These whip rules are absurd.    He won the race , what else do they want.

Reminds me of Bart's famous reply when the Inspector told him he had too many flies around the stable.

Bart asked , How many flies was he allowed.

This may burst like an enormous carbuncle one day, 3 strokes over the max allowed, big money involved, an owner just may say fcuk this I'm protesting, then the manewer will fly imo.

Owner of Brave Smash is pissed off.
His horse did not breach the rules and was beaten a nose by a horse who did.

Time for a rule change, whip breach = disqualification

It's all show - except in Qld where they use crystal balls to determine if any advantage was taken. Near impossible to tell if extra strikes help, or by how much.

However, if you have the rule police it every day, and make the penalty significant. Stewards are treating those who don't transgress with disdain with piddling penalties, esp in big races.

Does not matter whether they gain an advantage. They break the rule, there must be consequences that discourage them doing so.

It matters only when protests are considered djebel. On reflection I think moderate penalties are appropriate because the notion that jockeys should concentrate on distances and whip strikes is nonsense imo. Moral is don't be afraid to put a few down the rump if you believe it is needed, don't do it if it's not. And be as kind as you can to your mount.

I know you're Weir's biggest fan but the horse was beaten far more than a nose. Were the owners upset because their horses couldn't run a drum at Tuncurry?

Love Brave Smash - but he was also in the fast lanes. RK is just a freak down the straight.

All credit to Hayes team - they know what makes RK tick

Very hard to beat at Ascot if he arrives there in this type of form and not last springs.

Positive jockey change, especially considering the track.
I'm definitely going to be backing him.

I think it's a ridiculous and unnecessary jockey chamge.

The bloke has got the best out of him twice in pressure cooker environments and knows the horse.

There will be noughing dramatically different at Ascot.

At least Bayliss will not cop the blame when he fails to run down the leaders.

Time to get on. Confirmed for Diamond Jubilee, NOT Kings Stand.

Merchant Navy is one of mine and has been since day dot. But Redkirk beat him fair and square last time and meets him something like 5kg better for doing so. On the flip side Merchant Navy is not only settled in but in winning form.

I lean to Redkirk, especially given the far better value. $7 with the TAB.

TAB have a special up which looks very enticing...

Either Redkirk Warrior OR Merchant Navy to win the Diamond Jubilee @ $4.20.

I don't know the English form but what l do know is our sprinters are usually better than anything the UK has to offer. That theory has been good to me over the years.

$4.20 looks a bet to me. Two bites at the cherry.

I am no mathematician, One is $5.00, the other is $7.

What should a combined price be ?

There are 5 others that are serious dangers, Tasleet who was beaten by Merchant Navy but should improve for the run, The Tin Man, Harry Angel, Limato  and Wesley Wards Bound For Nowhere scare me.

Not an easy race by any stretch.
