Hartnell's Turnbull win wasn't an outlier, his two previous wins in Sydney were very good, there wasn't much between all three of his wins.

Hartnells Turnbull win wasn't an outliner yeah ??? u think the field of six he beat in the Chelmsford beating stayers Grand Marshall n Who Shot the Barman over 1600m rates as good ??? or facing off against the same 6 over 2000m in the Hill  ??? Lets face it have a look at the Turnbull field also ....it was a very thin race  besides Jameka ......... Which is my point !!!! Wacko

It rates very close.

How well is Winx going to rate for beating Who Shot Thebarman by less?

Hartnell hit a glorious patch of form for a few starts in the Spring. Pity they were in the wrong races. He hit a similar patch of form for a brief time back in 2015. Around that, not much. He might be one of those sorts of horses. His performance on the weekend doesn't bode well for this campaign.

No, Winx rates well above Hartnell on her Cox Plate win and I didn't back Hartnell yesterday because of the negative tactics they'd put out.

However, Winx 2nd and 3rd up last prep didn't produce anything special in comparison with Hartnell.

I don't care if you don't like that.

It's inconsequential isn't it? Why would anyone care how she rated? She has proven her level and she has proven she does what she needs to unless asked for more.

Do people forget that Hartnell won a BMW with ease in a run that for me rates within 1L of his Turnbull win? Before that Turnbull win last year that BMW run was the outlier for me.

And even the Arc is being discussed.

Hopefully they give it a shot.

Better chance in the Arc than against Winx.

She's clearly much better at 2400 than 2000.

Sires winner at 2, Vase and Oaks double as a Spring 3 yr old, placed in the Guineas and Derby against the males in the Autumn, comes back to win a Caulfield Cup as a Spring 4 yr old and now ticks the Group 1 WFA box winning the BMW.

She is overshadowed of course by Winx but what she's done in her own right is remarkable. Great training effort to keep coming up campaign after campaign.

I stayed out of the race on the weekend but gee I was glad to see her win.

An international campaign and the remainder of the racing season are in limbo for Jameka, who is being treated for pleuropneumonia.

The mare was diagnosed with travel sickness after commuting from Sydney to Melbourne by road on Sunday, within 36 hours of thrashing her rivals in The BMW(2400m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

The condition occurs when bacteria residing in the nasal passages drifts down into the lungs of a horse that is confined and maintains a position whereby the head is elevated.

What develops is pneumonia and then the infection worsens when it spreads to and behind the lung wall. The build-up of fluid makes breathing difficult.

Aggressive treatment is required, involving the draining of the bacteria-laden fluid from the lungs. Fluids are administered intravenously to keep the horse hydrated while anti-inflammatories as well as a prolonged course of antibiotics are needed to alleviate pain and fight infection.

Complications from pleuropneumonia include laminitis, lung collapse and death.

Jameka is being treated at trainer Ciaron Maher’s Caulfield premises and Maher said this morning she is “stable”.

“It’s quite serious but they got it early and they have treated it quite aggressively,” Maher told RSN.

Winner of the 2015 Crown Oaks (2500m), the 2016 Caulfield Cup (2400m) and The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill last weekend — all Group I races — Jameka is the nation’s pre-eminent performer at the imperial trip of a mile and a half.

It was with that in mind that connections had set the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly in France on the first weekend in October as a long-range goal.

Jameka was to use Hong Kong’s QE II Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin on April 30 as a launching pad to a European campaign.

A vast number of races throughout England, Ireland, France and Germany could have been moulded into an Arc campaign.

Depending on how she recovers, we may not see Jameka race again before next season.

Very sad, the scourge of long distance travel for horses in a confined upright position, we have had a number of our horses fall victim to this condition some we don't hear about and some well known to us, I travelled a number of times on planes with a certain horse and it's always in the back of your mind at the end of the trip if things are ok , I hope this lovely mare makes a speedy and complete recovery.

Terrible news! Especially after last week's beautiful win.
She's my personal favourite mare. I hope her strength, class and courage get her through this.
All the best to Jameka and her connections.

Does the race have any chance of gaining G1 status if it's a buy in?

Is this in the wrong thread James? Everest?
