If you’re a racehorse, it’s definitely an advantage to get your name in the spotlight.

After a long and well-earned spell at the Lindsay Park farm in Euroa, he went to Lisa Mc Master for a bit of re-education to find out if he might enjoy a new career as a star in the show ring. Lisa and Sammi worked their usual magic with him and fell in love with him as everyone does but after a few show ring outings, everyone could see that his prospects were a bit limited due to his age and the physical demands of his long career as a racehorse. It was therefore decided that the best thing for So Si was full retirement. But that is not to be the end of his time in the spotlight because in a quite wonderful turn of events, Living Legends has offered him a home for life. “So Si is just the sweetest and most intelligent boy. He will just love going places and being adored by his many fans. It has been an honour to work with him and we look forward to visiting him at Living Legends”, said Lisa. So Si is due to join Living Legends later this year to give his many fans the chance to meet and adore him in person. He will be retired to the paddock but will enjoy outings as an ambassador under the Living Legends banner. |

He's showed how tough the So You Thinks could be and yes like his sire a picture card thoroughbred.

If I trained him and I had my own property, I could not wait to wake up every morning and put a saddle on him to ride around the property and watch the horses go through their trackwork.
Surely he is such a stunning horse you do not just put him in a paddock and not let him keep his moind active, enjoying life.

Always great to see them looked after post-racing, regardless of their success. But this boy deserves it.
I imagine a looong queue of people who’d love to have him. He’d be an extraordinary show horse or paddock ornament

From the statement from Lindsay Park, After his most recent run they had him scanned and found some mild effusion in his fetlock joints, whilst still considered sound they didn't want to take any risks with him.
He will be spelled at Lindsay Park Euroa for the next 4 months before deciding what his future is going to be early in 2024.

After 95 starts that reaped $2.3 million in prizemoney, fan favourite So Si Bon has been retired. Lindsay Park made the announcement on Thursday, saying the 10-year-old who touched many people's lives, especially the owners and stable team, will be dearly missed. Wishing him a happy retirement after an incredible career, co-trainer Ben Hayes was full of praise for the gelding and the impact he's had at Lindsay Park. "He has been an incredibly special horse to us all," he said. "Remarkably he has been the soundest horse to ever be trained here at Lindsay Park Euroa, which is highlighted through his durability and consistency over the years. "To have run at Stakes level 61 times throughout his 95-start career is simply amazing and very rare. "He will be missed around the stable by every single one of our staff members. "He has been a stalwart and a pin-up of our operation, season after season, and undoubtably one of our favourites." he striking son of So You Think recorded nine wins and 23 placings during his noteworthy career. He was a fan favourite not only because of his deeds on the track and his eye-catching looks but also for his personality. The reformed bad boy was notorious in his early career for biting his fellow horses and being tagged as a 'non-winner'. Many fans have already taken to social media to express their admiration for him following the news of his retirement. Lindsay Park has confirmed that while So Si Bon is retiring from racing, he will remain at the Euroa property for the time being, heading to the paddock for a well-deserved spell. |

The Wayne Wilson on Stradbroke Day and beyond that the Tattersalls Mile or even the Glasshouse at Caloundra could be options for the old boy, but more likely from here they'll take him to the Winter Championships Final on July 1 with a run in between.

You are right LH he has always reminded me of one of my favs Tiny's Finito.
A large number of starts, group capable, and mostly performed well to grab a cheque most runs. |

Brave again yesterday, racing on the speed and boxing on for 2nd placing
He’s a throwback to those durable warhorses that were around back in the 1980’s & 90’s. Not too many these days that can stand up to 90+ race starts and still be competitive in Saturday class races.

He would of been banned soon had they not gelded him. There is no way he was not ever going to not savage another horse.

Well reckon he might have been ok Sis. By So You Think, with his 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th dams all stakes-winners.
Seem to remember there was some chat back in the day about whether he or then trainer Robbie Laing should have been gelded.

What are peoples opinions on what he would have been like at stud? Remember the big quandary, put him to stud or geld him? Turned out very talented, sound and so well bred. Who knows what could have been? Had some good attributes to pass on

There were classier, more talented horses running around Australia today.
But give me SSB over any of them. Jagging another black type placing today as 9yo at his 87th start

The grand nine-year-old So Si Bon continued his thoroughly mixed relationship with punters after he produced a stunning late effort to win his first race for about 20 months at Sandown on Saturday. Three-times banned for biting or attempting to bite both his equine and human rivals as a young horse, So Si Bon this time sunk his teeth into punters after he kicked back to beat the sizzling hot $1.40 favourite Detonator Jack in the BM100 (1700m). Successful jockey Jamie Kah later said she employed different tactics on the winner of more than $2 million in prizemoney in what was her first ride on So Si Bon for more than three and a half years. ‘’I went to pull the stick (whip) on him and I thought twice about it,’’ Victoria’s leading rider explained. ‘’I thought, ‘he’s giving me his all’. I’ve seen him go around a million times before and I just think he just doesn’t love the whip. ‘’He’s an honest, genuine horse. Sometimes you can make the mistake of hitting them when they are giving their all and they half get a bit angry with it.’’ The tactics certainly seemed to bring the best out of the veteran of 86 race starts and nine wins. ‘’Instructions were just to get him to settle today, as he went way too hard last start,’’ Kah said. ‘’At about the 800, I thought we were in a perfect spot and he was travelling enormous. ‘’I was just hoping he would dig in deep like we know he can. And he did. ‘’He’s just a ripper of an old horse. He’s run some massive races in his lifetime and it’s just nice to find some form again. ‘’It’s pretty special to win on a horse like this.’’ |
