Any trainer in Sydney with a half decent 1400m horse should throw in a late entry.  So many 2000m+ horses resuming here.

Thought so to Lordy, not a bad time to have a shot at the stumps with the mare too, I wasn't convinced with her 2nd trial

Not much depth here. Box up Winx, Lucia and Dibayani for a collect.

Dibayani each way might be the play. Great first up run and will be on pace.

He's been placed a few times early in his career and ran fourth first-up in the autumn over a mile.

Dibayani would want to show more ticker than he has to date to be winning anything worthwhile.

Dibayani was only 1.5L off Winx in the Chipping Norton. Has a run under his belt and the mare is first up after (albeit minor) surgery. Thought she wanted to lay in a touch in her trial too. Couldn't tip against her of course, but he might make a race of it.

Upgraded for 2018 to G1 and renamed to Winx Stakes.

... and most probably Winx will run and win her own race!

Is anything being downgraded from G1 or can they keep on adding G1s to the list?

I seem to remember Black Caviar winning the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes not so long ago.

Always amuses me Tulloch, Phar Lap have a G2 race each.  Kingston only got a G3 in Sydney but a G1 was named after he travelled and won it in Perth.

Even Bart doesn't have Group 1 race named after him.
Australian racing is only good up to 1400m in terms of world standards when it comes to depth/quality in numbers

Didn't they erect a statue of Bart at one of the racecourse entrances.?

No doubt in memory of all the "dead uns" he sent to the starting gates.

Probably the same reason many other contributers to the sport have had? The second rate race Victoria runs in his name is a slap in the face, but not unexpected given the paucity of racing leadership in that state.

Don't believe in naming races after horses (or people) until they retire myself but maybe RNSW was getting in early before the MVRC (yes that's sarcasm).

Winx is a champion and actually deserves better than a Warwick Stakes but it does show how the scant regard racing officials have for the past that other champs like Tulloch, Phar Lap etc have "junk" races named after them.

Races should be named after horses or trainers after they are dead imo

The existing Bart Cummings is suitable race to be named after him. No way in hell should that race be a group 1 though.
I don’t believe Bart was all great a trainer, other than winning Melbourne Cups in the days when they were easy to win, he didn’t really do much else as a trainer. He wasn’t a nice man to his staff either, very rude. Always shouted and looked down on people.

I think The Bart Cummings is a perfectly suitable race for the man.  It is rapidly evolving into a principal lead up race to the Melbourne Cup and that is very apt.  Given that it has found 2 Sydney Cup winners, a Melbourne and an Adelaide Cup winner in its past 7 editions I reckon the race is proving worthy of its name.

Yes it's a memorable race no doubt, a potential classic much like the TJSmith.

I'm guessing we won't be seeing the 'Warwick' stakes return to Warwick Farm then...

It's a shame, there were three good races that Warwick Farm had, and it seems unlikely any will be returning at this stage... would have thought there were enough at Rosehill and Randwick to allow Warwick Farm 3..

Anyway, rant over... Ouch

If Racing Nsw have there way, Warwick farm will be sold to pay off the mortgage at Randwick
