He was inconvenienced by Paul Hannigan on Sands Of Mali who was determined to find the nearside fence away from the actual race.
May finished closer had he been amongst it all. |

Together again... Regan Bayliss booked for Redkirk Warrior in July Cup at Newmarket (Image: Racing Photos) Bayliss back on Redkirk WarriorLuke Sheehan@LukeDSheehan 9:15am Regan Bayliss will be reunited with the horse that has taken him to three Group 1s, Redkirk Warrior, in the July Cup at Newmarket next month. The Lindsay Park training trio of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig in conjunction with the horse's Hong Kong-based owners decided on booking superstar local and Royal Ascot maestro Frankie Dettori for Redkirk Warrior's run in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. However, it didn't go to plan as the two-time Newmarket Handicap winner was never likely inside the final 400m and weakened to finish 10th, 12.5 lengths off Merchant Navy on Saturday. "What we can put it down to is overseas travel," Dabernig told RSN 927's Racing Pulse on Wednesday "Arriving there, all the signs were he travelled well, he was eating, hydrated, we were happy with his work. "We did his final piece of work a week out from the race, then we tapered in [to the race]. "You could see from the 500m mark, we were clearly in trouble, and he didn't put his run up. Clearly the travel had an effect. "After the race, we did all the normal testing of bloods, scoping, and it all came back normal and clear. "We decided clearly there's a bit of water to go under the bridge, he'll continue on at Newmarket with the possibility of running in the July Cup on the 14th at Newmarket, which is 1200m down the straight. "And we can confirm that Regan Bayliss has been booked for the ride." He added: "There was no knock on Frankie Dettori. "He was probably a victim of the horse not performing on the day. "Regan's got an outstanding record on him, winning three Group 1s. "Hopefully if the horse has had a bit longer to acclimatise and settle back in with a jockey that's familiar with him, hopefully we can get him back to what we know he's capable of, because clearly on his best performances down here, looking through the form of Merchant Navy, he would've been right around them." < ="https://ps.brightcove.net/3461375237001/SJTK8W0sx_default/index.?Id=5748786188001" style="-sizing: border-; : ; border-style: none; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 630px; height: 354.375px; bottom: 0px; right: 0px;"> Another start in the European campaign, of course, means a tighter turnaround to the Melbourne spring, and Dabernig said the picture would be clearer for Redkirk Warrior's ability to come back for the carnival down under following his July Cup run. "That is the vague plan," Dabernig said of another tilt at the Darley Classic in the spring, a race in which he finished 11th last year. "There's been a bit of thought of possibly leaving him there [in the UK], and bringing him back through Werribee's quarantine centre when the Cup horses come out. "Then again, the horse will tell us the plan with him after the next run." Meanwhile, half the slots available for the $13million Everest have been filled, but Dabernig is not concerned about last year's runner-up in the rich race, Vega Magic, missing his place in 2018. "The horse is in terrific order," he said. "When you look back and analyse the run in the Goodwood, history tells you it's hard to win two in a row, and he had come off a bit of a setback going into it. "He had top weight, the track had deteriorated on the day, it was chopped out, soft rated but with a lot of wear and tear and he couldn't show his turn of foot. "But he's in great nick - he's had the benefit of a short spell. "We'll kick him off probably in the Bletchingly if the ground's alright on July 28, a weight-for-age Group 3 1200m at Caulfield, where he's undefeated. "If he performs well, we'll go to the Memsie with a view of going to The Everest." He added: "There's been interest in the horse all the way through. "This year, different to last year, a lot have locked in their slots. "The plan, after a race in the Bletchingly or around the Memsie time, something will get locked down. "But at this stage he's not confirmed, but I think it'll be a formality that he will." |

Apart from the times when it didn't. RW's profile suggests to me it's unlikely that he'll bounce back at Newmarket irrespective of who pilots him.

The improving 3 Y/O did us proud by a narrow margin .
RW drifted to $8 so the confidence was missing from the market. |

Hayes has publically said the horse got on the "wrong leg" "We were really disappointed with the run," Hayes said. "History tells us that he's let us down very few times but every time he's travelled he's never run to his best so there was always that nagging doubt in the back of our minds. "Looking forward, Newmarket is where he's trained, he doesn't have to travel and he worked very well on the course proper there so we think that we're here, we might give him one more chance (in the July Cup). "His best form is as good as the winner (Merchant Navy) so if we can get him back in form and change a couple of things in the next two or three weeks, he can turn things around because he's got the ability. "Frankie rode the horse perfectly, there's no complaints about Frankie (but) we may have a change of rider (for the July Cup) because he didn't run for Frankie." |

Australian sprinter Redkirk Warrior is set to press on to next month's Group 1 July Cup (1200m) despite his uncharacteristic flop in Saturday's Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Trainer David Hayes reported that the seven-year-old had come through his unplaced run behind Merchant Navy in satisfactory order and said connections had put the performance - the son of Notnowcato wilted late to finish more than 12 lengths adrift of the winner - down to the horse having an 'off day'. And while he was quick to deflect any blame away from jockey Frankie Dettori, Hayes flagged the possibility of a rider change for the half-a-million pound feature at Newmarket on July 14. Regan Bayliss was aboard Redkirk Warrior for his three Group 1 wins in the Newmarket Handicap (twice) and Black Caviar Lightning but connections opted to utilise the services of Dettori at Royal Ascot. "We were really disappointed with the run," Hayes said. "Frankie rode the horse perfectly, there's no complaints about Frankie (but) we may have a change of rider (for the July Cup) because he didn't run for Frankie." Merchant Navy remains a chance to chase a third Group 1 win in the July Cup before returning to Australia for stud duties, while Godolphin will also make a call on whether defending champion Harry Angel lines up in the coming weeks. |

I am sure he will find another one to take o'seas Lex - maybe a Rising Romance type to take to HK if the restrictions are lifted. I wouldn't worry about Haysie - he is doing fine. |

What are you whinging about? From what l can see everyone here has just stated the horse ran poorly and we expected a better showing. I would think D Hayes would have the same opinion. And for your information l had a good result on the $4.20 special on either of our horses winning. And it sounds like one or two others followed me in. Not a loser here. Not today anyway. |
