up in the coming weeks.

The improving 3 Y/O did us proud by a narrow margin .

RW drifted to $8 so the confidence was missing from the market.

Apart from the times when it didn't.

RW's profile suggests to me it's unlikely that he'll bounce back at Newmarket irrespective of who pilots him.
