Craig Williams has a reputation as one of the most professional jockeys in Australia, a noted track-walker and form expert who thoroughly prepares for all race meetings.
After starting his career as an apprentice for his father Alan in the early 1990s, Williams spent time riding in the UK, Dubai and Hong Kong before returning to Australia in 2005 and starting a successful partnership with Hall Of Fame trainer David Hayes.
A world-renowned rider Williams has won Group I races in Hong Kong, France, Dubai, the UK and Japan where he is a regular international visitor for their major races.Williams won the 2016/17 Melbourne jockeys’ premiership, keeping young riding rival Beau Mertens at bay in the closing stages of the season.
Craig Williams's first major winner was Show No Emotion in 1997 and his first Group I winner was Grand Echezeaux in the 2000 Australasian Oaks.

Williams has enjoyed recent Group I wins including on Catchy in the 2017 Blue Diamond Stakes and on Vega Magic in the 2017 Darley Goodwood and Memsie Stakes.

Last season Craig Williams rode 118 winners the most successful stable partnership in the past year

There you go, he’s a bit too professional and clean cut for the rest of the riders at a time when racing is enamoured with arguably “loveable” rogues and larrikins.

So true.

He probably doesn't take the brown paper bag from Hunter, Smerdon and co so they can't lock down a result. Makes him a prick.

Nail on the head imo. Poor punters and owners get the raw deal with him often stuck wide or unable to get out, but he’s far too accomplished a rider to always be there of his own volition, while some very moderate jocks seem to have no problems getting in or out. Not part of the matey wolfpack and reserves brown paper bags for sandwiches.

That would be spot on. Doesn’t have many ‘friends’ that are jockeys

Don’t think he could give a Flying fox regarding fellow jockeys as mates. He has the patronage of Hayes, Weir, McEvoy and Cummngs whilst Oliver whom has more riding talent in his big left toe can barely scratch together 3 rides on a Saturday.

Maybe having the impression as a cleanskin whom acts professionally and works his nuts off is what trainers and owners want! If you’re not riding for Hayes or Weir in Vic you’re playing second fiddle anyway hence Lane and Williams on top with daylight 3rd
In his interviews he comes across as arrogant and a few racing people I’ve met, all say the same thing about him. He’s very competitive and does everything he can to help himself, but doesn’t give two hoots when it comes to helping others . Just what I’ve heard.
Total opposite to D Oliver , who would give you the clothes off his back
The only shirt that Oliver would give you is the one he ripped off the bookmakers back with his $10,000.00 riding fee, even then he probably would have kept the shirt if it had fit him.LOL

Hardly definitive but his raw figs show a surprisingly mediocre G1 win record of 8%.

Wouldn't have a clue whether he's straight or crooked. He could be Keyser Soze for all I know, or care for that matter.

What I am confident of, is that the media side of him is as fake as it gets. That silver tongue is an acquired skill, along with his ability to find the winning side of a protest. He openly praises his manager for getting him the right instruction in this area.

If he is disliked in the jockey room, it would be his ability to swear black and blue that he's right, when he know's full well that he's wrong.

He's finally lost me. Charlevoix was incompetence personified but the same picture keeps being painted on a regular basis.

Count me amongst the few? who would be happy to see him go overseas permanently, or retire. Far too many dud rides for a top jockey.

I was just reading on racenet that after Williams came back on Smart Coupe in the kevin hayes, one of the owners streamed his report, and now the vic jockeys association are asking whether that is legal, as some jockeys do not want streaming to occur.

I do not see any difference to the streaming from talking to reporter near the scales.

The race clubs want more promotion, then here it is.
Remember, it might take intelligence to be smart , but it takes experience to be wise

Surprising we put so much importance on riders,   when the stats ( with a few exceptions ) have many of them showing similar percentages .   Like Williams is on about 13/14% but loads of others on similar.
I put more merit on sectionals, likely improvement, recent form ,
Form patterns etc.
Re times ( which are only 1 of many variables ) never forget ,   NO jockey has ever won on the slowest horse in any race.

The stream was recorded by the syndicator and it was no secret that it would be recorded.

Perhaps the rider is upset that the connections weren't buying his copy/paste rhetoric.

Maybe he's not doing the same level of tactical work that he used to... maybe he's doing too much... either way, he's got one plan and one plan only. If it doesn't work out it's "get cover, make one run".

He wins on good horses when the cards fall his way, but lacks the courage to stay in the fight and extricate himself from the sh1t, should he find himself in it.

He's not terrible. Just average.

According to reports CW had no problems with the streaming RH.

Understand jockeys' concerns but in the end their views on the dangers of streaming/post-race comments on their mounts should be bottom of the consideration list imo. Wouldn't be a good look for racing if a trainer bawling out a jockey or a trainer-jockey slanging match was streamed across the internet.

Think your assessment of CW is pretty spot on. Overall better than average but nowhere near the top echelon.

Yet another jockey riding horses owned by the wife.

Those ownership rules are meaningless.
